    I don't like how in S6 Daniel didn't stop teaching in MD the sole reason Daniel opened miyagi-do was to save kids from Cobra kai. Now if Cobra kai was longer threat (as from his pov, they all are defeated until S6E5 ending) why Daniel is still running his dojo. The better thing would be Instead Daniel quits teaching at the start of season 6 because CK is dealt with. Johnny objects - says they're on the verge of going international and the students need all the help they can get. It makes no sense to stop when they're on the verge of achieving something great. But Daniel quits anyway because he doesn't believe in karate for trophies.
    Johnny tries to emulate parts of Daniel's training but can't do as well and finds himself falling into his old patterns. The students start feeling like Daniel needs to come back to balance Johnny out. And Daniel finds himself missing teaching as well - he can't go back to his "normal" life that easily.
    Eventually Daniel does come back, but some issues remain. Johnny feels inferior for not being able to handle the dojo on his own and he doesn't trust Daniel not to change his mind and quit again. And Daniel feels uncertain about his identity as a Sensei now that he's no longer simply following Mr. Miyagi's lessons.
    That, IMO, could be a better conflict to be explored between them - one that's less about their egos and more about them trying to find their respective paths.

      LaRusso needs to be confronted with the fact that he isn’t always right, that he has made situations worse and give Lawrence credit. He is actually a good person that has always tried to do the right thing! Even in the original movie, Johnny never started a fight with Daniel, and after Johnny made his point and put Daniel on the ground he never continued to attack him, it was always Bobby, Dutch and Tommy that wanted to fight and torture LaRusso.

    • @Goldenbane
      @Goldenbane 2 месяца назад +1

      @@philipscheidler153 When Daniel picked up Allie's boombox, Johnny shoved him to the ground for no reason. To me, that's starting a fight. When Daniel got up and took a fighting pose, he was just reacting to the situation...doing what any young person who's angry would do. Johnny then beat the snot out of him really badly. He then stood over Daniel taunting him "What about you, hero, you have enough yet?" When you're young, have pride, and are a hothead like Daniel, you're going to feel like you have to do something about being emasculated like that, so Daniel sucker punched Johnny. Daniel then tried to end the fight by offering a handshake...he got his "revenge" and now wanted out of the situation, but Johnny beat him down even worse and left him lying there. I really wish people would quit watching that dumb parody video of "Daniel is the real Bully" and actually watch the movie. Saint Johnny the pure and good doesn't exist. He has been a complete jerk and idiot several times and Johnny fans need to accept that. And I hate to say it, but Daniel is more often right than he is wrong, I just feel he goes about things the wrong way because he's trying too hard to be Mr. Miyagi. Not everyone wants to do chores. Not everyone is going to understand or even like the "big reveal" of the chores.

      Quite frankly, I felt the last two seasons were getting terribly repetitive. I'm glad they took the show in a new direction. The Critical Drinker is wrong. It's not about farce versus serious drama. It's about fantasy versus serious drama.
      For example, I remember there was a huge debate online about the final episode of season three. People were saying that (in real life) almost all of the characters would have gone to jail. The Cobra Kai students brutally assaulted the Myagi-Do students in Daniel's own house. They even threw Bert through a window. They should have been arrested. Johnny and Daniel attacked Kreese in his own dojo. There was a strong indication that they were about to kill Kreese. The only reason they didn't is because Miguel and Sam showed up at the last moment. But if they had killed Kreese in his own dojo, both Daniel and Johnny would have gone to jail _for life._ It didn't make any sense. Nevertheless, I loved the finale of season 3. It was very dramatic and entertaining, despite the unrealistic nature of the events.
      The next two seasons were the weakest in my opinion. Kenny's character was just a repeat of the whole bullying theme. The showdown in the Cobra Kai dojo at the end of season five (with all the students from both sides) was just an inferior version of the season three finale. Also, the whole thing about trying to expose how Terry Silver cheated in the tournament was kind of lame. All of Silver's student just abandon him after seeing the video.
      The acting in season six is the best it has ever been. The comedy with Johnny was funny again -- unlike season four and five where it was just getting stupidly repetitive. But the truly remarkable thing is that the writers somehow managed to create a lot of suspense about the new tournament. The Korean fighters are truly menacing; especially the character of Kwon. The fifth episode was *excellent* -- easily one of the best episodes of the entire show and one of the best cliffhangers.
      I don't know what people are complaining about. Just sit back and enjoy the ride and don't overthink everything.

