Great explanation of the bee vac - I've watched you use it a lot but now I understand it much better. I'm guessing you will have two more videos to get the rest of those bees out of that shed! This one was huge, very narrow but a lot of comb, and you know that queen was happy to get back to her babies, even happier when you let her bees join her! Job well done, thank you!
Hey Jeff... Love your channel!! I'd never really had any interest in bee keeping but your video came up on my feed randomly and I've been hooked ever since!! The fundamental principle is managing velocity through managing area. The box and screen have a large area and hence slow airflow while the hose has a much smaller area and hence a much faster airflow.
Dr. Victor, what an honor that you follow my channel, thank you for watching and commenting. I hope all is well with you and your bees. God's peace brother. Mr. Ed

Hey Jeff. Good to see you back. You had us worried when you didn't post last week. Another great informative video as usual. Keep it up. I look forward to your Friday posts. God Bless you and I pray your bees will provide you a bountiful harvest to subsidize the Abby ………..
7:37 There's no pressure inside here. 9:48 pressure holds box together. Does not compute! Thanks for the fascinating video, I've been curious about the vac for a while.
I noticed that the gate at the bottom of the bee vac was closed when he turned the vacuum on. The strap across the top of the box is a real good idea when that gate is open.
@@martyking6942 good point. I think even with the gate open is actually a constant pressure (otherwise there would be no suction from the tube), but because the area in the box is much wider than the tube, the air inside is much calmer. Similar to a lake with a river flowing into and out of it.
@@adam.millerchip you are correct. Once the bees reach the inside of the box the air expands out rapidly and the vacuum is decreased slowing the rush of the air toward the motor.
Thanks for the updated vac video. You said very little about your vac hose. I used a cheap hose on my vac (a copy of your vac) and it whistles badly unless the hose is near straight. Had to toss it and buy another.
I found that the "whistling" noise emanates from the hose tip. By using a larger tip, the whistle disappears, at least that's what I found. God's peaceMax. Mr. Ed
Enjoyed the video and the tutorial on the Bee vacuum. That is interesting how it works.Thank you for taking the time to produce the video. Y'all take care and God bless.

Hello Mr. Ed, I have a bee vac that's very much the same except I use a remote vacuum and supply vacuum to the unit with a hose. Even with the remote vacuum detached my vacuum is heavy. How do you carry your vacuum around?
Não posso agradecer o suficiente por suas amáveis palavras e por tomar um tempo para assistir minhas aventuras disputando abelhas, muito obrigado. A paz de Deus. Mr. Ed

