Just had my bike serviced and the dealer let me out on the R1200RT and K1600GT for a couple of hours. The R12RT (2010 onwards) is a great bike, the new engine is punchy, it just does everything better, has ESA, cruise control, heated seats etc. After the R11RT you will feel at home straight away. The K1600- effortless to ride, epic sound. Love it. Just don't park nose in on a camber! The fairing also wasn't as good as the RT's. If you can get a ride on a R12 you won't be disappointed.
Got one of these bikes last November with 37k on the clock. Nice soft state of tune that inspires confidence and then leaves you looking for a bit more poke as that confidence grows. Dead easy to ride, an awesome bike. Looking forward to trying the R1200RT someday.
Thank you for sharing this ride. I just got a r1100rt, but live in Holland, where we ride on the right side of the road ;-) This cockpit view is an eye-opener for riding in left-side riding countries! Thanks!
Beautiful bike, beautiful ride. I picked up my '96 a couple of weeks ago and was looking to install a permanent GoPro mount, but this looks like being a better option.
scarybaldguy Hi, thanks for your comment. I stuck the curved mount straight onto the chin part of my shoei helmet. I think it gives a better riders eye perspective as well as being more inconspicuous than mounting it on the side or top. Happy riding :-)
good one I go up and dawn that road a lot dawn the m11i miss the model shop wot was therr I go up and dawn therr on my Suzuki bandit 600n but I may be looking at a BMW 1100RT soon thay look cool bikes
Hi Gary. I've moved from Trumpington since then, so much has changed, we used to live in the road what was next to the old Esso petrol station. Considering it's age the RT is still a good bike and handles and feels a lot lighter than you think. And I reckon older BM's just seem more solid and better put together than later versions, and I still think it looks pretty good too.
Nice ride...fun to go along w/you...I like those R bikes a lot...had a K100rt back in early '90s - was a great bike just wasn't a good choice for me. By "chin mount" I assume the camera is attached to the lower front middle of the helmet? If so why would you not mount it on the side of the helmet...just wondering. thumbs up and good riding.
51Dss Hi, weird I tried to- but couldn't reply before! I had a k75s for 5 years before getting my bike, and do miss the sound and smoothness of the k bikes. Would love a K1600GT, but that thats not going to happen anytime soon! I put the mount on the mid- chin part of the helmet as it gives a better riders eye perspective than the side as well as being less conspicuous. Safe riding :-)

Hi Felix, thank you for your message. I hope you are happy with your bike. I have ridden mine in France and can say I'm happy whatever side I ride on!
I like that gear noise in 1st and 2nd gear, mine has it too...
Mine as well!
I have the same bike in Red. It's a 2000.
It will never be for sale as long as I can still ride it.
Free American I also have a red 2000.... and agreed to never part with it! Best bike I have owned in 30 years of riding.
Very nice Vid... I like the way you ride... Thanks, Gordon
watching it in silent mode and playing "Jimi Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower" on the background..... relax..... haha

The mounting gives a very nice view ! Note to self: must clean the screen on my R850RT ...

hello from Greece. could you write about your windscreen? thanks
At 5-44 when you stopped to allow that car through I would've run a screwdriver down the side of every car to my left blocking the street
I'd insert that driver where the sun don't shine and used you as a popsicle!