    I still really enjoyed part 1 and felt more satisfied after multiple rewatches. The first watch was what felt the worst. I don’t think the actual quality was worse compared to the first 5 of a few other seasons, but the flaws are still there. The writers didn’t learn from their mistakes. They let their same flaws repeat, which is ironic because a core theme of the show is learning from the past and not letting history repeat itself. Another thing is the half hour format just doesn’t work anymore. Too many characters.

  • @MGillDesign

    i feel like the reason it feels low stakes, (in first 5 episodes),
    is because Kreese is a non-factor, Silver is in jail...
    So the cast has a false sense of security... and i think episodes 1-5
    are the "calm before the storm.."
    And the split of 5 episodes, plus another 5, plus another 5
    probably doesn't help.
    That said, I accept the show for what it is... and glad they (Daniel and others) can exhale
    for the first 5 episodes without high stakes... and not constant drama/danger...

    I was right all along. Just by seeing the final trailer, I knew we were taking a ticket for the Titanic. They went into rewriting and reshoot. I wonder if the big 3 will ever tell us what was the original idea for episode 1 of season 6. Managing expectation is the key element in the success of any project of this magnitude. They were able to entertain us for 5 seasons in a row while facing major production challenges. These 5 seasons were gifts to us as fans. Season 6 was a gift they made to themselves by having no pressure to renew the show for another season. Every good things have to come to an end. I think this might be due to the staggered release. It sort of feels like it was written for that, which is an awful idea all around. I agree that the pacing is off and the issues are too low stakes. That’s all they could afford to fit into five episodes, which is really disappointing since their writing before has been pretty good.
    Although… Even if it was silly I did kind of like the college sequence. The fight wasn’t the best but it was kind of fun and it made me laugh. I think it was important for Hawk to hear that Brucks forgave him, and even if Kyler totally should fit in with douchey frat guys, it was sweet that he helped Miguel.

But season 6 P1 was really, seriously disappointing. Like the writers phoned it in and they just don't care any more. So many monster plot holes. Characters acting in ways that just don't make sense. I seriously hope that it comes good in P2/3 but nothing about the Sekai takei setup makes sense. How is kreese there? Why does everyone make friends and then fall out and switch teams? and then switch teams again and silver is back? S6 P1 was so bad that it is hard to see how they can turn it back around, and that really makes me sad.

    I really loved Cobra Kai season six part one and one of my favorite scenes was when Tory Nichols rejoins Cobra Kai at the Sekai Taikai tournament, when Tory Nichols and Sam Larusso fight each other at Miyagi Do, and when John Kreese and Kim Dae Un team up together to defeat Miyagi Do in South Korea. I also really liked Kwon and I think that Kwon is a worthy adversary. I want to see more of Kwon in Cobra Kai season six part two. My concern for Cobra Kai season part two and part three is that I hope that they don’t show any explosive contents because to me that’s too violent and that wouldn’t make any sense to the story whatsoever. The reason why I say this is because in part one I thought that John Kreese planted a bomb in Daniel Larusso’s home during Carmen’s baby shower and I didn’t know what was going to happen. I really hope that the Cobra Kai creators don’t make the final season of the show too dark by adding explosive contents because that would be too dark. Cobra Kai season six part one was good. Sometimes in order to understand a work of art, you have to understand the author’s intentions with the story and learn to judge whether or not the execution of the story fulfills that goal. Some people have said that they were really disappointed with the part one but maybe there’s a reason why the Cobra Kai creators wrote the story the way that they did for part one. I believe that the Cobra Kai writers have something planned up their sleeve. I don’t have a problem with Tory Nichols rejoining Cobra Kai because she lost her mother and Tory Nichols had no one else to take care of her. I wasn’t really expecting Tory Nichols to rejoin Cobra Kai but at the same time I think it’s really interesting.You can’t just put a woman in pants and expect her to be the hero. It’s the brains and their ability to plan logistically. That’s what makes them the hero.

