  • Hello, Friends!
Join me for project updates, some exciting new cast-ons and my exploration of budget yarns. Come and tell me about your favorite “budget” yarns - nice to work with and in the finished product. 🥰
Sock on 9" circulars ~ Crazy Sock Lady
    Yarn: Regia Celebrations sock yarn
    Sock on 9" circulars ~
    Yarn: Hawthorne by KnitPicks, colorway
    Patons Sock Yarn, Mexicala colorway
    Andrea Gaughan Summer Tee
    Yarn: Purl Soho Santolina
Tin Can Knits Flax Sweater (free pattern)
Yarn: Two of Wands Color Theory, Canyon colorway (Lion Brand yarn)
Budget yarns: I mentioned the Lion Brand HUE + ME yarn - 80% acrylic and 20% wool
Yarn Bee acrylic yarn- worsted weight
UPDATE: I didn’t like the way the particular Yarn Bee Hobby Lobby yarn felt. I’d be willing to try other types.
Lion Brand Wool Ease live also used and would use again. It’s also 80% acrylic and 20% wool.

Always choose, buy and use the yarns you want. It doesn´t matter what others think. As for sock tutorials, I would highly recommend Denise (Earthtones Girl) because she does an excellent job explaining how to do socks of all kinds, and her demos are the best. Super clear.

Noelle, I love love this sentiment. 🥰🥰. And thank you for reminding me about the Earth Tone Girl tutorials. I have a few saved and I want to go back to them now that I’m practicing sock heels again. Thank you!

While I’ve been knitting for many years, it’s so refreshing to see a new knitter out here trying garments, socks…items that are pretty advanced for a beginner, and having fun with it! Many of the channels out there are advanced knitters and seeing the level of knitting they’re capable of can be very disheartening, especially when some of us will NEVER get to that level; not because we don’t want to, but because we don’t have people around us to show us how to do things properly. Watching videos is one thing; having a real person next to you is something totally different! I love your enthusiasm and can’t wait to watch more! I’m learning, too! Socks have always intimidated me, but you’ve dug right in and tackled them! Maybe I’ll try again, too!

Leslie, thank u SO much! I know what you mean about all the extraordinary knitters making podcasts. I do also somehow find ones here and there that are more beginner. And I like that too!

I have been knitting now for around 60 years, always fun to see a new knitter who is all excited and very adventurous with exploring the all the possibilities of the craft. Back in those days we had to find a book with knitting instructions to tell us how to accomplish the stitches. But I only started knitting socks about 15 years ago and now I am obsessed with making socks. Your first start with sock architecture is great and with each sock you make you will find what you like and what works well for you. So good job‼️ Enjoy the adventure 👍🏻

Thanks for sharing your knitting journey. What I learned during the whole knit sock and heel adventures was priceless. I learned so much, increase/decrease , gussets, after thought heels, twisted rib, etc . which opened up the rabbit hole to garment knitting. Welcome to the fun crazy adventure!

Your enthusiasm is contagious! I love that you're trying socks. I swore I'd never knit socks again after my first pair, but now Ive knit over 10 pairs and I love doing socks. I recently learned to make the shorty socks and that has been fun.

I loved all of your projects!! I love using budget friendly yarn because they are very accessible and affordable. Especially if I’m trying a new pattern and I don’t want to spend a ton of money on yarn. I understand why people don’t like acrylic yarn but it’s nice to have that option when you first start out. Lion Brand has always been a favorite of mine and I still use their yarn to this day. I can’t wait to see what you make next 😊

As a new knitter seeing your adventurous spirit is wonderful. I’ve been knitting for 3 years and still have not mustered up the courage to make a sweater or socks lol. Kudos to you! I would like to add my opinion on tinking back. It sucked in the beginning, but honestly, once I embraced correcting my (many) errors, the act of tinking back teaches loads of information on stitch construction. I understand my stitch layout so much better. And while I may roll my eyes in my head over the lost time…. Fixing the error is still knitting and it can be as enjoyable :-)
I look forward to your next video. Liking and subscribing :-)

Sock heels are magical! Crazy Sock Lady is a great resource.
My favorite short row heel is the Shadow Wrap; as mentioned by a previous commenter Earthtones Girl has a great tutorial for this. I primarily use it with self-striping yarn when I don’t want to interrupt the stripes.
A heel flap and gusset seems to fit my foot more securely, and there is something magical about the heel turn.

I knit a lot of gift knits and I use acrylic yarn so people can just wash and wear. I also use cotton blends because I live in a warmer climate. I agree that when you are beginning knitting it is better to use budget yarns. I find that Lion Brand yarns are very nice for baby knits and gift knits. I agree that Color Theory is a nice yarn and I feel that if it is good enough for famous designers, it’s good enough for me! Happy Knitting!

Have you looked at dropping down stitches to correct a missed purl, rather than ripping back? I believe Roxanne Richardson, Nimble Needles, and VeryPinkKnits have tutorials for it. Having a crochet hook handy makes it much easier too.

I really enjoyed your podcast , you are doing amazingly well for someone who has only been knitting for a few months 😊.before you know it you’ll be knitting more complex patterns that always look harder than they really are ,in my opinion experience if you like a pattern just try it , after all knitting is easy to frog and start again.

I used an acrylic yarn and it really turned out nice! Oh and instead of knitting the sweater in pieces, I just knit it in the round. I think others have included how they did it in their project notes on ravelry ❤ Webs is another on line store that has pretty good discounts…….Thank You for sharing,😊 SuAnn

I try to stay away from Acrylic or at least an all acrylic yarn. But that's me. I will use it for an item that I don't plan on wearing regularly (like a witch hat) I crocheted a witch hat one Halloween. But lets face it most of the manufacturer's like Red Heart and Lion Brand have the majority of their products in all acrylic or at least a blend. It's really hard to shop for affordable natural yarn I think without ordereing outside of the USA. At least for my area in Georgia anyway. I don't fault anyone who is fine with using or wearing it.

@@AdventurerKnits as far as worsted wool I have only used Patons and of course Lion Brand Wool-Ease worsted. I am trying some different wool sock yarns but I stick with worsted weight or dk weight for things like hats, scarves or sweaters. I have passed up the Eddie Bauer before because $10.00 a skein was more than I wanted to pay. But with a coupon or door buster it would be a lot more economical. My only wish is that they made it in more colors. I have looked online and Joann is the only retail store I've seen it at. But I am looking forward to knitting with it.

@@AdventurerKnits I just remembered that I found a superwash wool by Cascade yarns. I made mittens out of them. It was a thrift store find. But it knitted up nicely. So if I saw a good deal I might buy that again.

Your Regia sock turned out good! I am sure that sock will be warm. On your next visit to Joann check out the Eddie Bauer Wool-paca yarn. If you are scouting for fall/winter sweater yarn this yarn feels so luxurious. I picked up a skein (maybe for a hat) since at the time it was a doorbuster for 40% off. It made it $6.00. It's merino/alpaca wool blend and it feels really soft. I know it will be warmer than a regular wool yarn. I haven't knit a sweater as of yet but I think this would make a very nice one.
