    Finally someone actually addressing the fact that it's 10 septillion times faster at solving a VERY SPECIFIC problem. Most media is saying it like we now have a general purpose computer that's somehow 10 septillion times faster.

      Media coverage on this advancement is awful. They never mention that the speed improvement is for nonpracticle jobs (like generating random numbers) and only say that they hold infinite values between 0 and 1.

      You're absolutely right. Except it's not 10 septillion times faster, it's 1 nonillion times faster (i.e. one million septillion).
      Again, it doesn't invalidate your point. I just want to correct the number.

      @@revy6183 I think we may be referring to different types of set ups. You are correct about the temperatures. There is a way to program qubits via magnetic resonance at room temp for single and double quantum states that do degrade at room temperature fast but you can still get calculations for high fidelity rates. To create an algorithm and build a neural network. It takes way longer but has already been implemented in certain applications for students and researchers in quantum computers.

    • @AdamNeo-s3m
      @AdamNeo-s3m 29 дней назад +28

      @@FACTOPTENZA remember that the reason they run these set ups is so that the quantum states or qubits will hold their superposition WAY longer at the temp you stated and for a larger number of entangled qubits. That does not mean you cannot use NMR and Photonics to still get quantum calculations for programming, the qubits just decay WAY faster at room temperature.

    Starting in 1943, the Allies used a dozen SIGSALY stations to allow encrypted voice transmission, using a digital systm to essentially frequency-hop the voice audio rather than the RF. Rather than a paper tape it used a large record with the encrypting/decrypting key as an audio recording. It required a very large support facility (30 full-height vacuum tube racks and 30 kW of electrical power), and a given record could only contain 12 minutes worth of data.
    And the issue of RF reception underwater was less important than the need for the operator to see both the torpedo AND the target. As you might expect, a torpedo running underwater is not easy to see.

    Remember: quantum computing is for graphics cards and password breaking, not general computation.

    • @MartinBarker
      @MartinBarker Месяц назад +159

      Quantum computing is indeed powerful for specific tasks like password breaking and certain types of simulations, it's also useful For long sequence, non-parallel algorithms, 105 qubits are not sufficient for most tasks currently. However, if the technology advances to millions of qubits, it could handle these tasks. The key advantage of quantum computing is its ability to explore all possible permutations simultaneously and narrow down solutions based on previous results.

    @collinguo2175 Месяц назад +293

    Two things: 1, the biggest thing is cracking RSA, making any "secure" message from the last 30ish years readable. People have saved messages for exactly this reason, particularly around places where government documents might be shared. 2) Qubits can be used for error correction, so this only matters if it's overall more efficient. (An oversimplified example: if you have 15% of error, 85% correct per qubit, 10 qubits has a 0.8^10 or only about a 19.7% chance of no error. If that goes down to 10% error, 90% correct at 100 qubits, that's still 1/37648 chance to succeed. If those 100 qubits cost as much as 1000 normal qubits, you can just assign multiple qubits to a task. Assigning 10 qubits and taking the consensus (most common answer), you get better than 1/2 success (57%), instead of 1/37648 (0.000027%)

Military leaders assembled in front of the new machine and were instructed to feed a difficult tactical problem into it. They described a hypothetical situation to the computer and then asked the pivotal question, "Attack or retreat?"
    The computer hummed away for a minute and then came up with the answer, "Yes."
    The generals looked at each other, stupefied.

      dude fusion will literally drop energy prices massively. the only reason current nuclear energy isnt very popular is because you need to find somewhere to put the waste, with fusion there is no waste, so fusion power plants could be built in any country, on a much larger scale, possibly phasing out fossil fuels for good.