    I am thinking they possibly wanted a series finale for Brucks and Kyler .I think the writers may have reached a limit in how they could have developed those characters. So in Cobra Kai fashion they wanted to find a way if so to end those characters on a good note. The problem I think was while they meant to build those 2 up, they did it at the expense of the main characters. Also the scene between kyler and miguel does not work as the history between kyler and Sam needed to be resolved first. I would be wrong if kyler and /or brucks are seen again in the final 10. But I am thinking again that those 2 along with stingray have already had their series wraps.

    The first part of season isn’t really slow in my opinion I do believe these episodes were needed and I believe the writing for the episodes starting with episode 1 I don’t think it would’ve been a good idea to change miyagi do and if the name were changed people would be mad asking why would they ruin the legacy 100% there would’ve been a lot more hate because of the change then not so going with miyagi do was the best option and with Johnnys redemption throughout the show it made sense as well he’s been training his students in miyagi do since season 4 so it wouldn’t make sense for eagle fang to stay around we saw the eagle fang dojo every now and again but mainly the students were training In miyagi do most of the time so it wouldn’t make sense for eagle fang to stay around really.
    Now the Sam and Tory not wanting to be at golf and stuff in the first episode was the whole point it was told in the episode they didn’t want to be there it should’ve been clear from the interactions Miguel said to Sam that it didn’t look like she and Tory was having fun so that was the whole point of the scene to drive them closer by being at the same place like Miguel and Robby last season and kinda settling their rivalry but in an different way to not make it feel like it’s just a copy and paste of Miguel and Robby.
    Now with Kenny losing to Tory and Sam that makes perfect sense they’ve been training far longer than him and the fight wasn’t really a fight because Kenny didn’t want to attack Tory and Sam Dallas said this in a live steam he done a while back the fight was supposed to be a big one but Dallas didn’t want to even fake a fight with a woman so it turned into just a tussle that’ll help Sam and Tory push their rivalry aside as well as help Kenny join miyagi do the whole point of the episode was to finish the stuff that were unresolved in season 5
    Now episode 2 ok I can’t defend the kreese training but the Johnny looking for a house part was actually a big point of the season that’s the whole reason why he is working at Larusso auto to get his credit score up
    Now finally the college part collage was on Miguel’s mind since season 4 basically and in season 6 we find out where he wants to go setting up the frat fight yeah it’s not a serious fight but not every fight needs to be one for example Miguel’s dream fights he was fighting against nobody’s and in the all valley in season 1 cobra Kai was fighting nobody’s except for Zander and Robby those were low stakes fights as well and no one complains about that and also I’m pretty sure it was supposed to be a Kyler send off
    Now everything else I can’t argue but those were just points I don’t agree with and why

    I blame it on the Writers' strike and the fact that the writers of Cobra Kai were working on "Obliterated". This season of Cobra Kai seemed rushed and they didn't think of things all the way through. Too bad. Just a few attention to details would have made part 1 of season 6 so much better.
    For example, how everyone treated Kenny when he was sick was uncharacteristic. No one tried to help him, but just watched, and some laughed, as he shit his pants.
    Also, no one really reaching out to Tory when her mother died, but just going ahead with the Sekai Taikai, was cold and disappointing not only for Amanda, but also Robby as well, who apparently did not care enough to check up and comfort Tory.
    In addition, the manufactured conflict between Demetri and Hawk was a let down, since I thought they were good friends and binary brothers. Demetri suddenly becomes a jerk, just because Hawk didn't apply to M.I.T.
    And finally, they should have explained how Kreese was able to just travel around easily while evading capture. I am okay that he can do it, but at least show how he was able to do so.

      I think it was really a no-win situation. Whoever lost that fight was going to be accused of getting nerfed - plus, Johnny already lost a fight to Silver (who was seemingly out of practice for many years). But, yeah, I’m kind of disappointed that Barnes is not an OP fighter. 1984 Johnny would have virtually stood no chance against 1985 Mike Barnes. I think it’s safe to say that If Mike Barnes would have stuck with his training, I think we would have beaten Johnny fair and square.

