Thank You So Much Marilyn you REALLY have a Gift for doing these tutorials! I mean SERIOUSLY, a Gift! PLEASE continue doing them because you are helping SO MANY of us. Im a newbie and I syarted following you because you have been my best teacher. Im learning about Facebook so i can following and join your group. Can you please have a class on rhinestone fonts. Please and thank you.
Thank you so much for such a nice comment! Are you looking for the best fonts for making rhinestone templates or are you looking for good premade rhinestone fonts to buy?
Once again another very informative video. Which did you find easier to learn Inkscape or silhouette. This seems so much easier. When you bring in a rhinestone design like from esty into silhouette is it easy to change it up if you need to. I have tried sure cuts a lot and Inkscape. Not computer savvy but Inkscape seem to be more complicated to learn then what you just showed. Thank you for your time.
Inkscape definitely has a learning curve, but I truly do love it. So far, I pretty much only use Silhouette for rhinestone templates. I haven't taken the time to figure the rest of it out yet, but the rhinestone feature is not at all difficult to use. Once I learn how to use its over features, I probably won't have to rely on Inkscape anymore. I also have Sure Cuts a Lot from years ago, but I use Silhouette most of the time for rhinestone templates since it has the linear and radial options. Thanks so much for watching Sharon!!!
Hi Marilyn. I am so glad I found you. You explain very well and simple. One question.. To make faux rhinestones, all I have to do is just print the template I created using vinyl?
Thank you so much Rosie!!! Yes you can use rhinestone templates as faux rhinestones, but you would need to mirror it if it is the typical htv that comes on a carrier sheet. Also, some multi-layer rhinestone designs don't look great as faux rhinestones if the layers are designed to be super close together, but many look great! I love the look of holographic sparkle vinyl as faux rhinestones.
Great video! I don't have Silhouette Business yet, but I’ll put it on my birthday wish list. I’m currently using Sure Cuts A Lot to make my rhinestone designs. Do you recommend using one program over the other?
The main thing that I like from Silhouette over Sure Cuts a Lot is having the radial and linear options. I haven't used Sure Cuts a Lot for awhile, but I don't think it had both of those options. If it does, let me know and I might experiment more with it:) Thanks so much for watching!!!
Hi Marilyn. Thank you sooo very much for doing this tutorial. I have a question, can I use HTV Flock as a rhinestone template? I do not live in the USA, and so those materials are not easily accessible to me. I am going try a small section on the HTV Flock that I have, but I just wanted to know your thoughts on using it, to see if I'm in the right direction. I have been researching to see if others have done it, but I'm only seeing whereby people are using 'rhinestone flock'. They didn't mention 'HTV Flock'. I have a silhouette cameo, with business edition...I wait about 10 months for it go on sale so I could afford it 😂 checking the website twice per week. God answered my prayer. Amen. 😂
I've never tried the HTV Flock for rhinestones, but like you said, I would try some small rhinestone sized holes in a small piece of it to see if it works. Let us know what you find out. And, thanks so much for watching!
@MakingwithMarilyn Hi Ma'am, I'm sorry, I didn't realize you had replied. Thanks alot for responding. I'm going to try it out today. Was down with the flu
@MakingwithMarilyn Hi Marilyn I'm back 🤭 So, I tried it on Siser HTV Flock, - I didn't realize silhoutte studio has a Rhinestone Material setting - so that is what I used but i had to turned down the dept to 4 and the force to about 22 and the pass to 1. I also tried it on 65lb cardstock paper and it came out pretty clean as well. I want to mention that, instead of using low tack transfer tape, I used white painters tape (I had a roll from the dollar store) to remove the excess from the holes. Then i was able to just tap out the remaining. Visually from what i see online, I think the rhinestone flock has a higher pile stock than regular htv rhinestone. Ya, just wanted to let you know I tried 'em out.
I have never used an explorer, but to cut rhinestone flock with my Cricut Maker, I use a cut setting of 340 pressure, single cut. I remove the backing from my flock in order to cut it. Some people leave the backing on, which could require a different setting. Thanks for watching!
@@erickabradshaw you will set up a custom cut setting. Here is a good video that shows how to set up new material with custom cut settings. ruclips.net/video/Qekzhp7S5aw/видео.html
Hi Marilyn, i’m using silhouette for my rhinestone designs. I had a name spelled out and had to fix certain parts after releasing the rhinestones. The problem is when I click make compact path to group them together some of the circles either shift or are gone completely. Not sure what happens but it’s driving me crazy!!!
I have had that exact problem, especially the circles disappearing. So, then I learned that if I used the following process, it did not happen. Release all of the rhinestones in your design after you have fixed the letters you want to fix, then group all of the stones together, and then after that, select all the stones again and make your design a compound path. I think I showed that process during this video. After you have tried this, let me know if it fixed your issue. Thanks!
Yes, small text is very difficult to work with, especially if you are not using a single line font which would give you only one row of stones. Even then 2 inches by 5 inches is small if you have very many letters you are trying to fit into it.
You can cut on rhinestone flock or some people use glitter cardstock. I have a lot of videos about doing rhinestones, so you could check them out for general information. Thanks so much for watching.
Cricut Design Space does not have a rhinestone tool. The only way to do it would be to place each and every circle where you want it in order to make your word or shape. It could be done, but it would take a very, very long time to make each template. I wish there was a rhinestone tool in Cricut since that is the machine I cut with. Thanks so much for watching!
Once you make a rhinestone design, it must stay at that size so that the holes are the correct size for your stones. If you want to be able to have different sizes of designs, you will have to make them each from scratch.
Queen M I'm trying to design in silhouette rhinestone template when I get to the end to save when I go to make compound path the some stones delete and some shift out of place what am I doing wrong try 3x same results 😭
Here is what I do Lynetta. Once I am happy with everything, I make sure I have released all of the rhinestones in the rhinestone feature. Then I select them all and group them. Then after that, then I use the "make compound path" function. Please let me know if this works for you. I remember having that same thing happen and I really didn't know why, but this is what I have been doing and it works.
Sorry, can i ask how do you move your rhinestones? I released rhinestones but then it wouldn't let me put the rhinestone to wherever i want it to be place l, its like it's only going to a specific place, i dont know if I'm making sense right now.😓
It sounds like you have some type of snapping to grid setting on if it is trying to move to a particular place. Go to "view" and see if any "snap" functions are on. If they are, you could try to turn them off and see if that helps. That's the only thing I can think of that would cause your issue. Let me know if you still have the issue after looking into that, please.
I have an affiliate link for Swing Away, which is where I purchased my software. You could download the FREE version of Silhouette first just to make sure it works well on your computer. It does not include the rhinestone template, but would at least let you see the software. Then, if it works fine on your computer, you could go back to swing design and purchase the upgrade.
