It's a crying shame Johnsons are gone. I have 3, a 50, a 70 and a 150. Love them all. Best outboards ever made in my opinion

I had a 1978 70 evinrude in the 80's and used it about 8-900 fishing days with zero problems. Now I have the same one and it's such a reliable strong outboard, like old times, ha !

I had an early 70s Johnson 65 3 cylinder with electronic shift lower unit I bought in the mid 90s . I put it on a heavy deep v 17ft crestliner. Full of people and gear it averaged around 40 mph and decent on fuel. I always ran it hard for years and ran into only 1 problem , had to replace the starter. Best all around engine I’ve ever owned and I wish I never sold it

I have the same motor but why is mine doesn’t accelerate on full throttle? Same speed half throttle and full throttle. Seems like something is blocking when in the water.

My 16' runabout with an older Johnson 70 with carburetors will run in the mid to upper 30's with a 13-1/4 x 17 pitch prop . He has a slightly smaller prop but same pitch and fuel injection so I'm guessing it hits 40 mph easy.