As usual a great video and explanation of the Robo vac . I hope you had a great week off and I know a lot of people ( me included) missed last weeks video. Keep up the good work and God Bless
I no longer release the bees using that method, to often the honey would drip on the bees and kill a lot of them. Now, I simply release the bees in mass and let them find their queen and comb. It's pretty hectic initially, but after an hour or so, things calm down. And thanks for watching so many of my videos. God's peace Marc. Mr. Ed
Hi Jeff, great video as always. Just a question on your bee jacket, i notice you have one with a fencing hood and one with a hat and full net surround, do you prefer the hat version? i sometimes find the fencing version leaves my nose close on the net and free to attack! Also could you let me know who makes your jacket, it seems a nice breathable fabric... I have had a brief look at older videos to see if you discuss this but couldnt find anything. Many thanks for your instructive content! Much appreciated. Wayne.
Hello Wayne, I have to say, this bee jacket is the best by far I have used. It's made by Guardian Bee Apparel and the hoods are inter changeable. If I'm working bees in the yard or doing a stand up cut out, I use the full hat, very breathable. If I'm doing a cut out or working in close quarters, I use the fencing hood, and as long as you wear a baseball hat under it, the mesh will not fall in your face when lying on your back....at least not to much. I hope this helps. God's peace brother. Mr. Ed
@@JeffHorchoffHi Jeff thanks for taking the time to reply. Thats great a great tip on the bb cap! Now if i can just get my hands on one of those dirt rooster bad boys! ☺ take it easy
Great video jeff. I know a few modifications I'm going to make to my bee vac now. I wasn't sure you'd get the queen on this one. With that tin siding she could have gone anywhere. Good job!
I hope the explanations were good enough for you to understand. The principle is very straight forward, but I tend to get wobbly walking in a straight line. God's peace. Mr. Ed
Jeff. Could you please let me know how much vacuum pressure to have. I just built one similar to yours. I think it's too weak. Just need an idea of how much vacuum is enough.
I use my cheek to determine the amount of vacuum the bee vac is producing. You want the tip of the hose to gently vacuum your cheek, not to hard or not to soft. The relief gate will be opened or closed depending on how the suction need to be regulated. Another good method is vacuum styrofoam peanuts, it's pretty easy to tell if the pressure is to much or not enough that way. Good luck James, and thanks for watching. Gods peace. Mr. Ed
Thanks for posting the explanation of your BeeVac. I just watched one of your latest videos using it and I'm so happy to find this! Do you think that if you didn't manage to find the Queen and just vacuumed her up with the rest of the Bees, that she and the hive would still survive?
I usually do vacuum the queen if I do not find her as was the case in this video. As long as the queen goes with the bees, it's a pretty good bet the hive can survive the ordeal. The link below is on how I built my bee vac. Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed ruclips.net/video/tV3mR39v6RA/видео.html
Great video Jeff! What size vacuum head and what name brand did you use? I think you have a video showing how to build it. Thanks again and God bless you.
The one I'm using is a 3hp vacuum head, but it does not have to bee that large, and it came from a Ryobi Shop Vac. Here's the link to the video you are asking about. Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed ruclips.net/video/tV3mR39v6RA/видео.html
Exciting is right. Generally I wait till the nuc is almost full before I transfer it into a larger box, I have found the bees do better initially in a smaller space, and tend to grow better when they have a reduced amount of space instead of to much. Good luck with your swarm. God's peace. Mr. Ed
Why the variable vacume bleeder hole with an adjustment?. Wouldn't you find a sweet-spot and skrew it in place? How often do you adjust that while in the field?
There are times, although rare, that I adjust the vacuum pressure, and for that reason, and adjustable gate works very well. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Nick. Mr. Ed
Aha you got the same jacket modell as me. I let some bees in and them helps me keeping my back cool and ventilated. Feels good sweaty days. Regards frome Sweden
As cool as it is in Sweden, you probably only need one bee in there to do the trick. As hot as it is here in Louisiana, I need 100 in there just to feel a tiny breeze. Thanks for watching. God' peace Bub. Mr. Ed

Hi Mr. Ed, another fabulous video! Thank you so much for sharing all your adventures. Hey I was wondering, what brand of vacuum motor is that, and where did you get it?
This might be an older video but is still helpful. Thanks. I am a woodworker and plan to build my own version as a winter project for next Spring. Any advice 7 years later on things you would change? I think I'll use an adjustable latch to lock the pieces together. Also, wonder if Rockler has a gate that will work. When did you switch away from the Robovac to your current setup?
I still would build the vac the way I did, video link below. I stopped using it due to it's size and weight. The fact that it needed power to run was never an issue as I have a generator, but using the Everything Bee Vac solves all those issues. I started using the electric vac exclusively about a year ago. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 600 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them. The averaged temp is around 90 degrees, and the camera has little problem with ambient temps. Still, radiant heat is something that will give you cause for pause. After a while, you can read that easily. god's peace. Mr. Ed
do you give them back their honey? Or do you just give them blank frames to build their own? Is that one box big enough for the whole hive or do they split off?
Yes, i do give them back the honey as well as the comb they have built. It's better for the bees to have their own comb in the box they are being transferred into than to give them a blank slate. One box is all that was necessary. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Julia. Mr. Ed
Thanks for the videos I learn so much from them. I actually built a vac like this after watching your video except it is made out of a 5 gallon bucket so it would be lighter. The vacuum head still sits on top and I am able to vet it and then let the bees go into their box with out dumping bees. It would not have been possible without your videos. What model heat flair do you use and where do you buy on. Thanks again and have a great day God bless.
Good for you building your own bee vac, have you used it yet? The thermal camera I use is a Flir model # 15 TG165 and I bought it on line for about $350.00 a great tool for bee wrangling. Thank you for your blessing and for watching. God's peace Randy. Mr. Ed

