She refused to marry a guy who wasn't right for her just for his riches, she refused to live off a mans money anymore. She didn't give into societal norms (marrying someone just because she was pregnant with his child) and she worked her way up the career ladder despite starting off with nothing. She really came a long way and that was one of the many reasons - aside from having great hair - why so many women liked her character.

This was why I didn't like Ross, he was always whining about shit. Yes Rachel's a whiner too but we see how much she has grown over the years. She was always a powerful woman even in school, but she became her own woman the moment she ran away from home and her wedding.
Yes Ross was always there to see her progress, but most of the time their relationship wasn't stable because they didn't treat each other as equals. Why? Because Ross was paleontologist while Rachel served coffee, or was a secretary, or did fashion.
It's not like how she was with Joey. That relationship was more balanced.
Even though Ross was supposedly smart, he had a lot of growing to do, something Rachel was already ahead of him.
His insecurities were projected onto her and it was extremely shitty of him to try to not get an anullment when he and Rachel both drunk married each other, just because he would become divorced 3 times after that. Yes it's sad, but you don't just put somebody else's life on hold just to make you feel better about your life. That isn't cool man.

One of his biggest problems is that he can never get over his pride, at least not until it’s too late. Remember when he moved into his apartment building and refused to pay the money. He shouldn’t have had to give 100 dollars to someone he didn’t know but he should’ve made a compromise like chipping into the party where he would get to know his neighbors and get on their good side or just give the man half of the hundred. 50 bucks isn’t a lot of money for him especially if it helps him in the long run. Instead he spent more than he was asked to give on another party to be petty and it heavily backfired.

Rachel is NOT a feminist icon. She always got bratty and rude whenever Ross had girlfriends. Not that Ross is a good person either but his girlfriends were for the most part normal people and Rachel was always rude to them. I wouldn't call a feminist a woman who puts other women down because they're dating her ex.
