He became the next level from the Chicago great Ernie Allen who is the late Bishop Campbell nephew. I was around when the torch was passed from Ernie to Rod then you have Jason Tyson who though he was a prodigy by like 12-13 years of age was the musical younger brother to Rod. I was graced by God to be around at a mega great musical time in Chicago ❤. My favorite 2 are Rod and Jason. They just special and they are both Masters with no equals.
Miles Davis used to say "In music, silence is more important than sound." I think Rodney East knows how to paint his music around the slient space. Miles also used to say "You have to know 400 notes that you can play, then pick the right four." Bro Rodney does this exceptionally well
I'm proud to say Rodney is my fellow Hyde Park H.S. classmate (I'm c/o '90 and he's c/o '91). He consistently delivers with a level of perfection. Very smooth and fluid.
Wow what a description it makes perfect sense brother THIS IS A WORKSHOP 101 he came for a recording in South Africa as an MD alongside Calvin Rodgers and Jason Tyson WORLD CLASS PRODUCER right here
One thing about Rodney ...he has mastered the art of connecting with the Piano ....when that guy plays his piano speaks to your soul man ...i normally have a playlist of his videos where i just listen and have a lil worship moment by just listening to his piano...🙌🙌🙌
Rodney is always my goat, but in this video, Titus is the goat…Titus did take the music home here, definitely that’s why he was given the final slot according to script, had lots of crazy stuff good on while maintaining the melody of the song …that was really something bro
I'm a fanboy too, I feel his name is mentioned enough. I think what makes him you unique from others is that he plays pocket with no band, keeping it simple and he adds flashes of wonder.
One time he came to a college in the Central New York area with Marvin Sapp and the backline brought a Casio! Rodney made that Casio sound like a Nord lol! 😬
Rodney definitely has an amazing touch of just about any keyboardist I've heard. Cory Henry is still the GOAT to me......but Rodney is a close 2nd.....
*Ezra already started simple so the organ coming in a little stronger helped build up how Ezra started, the contrast between them is what made it work, atleast to me.*
Amen brother. Too many of the new school players give all up right away. too many aultered chords together long runs and riffs too loud and prideful. When they should strat simple much like the original song and play the melody and play less. I was just commenting on a gospel keyboard players who never stopped with the jazz chords, playing over the singers, speaker and band members in his own world. When I gave critsium people said I was hating becuase I didn't have a huge vocablory as he did when they were so far from the truth. He did all these high runs that were pearcing and didn't have meaning just licks. Most church players overplay and don't know that they do because it's trending but you don't hear Mike Bereal doing it! He gets in and out other than on the vamp or solo or feature. So I'm glad you spoke up on it.
Getting to that level 💯 is a beast mode. You are write with the thinking arrangement because it brings more by giving meaning and communication to the audience. Rod East your 🎉❤❤
Here's the difference... Rodney plays Gospel that the lay person can feel and enjoy, but gives enough that musicians and gospel players know HE'S THAT GUY..... 99.9999% of other piano players think chords, reharm and wild jazz substitutions are it, when in fact they aren't.. you've just lost the audience. That's why he's the GOAT... making simplicity mind blowing is an art.

I totally agree
💯
Thanks for sharing, I'm definitely applying this during the service this weekend
Sweet! ✊🏾

Thank you for sharing Sir🙏🏽
No problem!
AND ANOTHER THANG!.....I learned this from you my dude....sound selection is crucial.
Thanks man! Yeah sounds play a huge role! ✊🏾
I'm a fanboy too, I feel his name is mentioned enough. I think what makes him you unique from others is that he plays pocket with no band, keeping it simple and he adds flashes of wonder.

Big East fr 🫡 ..great gems
This was a great video explaining why using different levels in arranging is key to a finished product! 👍🏾
Great video and analysis of Rodney - I really learned a lot here, especially starting with simplicity with the melody. Rodney is really the GOAT.
This is one of the best advice I’ve ever gotten. Thinking “arrangement” changes everything. Thanks for sharing this thought GOAT!
No problem ✊🏾! I’m glad the video was helpful! 🙏🏾
Rodney plays natural his touches are supernatural he is gifted menn
Rodney definitely has an amazing touch of just about any keyboardist I've heard.
Cory Henry is still the GOAT to me......but Rodney is a close 2nd.....
This is probably one of your most important videos
*Ezra already started simple so the organ coming in a little stronger helped build up how Ezra started, the contrast between them is what made it work, atleast to me.*
Rodney is truly the man😭😭😭😭
And the fact that most of his chords and movements are diatonic but the placement is what makes it stand out
Placement is what separates the boys from the men! 🙏🏾 💯
Very very excellent analysis! God bless you man!
Thanks, you too!

Yes Rodney the GOAT but you’re the GOAT when it comes to teaching. The way you break things down is a gift! 😊👏🏾🙏🏾🔥🇬🇧
Wow thanks man! Blessings to you! 🙏🏾

6:25 yoooooo 😮🔥👀
Yeah that section is amazing! 💯 🔥
I love all the songs where Rodney made music for in Revival Music. So if you plays piano there’s no way stops trying to copying him movements
Ooo have learned to know the difference thank you
Respect!
He Is also a mentor
The second organist sound like Kevin Powell…
Those chord movements were crazy! 🔥
Rodney east is not about dirty chords or scales
He is very simple in play
That second guy started his run on the major 7 of the 1 even though he was doing a 2-5-1 ....which should imply a b7.
🥂
Man this is teaching! What piano sample are you using?
Thanks! The Piano sound I used in this video is Addictive Keys Upright! It's on sale right now for $40! guitar-center.pxf.io/m51Dkq
Rodney East is one of my favorites ❤️❤️
Almost sounds like something Take 6 would do.

lol you said it WAY BETTER THAN ME! I agree 💯
What kind of piano sound is that? It sounds like a real piano
Rodney is the GOAT 🐐 for me too
Too many people try to play all these fancy chords that now goats are simple players 😅😅😅. I think Justin Lee Schultz is the goat and he's 16.
I guess if one is marginal in their ability then they would consider mediocre playing as GOAT.
But i think you the goat 😂
I appreciate you T lol! ✊🏾
It's ART. MIKE BEREAL JASON TYSON EDDIE BROWN. ETC.. BUT RODNEY IS SUPER COLDDDD!!
