Car painting = 90% prep.
Well done
97% with polish for "Mercedes show room" level finish 🔥
One thing that becomes very noticeable when watching sped up video like this is how much work one does with their dominate hand. After noticing this for awhile, when I'm doing something in the workshop I've been challenging myself to switch hands with very repetitive motions to reduce fatigue and to build skills and muscle memory with my off hand.
Good idea. Helps prevent tennis elbow and the like.
Very wise
Nice notice man!
I really enjoy watching your work, glad to see you work with your father and you listen to him😊. The low music you play doesn't drown your voice or the show itself, well done.
At 1000 grit the first coat of primer will have nothing to hang on to. Anything higher than 800 grit will not let the paint stil. You use 1000 and higher after painting to get rid of orange peel. Good luck with the project.
Yeah as a painter this video did make me cringe a lot, some research would’ve helped him for sure
I can’t describe how much I like the freshly painted Mercedes, It’s jaw dropping and Id love to see that paint job in person.
I think you're seeing the light at the end of the tunnel on this one. The new paint looks great and super props to you for all of that prep!
What hard work!! Your attention to even the smallest details continue to impress me. Thanks.
At the end of this awesome project, please take some vacations.
It's a pleasure to admire this paint job, congratz !
You've done a really amazing job on this car and you must have learned so much in the process, not least how to avoid under recovering for your time, well done.
Congrats, looks great. All efforts for such shining car. Be proud on you
That color is just amazing , great work 👏🏼 can't wait to see this done
Yes I have been waiting for this part I love painting cars and model cars
Dude, I love the work you do.
As for you going insane because of it, that just shows that you do a good job.
Looking forward to seing it fully assembled.
Great job!
Looks great!! The effort you've put into this car is gonna pay off
Beautiful colour on a superb car. As always, your work is detailed enough to demystify and inspire
Oh my, what a colour - great job!
Looking already perfect!
Beautiful work!
Turned out amazing!
Great work, I've been looking forward to this vid ☺️
Been looking forward to this man!
Even though I'm not crazy about the color, the finished paint job looks absolutely beautiful!
All that effort has paid off looking at the finished paint job 🤩
Worth the time and effort that was put into it
The car looks amazing
Wow, car looks so good. I do love that colour.
Great choice of colour !
Dry nice indeed. A work of art.
Amazing work man hands down
Absolutely brilliant 👍👍
Thank you mate!
Great paint work😎👍
Nice colour. Looks great.
This color is amazing
Love your work 👍
Really good job. I have one of these and am fixing it up myself. I go through periods of giving up and wishing I sold it already onto someone else. Can be complicated cars and can eventually kill your love for them but once you see the progress you have made you get to witness the light at the end of the tunnel. Good job
Great job guy!
Great work!
Thanks, Josip!
It is amazing how good bonnet and left fender fit together. I wish mine had fitting this good
Good restore👍
You and your work is great👍👍👍👍
FANTASTIC!
Cheers, Jason!
Sehr Gut geworden. Kompliment.
Amazing!
I. CANNOT. WAIT. To See The Finished Result.
even just by the music choice in this episode i feel like it's evident that you've got a huge weight lifting off your shoulders. the mercedes looks fantastic and i can't wait to see a return to the bmws.
Very beautiful work👍🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks for your job posting on RUclips 🙏
Wow it's Looking amazing Beautyfull Work Love it very ❤️⭐👍❤️
Incredible work gone into this lovely old Merc 👍.
Turned out gorgeous, but I’m also happy you’re getting back to the e30s ;)
This was indeed a job well done
That's a great color
Great stuff buddy your on the home straight light at the end of the tunnel. I know when you get into some projects you can get in to a right rut with them. but good on you
You are doing an incredible job on this Mercedes. It is a real joy to watch you work and your attention to detail. Cheers.👍🏻👍🏻
as a w123 owner/enthusiast i loved this series
That merc looks gorgeous. Im hoping for 10 minute restoration video
Superb. As someone who has done this, I found that I HAD to split up the sanding job into dozens of 'little jobs'.
Why?
Because fatigue quickly sets in and you won't be as conscientious about the sanding, twenty minutes in, with a sore back and forearm, as you were at the very beginning. Fatigue makes you sloppy and you start skipping steps.
Having said that, I also endorse back-masking!
Prep is 99% of the job, and you sir, have done a fantastic job!
