Why do people keep peddling the line “people who say boxing is dying are crazy”? Dana White said boxing was dying years ago. He doesn’t say it anymore. And nobody else does. The world knows boxing IS NOT dying.
Just listen to how Dana talks about Conor these days. "Well, when you've got as much money as him, hard to get out of bed..." Not an actual quote, but there's a huge difference in how Dana talks about his reliable stars and how he addresses Conor. Dude is done as a serious fighter. Even if he really pulled out because of his broken pinky toe and not because he's still having troubles with drugs and hooch. If he fights in the UFC again it'll be so he can finish up his contract so he can box social media clowns in KSA. Easier fights, doesn't have to train the parts of MMA he doesn't like, will get paid more money. But he isn't going to contend against guys like Islam or Arman or even Dustin. I suspect he understands this when he's not blasted on coke, hence pulling out for a broken pinky toe. You think he'd have done that during his rise?
Yup yup yup. It’s been a long time since the Chandler TUF thing finished, Conor makes a lot of noise but why hasn’t he been able to make it to a fight?
not a contender anymore but he's a great heel that generates money, buzz and exposure not just for the UFC but for analysts and commentators like Luke, Ariel and Chael. Probably won't win a belt anymore but could be in fun fights against action fighters. Conor v Nate 3 would sell. Nate slaps and strangles him though if ever.
I enjoy Ariel. He hits a very interesting point. Chandler hasn't fought in two years and hence with the UFC's current structure, he hasn't gotten paid in two years!!!! Maybe if there was some base pay for fighters to help alleviate ridiculous situations like this one???
@@highdefinitionsports7405 He (Chandler) accepted a fight against a high profile opponent and his opponent stalls, won't take drug tests and is now injured. So now he hasn't had a pay day in two years and hasn't done anything wrong but it's his fault for accepting a fight??? Seems like a weird business model.
@@highdefinitionsports7405 So what? How would you like it at your place of work if you were offered a position, it sounded great and had great pay, and you signed. Then you had to wait for a partner to sign their deal as well and in the meantime (over two years) you don't get paid. Does that sound like a good arrangement to you? Or is it just fighters and athletes that we are not supposed to question their work conditions? Let's also be very clear, this is not a one off. This is a very common UFC situation where fighters do what they're supposed to and due to circumstances outside of their control (other fighter gets hurt, can't make weight, etc) they no longer get a pay day. They don't get reimbursed for their time, their camp or their trainers their partners (all of whom still get paid even if the fighter doesn't). That's nonsense.
I used to bet heavily on UFC about 5-7 years ago. They don’t keep advanced stats, but if you do yourself, you clean up. Virtually nobody wins short notice fights or is visibly faint at weigh in. I stopped watching once ESPN got ahold of it and started charging double a PPV, their subscription plus the $80 for no stars is absurd. If a journalist has to talk up fighters and spin MMA math, it’s a bad time. UFC is basically WWE, they make fights off of names and not legitimacy anymore. Holloway went 0-3 but still has a job because they are sucking wind for draws, can’t justify the cost of PPVs. Bar business is steady, though.
Love to see Ariel on the BS Pod. I want to see him more frequently, even if it's not just UFC or fighting in general. He's got good takes on hockey, and I'd love to see Bill plant his flag on the hockey content since ESPN is too cowardly (and terrible at hockey) to effectively do it. Ariel is being disingenuous as always. McGregor and Jon Jones are the only guys who can sell more then a million buys. He knows it. Dana damn sure knows it. That's why Chandler is afraid to take another fight. He wants that pay day.
The problem is UFC is so greedy that they refuse to let any champs on a McGregor card because they don’t want to pay them PPV points on UFC card that sells well