There's a lot of thought put into your vac and its process, while taking care to take proper care of the bees. Good for you! : )
Thanks for your kind words and for watching. God's peace J Jo.
Mr. Ed
Wow what a huge hive. Thank you for the detailed description of the vacuum. Awesome
It was large, and the queen went right along with it being large herself. Thanks for watching Tom. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
I made a similar bee vac, but my vac gate at the bottom is screened for ventilation. I also use a bee hive box as well. I use a screened top for the first few days and feed as needed
Great modifications David, I bet you love your bee vac like I love mine. Thanks for watching. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
I love your bee vac. Hudge hive for sure. Stay awesome n God bless you and your family
Good bees, great bee vac, and awesome God....the correct combination for a super day of be wrangling. Your blessing is greatly appreciated. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Great video Jeff. Big hive. I use my vacuum base on top and let the bees move down into the box. Great explanation for the bee vac. Lots of help.
As the saying goes, there's more than one way to skin a cat, and when it comes to wrangling bees, it still applies. Thanks for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Excellent job on the video. Appropriate the break down of the vac. Blessings!
I'm happy to pass on the little knowledge I have, thanks for taking the time to watch and leave a comment. God's peace Eric.

I really appreciated learning how the bee vac works. And, I'm forever amazed at your hive removals. Lot's of greatness packed into this video! Thanks for all you do Mr. Ed! God Bless always!
This was an outstanding video Jeff!!! Thanks so much! You answered many questions Ive had while watching your previous videos but never asked and soooo many more things I never (but should have) thought of. Thanks Jeff!
Great video. Thanks for the tips and clear instructions.

What an incredible hive! Section 1 was impressive enough and then... wow.
It was large with lots of bees, honey and comb. I have to admit, when I saw the size of the second section, I was surprised myself. God's peace Nathan.

Another bless video Mr.Ed! Learn so much! Have a bless day!
Thanks for the link Mr Ed. That was very useful & I'll make one up this winter. I'm not sure how or if I should show you my original workshop vac with the bee veil used to catch the remaining swarm as I don't seem to be able to share images with your site here. Your videos are great work & so informative. Thank you and cheers. Gervase.
I'm happy to share my adventures and what little knowledge I have on bees and equipment. Thanks for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
I will do another removal from this shed tomorrow, and of course there will bee a video on it. Stay tuned. God's peace Julie.
Mr. Ed
Nicely presented Jeff....
Glad you liked it Mark, there's alway a good time when it comes to wrangling bees. Thanks for watching. God's peace brother.

Thank you Jeff. So happy I found your videos. I'm still watching your older videos, but trying to keep up on the new. God bless you for making these. I've learned a lot from them. I'm sure with all this information I can catch swarms also. And thank you Jeff. God bless.
Thank you for your blessing, your kind words, and for taking the time to watch and leave a comment. Looking forward to hearing from you again Melvin. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
The fundamental principle is managing velocity through managing area. The box and screen have a large area and hence slow airflow while the hose has a much smaller area and hence a much faster airflow.
Great explanation, thanks for that and for watching. God's peace Peter.
Mr. Ed
Thank you for interesting video. Best greetings from beekeepers in Ukraine!

Hey now, swarm season hasn't even started up here yet! 😉Good to see a video; you were missed last week!
If you catch a swarm, send me the shot.....as long as you get your face in the picture. Great to know I was missed. God's peace Kelly. Mr. Ed
Absolutely; one of my cats loves watching your videos more than I do, I think, and she comes running every morning to see if I'm going to have you'n'bees for her to purr to. 😊 (And you absolutely won't see me catching a swarm! I'm afraid I'm in the small population of OH NO BEES *dies from allergies*. I just know that the beekeepers I follow up here in the Northeast haven't even had a spring flow yet! VinoFarm and Emmymade have both been posting videos about it.)
I'm happy to supply your cat with all the bee wrangling it can handle, I wish more cats were like yours. By the way, one of my other jobs here at the abbey is feeding the cats. There were 4, but we lost 2 in the last 4 weeks to old age. God's peace Kelly.

