  • Proven- the Worlds easiest, cheapest and lightest weight bee vac and swarm catcher back-up anywhere on the internet. You can build this vac cage with just a pair of scissors and 3 easy to find parts in just 20 minutes and starting at just under $3.00- more ideas below... This ' was not' intended 'as a primary' device but now that I've had so much success I am making the switch permanently to the plastic cage for weight, ventilation and other considerations. Remember that careful handling of your bees will optimize your results, and carefully removing your cage of bees and hanging it onto something seems to work best. IMPORTANT: For stiffness you can choose to add a second tube of plastic fencing, around the outside of the mesh bag. This gives you a plastic cage both on the inside and outside of the mesh bag. If you are adding a second cage over the mesh bag just add 1" to the width of the inside cage so it will slip over more easily. Make sure you have enough mesh bag at the top then you can zip tie the tops of both tubes together- (zip tying at the sides and bottom doesn't seem necessary at this point though I'm still experimenting). If you don't have plenty of mesh at the top, the cinch and draw string cannot adequately secure the bag tight around the pipe and/or when you hang it after filling it with bees and some may escape. I'm very very happy with the plastic fencing but you may waht to experiment with a cage made out of chicken or rabbit wire fencing vs. the plastic to see which you like best. I'm encouraging everyone to play with the design and post your results for the betterment of the hobby.

Thanks Rick. The laundry bag concept was shared with me some time ago (but I don't remember by whom). I just worked off the bag concept and added the cage. Knowledge building on knowledge. Blessings to you as well!

Bulk head fittings. Find the size closest to diameter of hose you are using. You can find them on Amazon.
