    Am curious though... why the need for positive and negative poles when after ionising, the molecules are mainly positively charged?

    Sir why we need to separate based on the charge if they are all positive after ionization?

    How are the anions produced ? ( You have said in your previous videos that only cations are produced ?

    • @shamthorani464
      @shamthorani464 7 лет назад

      Angshu Dutta if talking about mass spec, only number of the electrons change.. if you want an anion then you will have to change the number of protons what in this case doesn't happen.

      The anions are not accelerated into the mass analyzer... Those statements of his are very deceptive.

    This is not an exact explanation for quadrupole analyzer. Along with the Radiofrequency(AC), DC voltage is also applied to the rods. They act simultaneously.The potential generated on a rod is (U+V cos wt). Where U is DC and V is alternating current.And what about this bombarding? Fragmentation only occurs using a CAD or EAD.Quadrupole analyzer also having some limitations because of which Linear ion trap or an orbitrap analyser is introduced..
    Kindly mention from where you have got those information. This explanation should be more specific.

    Sir, In the 1st video of Mass spec, u told that only +vely charged molecular ions produced. U didn't mentioned anything about the -vely charged mol ions.
    How these -vely charged molecular ions produced ?

    It is Quadrupole, as there are four poles. You have repeatedly said 'quadruple' which is totally a wrong word. Quadruple means four times. You should be very much careful when you teach mass spectrometry.
    All the best! Professor Purushottam Chakraborty
