That is actually a nice Deluxe Edition. I read all of Death in the Family in one sitting at my local B&N bookstore and was riveted by the story and the art. It is a DARK story. Fascinating that the fans had a hand in it as well. I love that it led to the best Robin (aka Tim Drake) taking up the mantle. I'm still mad at DC for cancelling the Chuck Dixon Robin trades; I have the first two and would've loved to have collected all of that run across those thick trades.
This collected story arc has a special place in my childhood. I recall it was around 2000-2001, I bought the trade paperback and was blown away with the the brutal ending. This was my first trade paperback for Batman and I'm glad it's one of my first stories along with Knightfall in the 90s
Stoked for this one. Little disappointed they didn't include Year Three but maybe we'll get a deluxe of that and Under the Hood somewhere down the road. Thanks, Omar!
Dude, year 3 should of definitely been included! The last issue of year 3 was the 1st since Issue I ever bought. Year 3 is a good bridge between these stories.
Thanks for adding size comparison to your recent videos! It’s super helpful for those who only want to buy OHC. Finding size info for older collected editions an be a trouble sometimes, so please continue doing it!
Oh yes, the love of comics that was born in Elementary school. I was in grade six in 88 and remember this event. I wasn't reading Batman back then, but in grade four when the Baroness shot Storm Shadow in RAH it was the talk of the hallways at my school. I'm just discovering this era of Batman now and I absolutely love Jim Aparo's work on Batman. His KJBeast issues were fantastic! I'm definitely picking this up and Superman the Last Son. Hey Omar, any word on a Gi Joe RAH omnibus from the Marvel years?
This was two great.stories . First the death of Robin - Jason Todd. I admit I didn't call the 900 number . Then, the introduction of Tim Drake and how he became Robin. Brilliant having them both in one hardcover volume. I hope to pick it up soon.
I love Jason Todd, one of the most intereting DC characters ever created, who made a massive impact on the Batman mythology and still does today even as Red Hood. Just bought this sad story, can't wait to get my hands on it.
I already have it in TBP and even if I didn't, I'd still go for the affordable edition (the reality of being a poor student). Plus, it fits in nicely with my other comics, as most of them are also trades. But Jason is one of my favorite characters, so I might upgrade it in the future.
I remember this time as well. I think the reason everyone was rejecting this Robin was because no one wanted a Robin! It was the time post Killing Joke and Dark Knight Returns and everyone just wanted a dark Batman.
Oh man, you called in ! At this point Don Newton was off the book and I stopped reading Batman. My brother and I could not wait for the next Don Newton drawn Batman comic back then because he was always doing something new and cool with him. Especially un the use of his cape. I did love the story of Killer Crock, who was more like The Ice Man, a cold hearted, methodical, going insane, balls up not afraid of Batman ot anyone ruthless killer. Nothing like how he is portrayed today. Anyway, that's when Jason Todd came in the picture as well. I'm not a fan of Jason Todd, Dock Grayson is my guy, but was suprised to gear he got killed/voted off. Oh, I later realised I was an Aparo fan as well. Especially his work in the '70s with The Spectre and Aquaman.
Had no idea the (terrible) Death in the Family animated movie was interactive. That’s pretty neat! Now we need more of this era of Batman in deluxe format. Or how about some Nightwing, please?! Another great video, Omar. :) Algorithm gang!
A little bit expensive for the content. But if this is the way to get an under the red hood deluxe or an onmnibus (there is enough Judd Winick stuff for that) I´m gonna buy it.
I'm trying to read more Batman this year, and I've never read any of the issues collected in this book (if you can believe it!). I'll have to pick this one up!
Yes sir I'm getting this one hell yea😁. When I heard of this coming out I got rid of my trade my library hard cover and the European released hard cover. And yes I called for the kill 😁.
What do you mean "A Lonely Place of Dying" is on the New Teen Titans Omnibus...? Has volume 6 been resolicited with new content? Haven't seen anything about that, but it would make a lot of sense. The choice of going with the Spotlight series for vol. 6 was a weird one -- specially because the very first issue after volume 5 is the return of Perez, the classic Who Is Donna Troy storyline and it would include -- as you mentioned -- another classic, A Lonely Place of Dying. That would be SO perfect, but I haven't seen any official announcement yet.
I also called the 900 number without permission, oops! Parental units not pleased. 😳 I have the DC Classics Library Edition of these Stories as well as the two TPBs, so I probably will pass on this one.
@@eduardoruiz7600 And now, Thunderbolts disappeared as well, so it looks like I'll need to try CGN or Ebay for the DM cover. Very frustrating. I would really like to know what the heck is going on over at In Stock Trades.

Caped Crusader vol. 1 is Batman 417-425 & 430-431, vol. 2 is Batman 432-439 & 443-444. Death in the Family is Batman 426-429 and A Lonely Place of Dying (included in this collection) is Batman 440-442 (plus New Teen Titans 60-61). So these stories take place in the middle of those collections.

It's too early in the comments to determine how controversial your opinion is and it's been a while since I've read it, but I'll give my two cents. The main issue I had with this story was the reliance on plot convenience. (SPOILERS) The first thing is that Jason ran away and there was no major communication between the main people in this storyline, but they all end up in the same foreign country at the same time(I think Batman just randomly saw Jason on the streets). Second, the Joker had no good reason to seek out Jason's mom in particular for his scheme. First he was selling nuclear arms ,then he decides he needs some quick cash and she's the one who can get it? He didn't even seem to know she was Jason's mom, they were just acquaintances in Gotham. Then they drop the Ayatollah in there because Middle East and nuclear arms. Then Iran makes Joker, whom they've just met, ambassador because he's surely the best man for the job lol. They should have spent more time developing the story. But I can't really hate on it because without it there would be no Under the Red Hood.
@@raggamuffin9347 I don’t think it’s plot convenience that irks me about the story. I mean, in general I think “plot holes” and those sorts of criticisms can be fun, but are largely superficial to a story as a whole.