Perfect
Bravo grande capo lavoro
Very nice waiting next video
Wont be long!
Looking forward to this
It didn’t disappoint! Good job on that
Glad you liked it Sandy!
LOOKIN' GOOD, KEEP SAFE..
Looks awesome, and I'll bet you'll be glad to be rid of it. lol. Suprised they had you sand it to 1000 grit prior to paint. I don't think I've ever seen anyone recommend going that high. Usually 600 is most common with the occasional 800. But you did a great job and it looks great! Cheers!
Mate, wow that is some fine work. fancy doing some work on my merc, I know it will be done well.
Bravo
Great 😍
True 1000 Grit!
Yesssssss
Finally...
Now can you go on with BMWs
So soon Eugen, so soon!
Good tip - if make wheels wet a polyethylene stiks well to them
Watching from 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Nice
As a former auto body repairman, NEVER use finger tips to sand. Always be as flat as possible with your fingers or use a block.
looks great...just one thing I've noticed:you should paint the sunroof on its own,it gives you a cleaner finish
What makes this project different from your other restos is that you bid this out to a client. On the last installment, I'd like to hear what you have to say about that. What you learned. What you might do differently moving forward. Stuff like that.
the first you do for an enemy, the second for a friend, the third for yourself.
I wish I could hear the music playing from that speaker inside your workshop
That turned out perfect. Well done my friend...
Considering you got one of the most iconic Mercedes Benz Coupe, and probably with an M110 engine, there is a video that I love to see in youtube that is entitled Tinos 123 Coupe.
Nice car.... if you got the chance to do an I.provement to the engine, and if you have that M110 engine, make a conversion to electronic fuel injection and ITB... that will make that engine more reliable.
And if you want to go even further, try to make it hybrid, by changing the gearbox and replace it with a new one from ZF with an electrical motor in its Interior.... you have a killer machine
👍👍👍👍🇰🇿🇰🇿 I'm from KAZAKHSTAN
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 magnifique
💎
😀nice
Thanks Baris!
Only just seen this video, found it by accident at that. I usually get notified about new videos but didn't get this one.
I love and wish I could do what you do. Issue is, I freakin’ hate the feel and sound of sandpaper 😂
Why you haven't removed the windshield washers? They are easy to remove. As same as the trunk sill trim.
👍
Watching this video I kept asking myself if MB still making cars that will deserve such restoration when they will become old? For sure that is not my W245, but maybe some other MB? Will C207 be worth such attention in 2040?
I guess we will be much older by the time this car is on the road again.
Hello I am restoring my father's Mercedes w123 and I have a question, is there a small hole in the lower part of the rear window frame to evacuate the water into the trunk? Greetings from Spain and thanks
NICE WORK ..........how many color you needed ? 5 Liter ?
Did you paint the engine bay as well? It should be matt paint for a factory finish, same for the inside of the bonnet.
Watch the last episode. It's the same as the exterior which I prefer over the Matt..
hello beautiful restoration work but I have been painting cars for 20 years there is weakness first of all the painter must go from left to right without interruption and not make pieces of paint the varnish advises you to be professional the less you put on the more the car will shine the sanding also used a wedge so that its is uniform good day
any problems with dust in the garage ? i also want it do in my garage !
hope whoever this car belongs to has the sense to sell it before the paint starts falling off!
Yes indeed. Finished result looks good for a first attempt. I never like saying anything negative about Steve's work because he tries so hard, but I'm afraid the prep. work is a bit suspect. I always sand the old paint down to 320, any finer and old orange peel is left showing. 320 is a good scratch for primer to stick. Then block the primer down with 180, then 320 and finally 800 for a metallic basecoat.
Amazing Work!
Where do you get the Quartz Paint from?
Im from Germany but can't find it anywere.
It is supplied exclusively in the UK by Sprayguns Direct Ltd but I thought it was actually made in Germany?
@@bobfrankish8883 Oh ok.
Yes it seems Like it. All the Labels are in German, but I never found it here.
How many hours in prep?
Why even wet sand it? It has minimal orange peel
👍🙋♂️
You should use 600 grit and sanding with bare hands isnt a good idea. beside that, good job
what are some of the tunes you are listening on your headphones?
Hello!
Color its 404 Milan Brown Metallic?
Thank You 🙏
Use a sanding block !!!
