I remember my great grandmothers and my grandmothers making many rhubarb dishes when I lived in New England. It grew wild in their yards. Remember the large beautiful leaves. Oh the memories.
I ❤ rhubarb! Here in the Midwest, it is often mixed with strawberries (as in strawberry-rhubarb pie or jam). I found out recently that this pairing is considered shocking in certain foodie circles. Growing up on the combination, it seems perfectly normal to me, so I don't quite understand the bru-ha-ha.
I grew up on strawberry and rhubarb. My family loves it. Try homemade strawberry ice cream with rhubarb compote.

I'm ashamed to say I have never tasted rhubarb. I may have seen it at my grandmother's house when I was a child, but it probably had no appeal. But watching this cake being put together....I could almoat taste it. The combined flavors look scrumptious! Thank you, Kevin for another wonderful presentation.

My maternal Grandmother made a strawberry-rhubarb cobbler. Woaaaaa!!! It was sooo sweet. She was from Tennessee. Everything was overly sweet😉.

Dear Kevin, I want to thank you profoundly. I made your coronation quiche this week for family coronation celebrations and thanks to your recipe it is probably one of the best pastry items and the best quiche I’ve ever made! Everyone enjoyed it and commented on how perfect and tasty it was - in large part I believe, to your recipe as I had never thought of using lard as part of the fats used in it and was very surprised at how good the pastry was (I am the worst pastry Maker in the probably the whole world). I also made the oatmeal cookies and your Victoria sponge with some rhubarb scones for afternoon tea with finger sandwiches and your cabbage casserole for dinner with my home made gelato and wafers as dessert - it was all a success so thank you for your patient and remote tutoring. ❤ forever grateful for - you and your wonderful recipe book.

Hello Mr.Jacobs. I have been following your Vlogs for about a year .I like your friendly cultured way. I am German and I understand you so well that I do not need subtitles. I have had difficulties on a few visits to the USA.Especially near Pensacola. I am also glad to see that you also use the Royal Albert Chinaware. I have the same with the roses in red. I inherited the service from an old Lady.
By the way, rhubarb is very popular in Germany. We have it from April to June 24. After that it contains too much oxalic acid and was not harvested. Very refreshing is rhubarb juice with mineral water.

I have a rhubarb patch that grows by my garage. People walking by sometimes ask if they can pick some to make pie or crisp with. I think that I might try making this lovely cake with. I especially like the pattern that is made from the rhubarb on top, or is it the bottom? Which ever. As a Midwesterner, I associate rhubarb with strawberries. We often had rhubarb and a sweet custard sauce for our tea time in the spring. My Family grew it, and it was so pretty.

There is nothng quite like a cultivated "Tea-Time", and Rhubarb is one of my favorite cooked (?) fruits/vegetables. The upside-down cake is a novel way of approaching baking rhubarb that I've never experienced before. Must try it when the Rhubarb comes into season which should be soon. Thankyou for sharing.

I made your cake today, Kevin. Amazing recipe - so delicious! I cut the rhubarb into 1.5" diagonal pieces and made a chevron design in an 8x8" square pan. It's lovely! I also ordered your cookbook and am excited to try more things. You bring happiness. ;)

Lovely cake. I've always grown rhubarb, even in the mountains of Colorado. Encourage everyone to grow it too. Takes a while to get established but then you will have it forever. I have two varieties in my garden, a green and a red stalk. Both taste great but the green is hardier. Make rhubarb and strawberry jam and a rhubarb ginger chutney.
