Your channel and the guy playing wayfaring stranger on a telescopic whistle are the causes for me planning to learn to play the blues on the tin whistle.
Bless you, I will definitely film it next time I’m playing live. If that I did do a performance recently that I’m still waiting to get the video back from as someone else recorded it. :)
This was a bit above me, I dont normally go into playing anything on a whistle other than the key the whistle is in, but I do like the idea of playing blues on a whistle. There is not enough of this kind of thing on the tube, any whistle stuff all tends to be irish which I mostly dont like because it all sounds the same with far too much ornamentation. The whistles I like to play are the Bb, A, G and F and most of those I play are home made and I do like the idea of playing blues on them so keep posting these vids.
Do you use half-holing to get chromatic notes? Also, are there any particular Irish trad techniques that you use playing blues whistle? Thanks for the very informative videos!
Yes, I do use half holing for chromatic notes. I also like using rolls and cuts to accent notes - those are great ornaments from trad playing. Sliding from one note to the the next with a finger roll is great in blues and Trad both!
I love the way you play that Irish harmonica. Very inspiring. I bet you could play a double flageolet in that style.