My condolences to you and the brothers at the Abbey, Jeff; losing a furry one is always hard, even if you know you've given them a beautiful life. ❤️

Congratulations Mr Ed sir
I think that’s a great idea to have handles on the boxes all boxes I no your chatting about the bee vacc
Lucky again in the capture of the queen, as most always you are succesfull, really liked the information on the bee vac. God bless you and all of your bees, we still have no bees here in Alaska, I have lots of flowers in the greenhouse but no bees, but they will come soon.
You cold weather folks sure have it rough. Thanks for your blessing and for always following along Richard. God's peace brother.

Hey Jeff. Good to see you back. You had us worried when you didn't post last week. Another great informative video as usual. Keep it up. I look forward to your Friday posts. God Bless you and I pray your bees will provide you a bountiful harvest to subsidize the Abby ………..
Thank you for your blessing and concern Ken, they are greatly appreciated. Till next week, God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
Great video,missed you last week.
The pressure is all in the hose, once the bees are "dumped" into the box, it is as if it were dead air inside of the box. God's peace. Mr. Ed
An easy way to attach the box parts together would be to use old style window sash locks to fasten them securely .
Very good idea, thanks for the suggestion and for watching. Till the next time, God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Thank you for your blessing and kind words Ron. Till the next time, God's peace.

great explanation on the bee vac- ive wanted to know how they work from the get go-- and man what a Queen you took on that one-- i hope she makes lots of babies and the hive thrives-- much love... Glo
As always, great to hear from you Glo. Good bees and a great queen, these bees are destined for production.....at least I hope so. God's peace.

Hello Mr. Ed, I have a bee vac that's very much the same except I use a remote vacuum and supply vacuum to the unit with a hose. Even with the remote vacuum detached my vacuum is heavy. How do you carry your vacuum around?
Easy, I use Armstrong. God's peace Howard.

Love your channel Jeff! And love your positive and beautiful spirit even more!! Have a good long Memorial Day weekend.

Amen to that. Thanks for watching. God's peace.

As usual a great video and explanation of the Robo vac . I hope you had a great week off and I know a lot of people ( me included) missed last weeks video. Keep up the good work and God Bless
Thank you for your blessing and understanding Michael. Till next time, God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
Mr Ed, quick question please? How come you open the bottom hose door? Will they all fly out or will they still climb on the comb? Thanks so much!
Mr. Ed
Hello from Indiana. Great video!
Good morning to you as well. So glad you liked the video, and thanks so much for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
That flir camera is awesome
I never go on a wrangling adventure without it. It locates the bees very well. Thanks for watching. God's peace Kyle.
Mr.

@@JeffHorchoff wow! Thanks Mr Ed!
Mr. Ed
Fantastic work Mr. Ed! Im always looking forward to your Friday videos. I was a bit worried about you last week lol
No worries, I'm back on track. Till next week, God's peace Chris.

Thanks for sharing Mr.ED 10-5-2021👏🏽👏🏽💕💕👍🏽👍🏽❤️❤️
Mr. Ed
ruclips.net/video/tV3mR39v6RA/видео.html
so as long as you have that bleed of hole does it matter about the horsepower of the vacuum?
Great video Jeff! What size vacuum head and what name brand did you use? I think you have a video showing how to build it. Thanks again and God bless you.
The one I'm using is a 3hp vacuum head, but it does not have to bee that large, and it came from a Ryobi Shop Vac. Here's the link to the video you are asking about. Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed

It must be Friday -excellent as always
You know it's Friday! God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
Hi Mr Ed, just caught my first swarm in a 5 frame Nuc - Exciting stuff. How long would you wait to transfer them to a standard hive?
Exciting is right. Generally I wait till the nuc is almost full before I transfer it into a larger box, I have found the bees do better initially in a smaller space, and tend to grow better when they have a reduced amount of space instead of to much. Good luck with your swarm. God's peace. Mr. Ed
@@JeffHorchoff Thank you Mr Ed, advice gratefully received!

Hi Mr. Ed, another fabulous video! Thank you so much for sharing all your adventures. Hey I was wondering, what brand of vacuum motor is that, and where did you get it?
It's a Ryobi detachable shop vac head.It also works as a leaf blower. I got it from Home Depot. Thanks for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Issac.

What is the avg temp of a bee hive? Does the flir device help you see the hive heat no matter the ambient temp?

Whoa! Beautiful circles of brood!!! WOW
It is always a treat to see how bees build comb and then fill it out. Thanks for watching. God's peace Barb.
Mr.
