Great video! yep, pricing is very tricky. I lost so much money undercutting myself to try to get more clients. I got fedup and stopped doing it altogether. After 8 years I just started a killer website and am going to charge what I feel I am worth. I'm getting too old to be shooting all day and losing money. subbed. Been into photography since the film days.
Love that! There's so many different brands and work out there that no matter what our prices are if we can easily translate our worth via our marketing, someone will pay what we're putting down. I found I resented so many projects where I caved to the brand and undercut myself.
Hi Amanda, I’d like to know what you used to control your Photoshop. A tablet, pen, or just a mouse track pad? What allows you to have the most comfortable work flow when spending a lot of time in Photoshop?
Appreciate you putting this video together and the wisdom you share - pricing has always been the hardest part - the photo and video work I do ends up as a day rate and im undercharging and providing great value and over providing a service with great content but client not willing pay more and its not easy find new clients out there who all want to use agencies and not take risk in a small sole trader. Im working on my portfolio to improve the look and feel and needs more
Thank you so much! It’s definitely a huge struggle for so many and I still encounter so many brands who do not want to pay my rates. Can definitely take a while to find those clients who will but they’re out there 🙌
Amanda, I just wanted to say thank you for all of your AMAZING advice. I have begun to take my product photography more seriously and just starting down this path of starting my business and it's starting to get to the point where I feel confident enough with my photographing and editing to start reaching out to brands. But I have absolutely NO idea about alooot of the business side of it like contracts, pricing, imaging release forms, making myself a website, getting my portfolio together before reaching out to potential clients. Alot of your videos are helping me out with some of those things and I just wanted to say thank you. Because it's helping to point me in the right direction to give me the confidence I need to start down this path. I still have some things to figure out but you have given me a good start of what to do and how to answer some of these questions I have and for that I am grateful 🙏 Love your content on Instagram too btw.
Can I charge per item based on their selling price. For a diamond studded item can be selling for 1000/= plus, so charging per item photo 50.00 is it worth ? Thank you
I disagree on the first point. I've seen 'professionals' who were in the industry for years but their photos still look amateur and vice verse. There are photographers with little experience but with a great vision. It depends on passion and desire to learn more about photography.
I agree with you that your skills also depends on your passion of course! Passion is an important element to excelling at anything. My point of experience is still valid though. Someone who has only had 1 year experience won’t have had enough projects to learn from as opposed to someone who is 4-5 years in. I’m 6 years in and I’m still learning with every project but it’s because of my years of experience that have got me where I am. But I agree with you that passion is important yes and someone’s desire to learn can fast track their skills. But hands on experience is also very important and that comes with time 😊

Personally I use a mouse. Definitely comes down to personal preference 😊

what is the brand of your top and earrings you're wearing? let me know
Value based pricing = gold
It is! We should never price solely based on time.
