Carbon fiber provides a luxurious look to the phone, and it looks better than just a plain simple color. Carbon fiber is durable and doesn't fatigue like metals, and it doesn't break or crack like glass. The woven layer of carbon fiber is mostly cosmetic, but it does provide a top sheet that can protect against dents, scratches, and from breaking. Most people would prefer carbon fiber over a simple stock backglass because it looks special and is better. I love carbon fiber, and I would love to see a full carbon fiber phone exterior.

Hi Phone Repair Guru, I love your content and how you creatively approach tech repairs and projects! I wanted to share a cool idea for a video: creating a custom MacBook Pro case using carbon fiber fabric. This project could showcase: How to work with carbon fiber fabric and epoxy resin. The process of designing a lightweight and durable laptop case. Tips for achieving a professional finish on a DIY project. It’s a fun mix of customization and practicality that I think your viewers would love
Answer is plastic... Plastic won't break the NFC or Wireless charging connection and since it's softer material it handles impacts much better than glass. Adding some nice texture to it and now you have durable back that will hide scratches easily. It could make the back panel removable and more repair friendly - but people would have to get over the myth that phone needs to be glued shut to be water resistance or that removable batteries would make phones into chonkers. You should always have phone in the case though. It's better to damage 5$ case than $500+ phone.
Carbon fiber is more durable than plastic. You would also know that carbon fiber allows for wireless charging, had you watched the entire video before commenting.
But you see, that would make the phones more durable and last longer. That's not what Apple wants. Before Apple ever released a phone with a glass back they knew very well it was going to break a lot and they made it extremely difficult to replace on purpose. That way they can try their best to sell you a new phone every time it breaks, or at least charge you an arm and a leg for the repair.
Carbon fiber is the answer. Carbon fiber is lighter than plastic and stronger than steel. Carbon fiber is also durable and doesn't fatigue like metals. The woven layer of carbon fiber is mostly cosmetic, but it does provide a top sheet that can protect against dents, scratches, and dings. Yes, a carbon fiber case can interfere with wireless charging because carbon fiber is conductive and can act as an electromagnetic shield. If it interferes, then just REMOVE THE CASE WHILE CHARGING.
