  • www.crosstraini... Is the Gopro Hyperview setting on Gopro 10 and 11 cameras a game changer for motorbike riders? Years ago, Gopro introduced 'Superview' in the Gopro 3 camera. It was brilliant for motorbike riders. Technically it is a 4:3 video that is stretched to 16:9. In practical terms, it means you see more of the top and bottom of the image. Need hard enduro training? Work through our video lists. This is great for motorbike videos for several reasons. You see more of the handlebars for a more immersive experience. Getting the correct camera angle is not so critical. And finally, it contributes to a smoother visual experience. The main negative? The edges of the video image are highly compressed so objects like trees appear to be bent at the edges of the screen. This is barely noticeable for action shots. But for still shots you should select another camera angle. Gopro took this a step further with the Gopro 11 and 12 cameras. 'Hyperview' is like the old Superview on steroids. Technically the larger sensor is fully used to film at an 8:7 aspect. It is then digitally manipulated to 16:9. In practical terms, it means an even taller image. You can capture not only the handlebars, but more of the motorbike in each shot. Hard enduro techniques are covered in our training vids. It feels even more immersive. Extra advantages? Try our training vids for working on your extreme enduro techniques. Action cams are notoriously bad for making the speed look slower than it actually was. But the extra wide angle of Hyperview seems to correct this. My personal view is it actually looks close to the real experience. Also, if you use the Dango chin bar mount which is removeable, you can hold it high in the air while riding and get more of a drone-like feel to your footage. Drawbacks? Ideally you need to keep other motorbikes roughly in the centre of the screen. Hard enduro techniques are covered in our training vids. Into enduro and dirt bikes? Check out our dirt bike videos. There is so much bending at the far left and right that things get distorted. Also Hyperview is only available in certain resolutions and frame-rates because it needs to use the entire sensor. If you always use higher resolutions, there is no problem. But I have always just filmed at 1080p and 30 frames per second because my laptop can edit this easily. Also batteries last a lot longer. Our dirt riding tips are great for developing your hard enduro skills. If you want extreme enduro training see our playlists of enduro skills to learn. And finally I don't need a lot of storage for old footage. But I love the Hyperview setting so I will probably need to replace my old laptop when it bursts into flames trying to process these bigger files. Gopro cameras have certainly had their issues over the years. And at various points I think their competition were actually creating better cameras. But for motorbike riders, I think Hyperview is just one of several features that clearly puts Gopro at the top of the heap again in recent years. Have you used it? What do you think? Have you found a similar setting on other brands of camera? Let us know in the comments. Extreme enduro training vids are our focus. If you are enduro riding get into our enduro training vids.

I used Hyperview a couple times when I first got the Hero 11. My viewers complained about it right away. The wider POV is good in a way but also gives it a weird 360 camera feel and makes your front fender look long and pointy like the DJI camera also does. I'll say the GoPro is probably the best action cam when you film in ideal conditions but when you use it in low light conditions it is absolute garbage because the stabilization doesn't work properly, this is where the DJI is way ahead.

Moved to the DJI Action 4, no overheating, no lockups, good battery, pairs easy with the wireless mic 2 and no strange problems , it just always works. Will never buy another Gopro.

I’m currently using the GoPro 9 on 1080x30 like you to keep the battery consumption and memory card in their prime. Can record a descent amount of a ride on one battery and don’t have a problem as long as I remember to delete old footage before each ride. It took too long for GoPro to make the 9 stable from when I first got it, and the lower resolution and frame rate is one of the keys to keeping it from overheating and switching off or faulting mid ride. Overall GoPro have dropped from a 10/10 to a 6/10 because their features don’t work well or they don’t work at all when you utilise a sensible resolution and frame rate.

If they could only fix the way the image flattens out steep hills...😉 I'm still on the gopro 8 cause I'm too cheap to upgrade. I have mixed feelings on hyperview. I really notice the distortion and for me it detracts heavily from the experience. The distortion gets to be bad enough, that I've actually been to locations where people have filmed, and I didn't recognize the actual location when comparing it with the previously viewed video. I think I prefer superview after watching many hyperview videos. Of course, taller people such as yourself will have a harder time keeping the bars in the frame unless you use a chest mount. But I don't like chest mount cameras. Chin mount is my preference.

After being with gopros + dingo mount for many years, I switched to a DJI Action 2, which also has a very wide angle (155° FOV). the dingo mount tends to move or even fall down on jumps or big impacts and that's partly due to the increasing weights of the gopros. the DJI action 2 is 50g only (vs 150g for the gopro) and thanks to it magnet system, it's not going anywhere. It feels so much lighter when moving my head around. Cons: the image quality is not as good as the go pro and the battery + storage are also pretty short (but you can easily carry the second charging cube with extra storage during your rides)

My new Hero 11 is an upgrade from the Hero 5 that now resides in the middle of the Wyong River after I dropped it in 1.4 mtrs of water. Can’t find it despite scuba diving for 2 hrs in the exact gps spot where it went . The 11 is much better in my opinion, it was very noticeable in Hyperview 5.3 K

I believe the most realistic way to watch video on a 50" TV is by putting your eyes about 12 to 20 inches from the screen.
The trick is to match the field of view of your eyeballs with the fov the video was recorded in. Which with GoPro is pretty wide, so on order to match that you basically have to put your nose on the big screen!
Basically the screen has to take up nearly the entire fov of your eyes.
This view is more realistic than watching from 10 feet away on the couch like most of us do, and it likely isn't most people favorite way to watch, but I do believe it best mimics the tall experience as it happened.

recently tried to use my 1 gen sony, which I guess is from 2012. Found that if I shoot vertical video, I can see footpegs and where I'm going simultaneously. Good for body position analyzing.

Have you tried insta360? I use insta360 one rs under my helmet visor, it gives me the ability to focus on what I want on a 270º (because the helmet it's on the way of looking back) so I actually don't use the 360º of the camera, but it works like a charms since insta360 studio let's you decide wich aspect ratio you want, zoom and different focus

Completely off topic but I've noticed you no longer use the clake 2 and are now running the clake one light. Did you go off the clake 2?

I bought a new bike and couldn't get it work properly due to my hopeless mechanical skills lol. The Clake guys were very supportive over the phone but with no luck so eventually I sold it.

@@destryrobinson3708 I do mean the person shooting the video should have it higher. I see loads of off-road videos where the camera is pointing down at the front mudguard.

I find that a good way to get more of the bike in the shot is to have poor riding skills. That way you're picking it up and dragging/pushing it more of the time, instead of being on it 🤣

I’ve seen people rotate the camera 90 degrees and film. The view is much better in my opinion.

Another positive of the Dango Designs chin mount is that it has a spring loaded indexing arm so you can go from regular to upside down (slightly lower perspective) to portrait between recordings.

Since the 9 came out Ive used the lens mod.
Now that the lens mod 2.0 came out on the 12 I use it with Hyperview.