    I am a man to admit, the first three episodes started off slow
    The cage fight against the payne brothers was kind of a let down, as I thought it would be an intense tag match where Robby and Miguel take them on and help eachother out equally, but instead they made it another fight where Miguel swoops in and saves Robby and is given the primary spotlight in the fight
    Miguel saving Robby isn’t bad(I have written many stories where Miguel does such) but they made Robby look very weak in that fight
    Edit: I also kinda feel like the girls didn’t need to be involved in the fight, their scuffle with Kenny was kinda cringe. They could’ve found another way to have the girls team up against a common enemy.

How was it that Daniel & Amanda just allowed Chozen to move into their home for three months?). The worst thing, though, is that Netflix is releasing Season 6 in three parts with too-long waits between them. It's kind of like going to a restaurant and having too long a wait after ordering a meal for the individual items to come up (entree doesn't arrive for an hour after appetizers put on table). We, the fans, waiited about two years for Cobra Kai to return. WQe should have had the pleasure of binge-watching the entire 6th season from start to finish. I actually really enjoyed the first 5 episodes. To me it seems a bit like nitpicking from fans because the story hasn't finished. And all of the complaints that I've read.... • @roundtable3501
      @roundtable3501 2 месяца назад

      I agree with some of this. I think some of the fans’ complaints do go too far and special pleading is engaged in. But I think the disappointing element is that the flaws present here are some of the flaws from previous seasons. The writers didn’t learn from their mistakes. I think the two biggest were repetition/regression of characters and the half hour format. The half hour format just doesn’t work anymore. I think part of it you can understand because for the last season and a two year gap, you want things to be as good as they can. And even though I enjoyed it, they just could’ve been done better.

    • @jlee2383
      @jlee2383 2 месяца назад

      @@roundtable3501 for me, there has always been an "issue" with the show. I feel like the concept for it was not meant for a long series, but maybe 1 or 2 movies or a 1-2 season show tops. I promise, while I was watching Season 1, I thought that it would only really be able to run for one season. Then the Kreese intro meant they'd have another season. Throughout Season 2, I felt this show can't last more than another season. Same thing with the finale to that season. It has always found a way to overstay it's welcome. I credit the writers for giving us good stuff in every season so that it was worth it, but there's a reason every season is padded with repetitive beats. Also, the ridiculous/eye-roll inducing moments throughout the show.... I seriously think there are writers on the staff who don't see them as bad things. They keep incorporating them even though they know some fans think it's lame. To them, they're not flaws. On that note, I swear at least one of the writers is a diehard anime fan who loves making the show a real-life anime and does so unapologetically.

I would've much preferred that over the stupid as hell Kenny/Devon subplot. For me, the whole subplot about Devon lacing Kenny's water with Laxatives was the worst thing about Season 6(at least so far). Also, Piper was a total clout chaser in Season 4: She was going to join Eagle Fang, but joined Cobra Kai instead because they had better merchandise. There's no way she would resist the chance to compete in a World Karate Tournament, and since Cobra Kai was no longer a viable option in the Valley, she'd have no choice but to go to Miyagi Do.

      Off-Screen Theory: Kreese escaped prison and went straight to Silver’s house to get revenge. He found the place trashed and occupied by Terry’s Butler only. The Butler didn’t know about their beef, but knows they were best friends for decades and partners in Cobra Kai.
      The Butler tells Kreese the place got trashed when Johnny, Chozen & Barnes surprise attacked Silver, who was just arrested after an incident at the flagship dojo. He also tells Kreese that he’s in charge while Silver’s gone & just arranged a flight home for Kim/The Fist senseis on Terry’s private jet.
      So Kreese tells the Butler it’s an emergency that he meets Kim in Korea to fix this whole mess & gets access to Terry’s private jet and pilot. That’s how he is able to fly back & forth undetected.
      -Another option: instead of the butler, Kreese finds Snake & Dennis running things and they give him access to Silver’s private jet & resources. Even if they know about the beef with Kreese & Silver, perhaps they don’t care and only want to see Cobra Kai come back, but with them running it this time. So they make a deal with Kreese for a percentage of Cobra Kai so they can be dojo partners instead of henchmen.
