@@corgansow7176 aside from pretty much the entire parts with choir, you'd think that this would be one of their most hit sections during rehearsal since it's so delicate.
@@hillcresthiker Convertgebouw does a much better rendition. I sympathize with Peter in the sense that it felt a bit underwhelming. They don’t quite reach the same dynamic in the brass chorale till the very last beat, whereas other brass sections really push it fairly early on in the crescendo. But I feel like in other excerpts the Vienna Philharmonic really shines
@@gearaddictclimber2524 I was thinking it was a weak rendition but they kind of hit you with a late bloom there. A little rough around the edges, but that's not necessarily bad. Interesting for sure. I like the (or 'a') NY version of this, but I'm biased. I like the Concertgebouw too, but it's just a tiny bit tame for my particular taste. All are great.
Mahler was a great orchestrator because each member of the orchestra thinks they have the best part.
Yeah but everyone knows it's the contrabassoon here.
Go figure! @@e.heckscher1576
I think it is the other way around

Probably one of the greatest orchestral passages ever written.

This is Mahler's stairway to heaven ladies and gentlemen.
not even.close. when we get there ...if we make it, you'll see Bruckner first along with Celibidache

I can't believe when you cut it off!!!😡🤬
Underwhelming cymbal crash at 1:30.
You had to be there 😊
@@rileyisawesome10 It's more of a riff. When done well, it's spectacular.
Give me Bernstein every day
Maybe it's just not a great recording, but this is hardly the most thrilling performance of this section. Desultory in fact.
100% agree
Don't know if they didn't have time to rehearse this section. The voicing of the chords are totally off

Wonderful Symphonic work by Mahler played by a very good, but not 'great' orchestra.
You've got to be kidding- who, then, in your opinion, is great?
