I'm 53 and never though I would learn this stuff at this stage in my life, I've been putting this aside for years. I thank you as your method and exercises make it a lot easier for me.
Thanks for watching Diego. What you are seeing on the you tube videos is pretty much how the website works. Step by step from one level to the next. Thanks again.
I know a lot of music theory and practical application, but not sight reading. Your advice to approach it from a purely rhythmic standpoint to begin with was singularly helpful. Seriously, I can't thank you enough!!
Thanks for taking the time to do this. Sadly, too many of us guitarists become reliant on guitar tablature. These exercises will provide an avenue for improving sight-reading. Best wishes.
The way you combine the sight-reading with the sound of the guitar, so you can see what it's supposed to sound like while you read, is a great help. I've gone through William Leavitt's book One, but find I need constant practice to keep up my sight-reading abilities. I stumbled on your site and have found even the first lesson helpful. I'll give your lessons a try. Thanks for making this available.
lol I did the whole thing on the guitar while counting out on the first round. I surprised myself because I didn't think I knew this stuff. Upped the speed to 2x and rocked it! Love this, gonna see if there is something with some eight notes to mess me up good!
As someone who already knows how to read music and is just learning a new instrument, I figured I’d brush up on the basics of music. Turns out I try to speed since I’m so used to cut-time and 2 or 3/4 so.. good to know that lol
thank you very much ive been around a year and a half self-taught playing guitar and early this year electric guitar, i knew tabs but never sheet music--when i was younger(i am a teenager) i played piano but my brain could not get itself to try and learn proper sheet music. i play guitar as a hobby and want to start a garage band with a friend of mine soon. i want to be ready when the time comes that we only have sheet music available for live reading there's this really cool 7 minute animated video that refreshed and cleared up anew my long-in-the-past musical artistic stuff knowledge from grade school. found this channel jus now and i already love it the narrator makes it simple and easy to follow
I wish I had applied myself to some sort of structured guitar learning like this when I was your age. It's not easier when you finally get around to it when you're in your 60s.
Hi. When picking single notes the most important thing to alternate up and down strokes. The count doesn't matter. I do have exercises for strumming in another section. When strumming quarter and 8 notes it's important to play down strokes on the count and up strokes on the &. Hope this helps. Thanks.
I'm loving this series. Its helping me alot with learning how to read and transfer the notes on the page to my fingers on the frets. Is there a pdf file or something where I can print the sheet music out? I can't seem to find it.
love so much this video. like the video is the best. As we develop day by day, Always follow your luck I sincerely hope that your channel will be very big. 좋은영상 감사히 잘 보고갑니다. 하루하루노력하셔서 점점 발전되시어 초대형유투버가 되시기를 진심으로 힘껏 응원 하겠습니다.
Yes you can. This exercise is the first in a series of drills designed to help the student master the first position on the neck. That would limit this E note to the first string.
At last a youtube video which relates sheet music notation to the guitar. I still play Saxophone from sheet music used to play the piano again from sheet music. Hence I was looking for lessons which relate sheet music to the guitar. I do not wish to learn guitar tab notation.
Hi. I think you are referring to the tapping of the pencil on the counts of the sheet music. The first part of this exercise requires you to tap your pencil on counts 1,2,3,4 and lifting the pencil on the and of those counts. When playing the notes it's best to alternate up and down strokes for efficiency. You can begin the exercise with an up or down stroke as long as you alternate. All of this is different from a previous video I made about strumming. When strumming I like to use down strums on the counts and up strums on the up beats. That's a totally different topic. Thanks for watching!
On the website the pre-requisite for sight reading is levels 1-20 in Beginner I. If you have completed that then you will understand how to count quarter and 8th notes. Thanks!
This is wrong in two ways: First, luckily not every acid dealer gets caught. Second, that's not how you tune a guitar. It's EADGBE. You probably read "Every Acid Dealer Gets Busted Eventually" or something like that.
Hi Patrick. Yes, this exercise is all about learning how to play quarter and 8th notes. Note recognition comes later. The exercises get progressively more challenging as you make your way through our sight reading course on the website. Thanks!

These videos are so underrated which are very essential. Often I just find videos that teach chords blandly .Thanks
I was looking for that one video for three years now. Thank you so much!

Thank you!!!! Thank you! This is perfect exactly what I needed for my theory, I struggle to read music, this'll help me crush it!
great for beginners! thank you for making this basic guide for us who cannot read sheet music :)
Glad to help. Thanks for watching!

Good Work sir..!!Very Much helpful..!!
Thanks for watching Ashok!
Hey all, how do we know which E to use? I know in the video they used the e on the first string but what if it is meant for something lower in octaves
Hi Joseph. The other octaves are covered in later videos. This video focuses mainly on reading rhythm using the first e string.
@@LevelsForGuitar Hey :D, thank you, I will check those out
WOOP LETS GO BROOOO
What is the software you are using here?
Guitar Pro. It looks and sounds much better in my updated videos.
Is it alright to play this on the 9th fret of the third string, or fifth fret of the second string? Does it have to be the open first string?
Yes you can. This exercise is the first in a series of drills designed to help the student master the first position on the neck. That would limit this E note to the first string.
At last a youtube video which relates sheet music notation to the guitar.

Upstrokes on the and? I only ask as it looks different on the last segment with the video footage, thanks

You're welcome.
You did not explain that & means hit the note twice as fast or how to read an up and down pluck.
On the website the pre-requisite for sight reading is levels 1-20 in Beginner I. If you have completed that then you will understand how to count quarter and 8th notes. Thanks!
Simple to understand.. probably start with explaining the time signature and the bar concepts
Hey Dan. Thanks for watching. Here is a video I made just for that. ruclips.net/video/HzeA6Y-fCbU/видео.html Hope this helps.
Thank you for checking out the video and sharing your thoughts :)
I made a video talking about sight reading in general and what you can do to improve it if anybody's interested.
Hello I'm new here
I know right
frm my side diz 1 is awesome,,,, ahh'' ""sorry""sorry"" i minn,,,, ""perfect"" method,,,,
Now people won’t make fun of me for not knowing how to play sheet music yay
E: every
A: acid
D: dealer
G: gets
C: caught
E: Eventually
Haha I found this in comments a few days ago 😂
Shouldn't the C be B?
This is wrong in two ways: First, luckily not every acid dealer gets caught. Second, that's not how you tune a guitar. It's EADGBE. You probably read "Every Acid Dealer Gets Busted Eventually" or something like that.
Lol ed ate dynamite good bye ed lol that's good
*why am I watching this,... I don’t even have a guitar.*
It's like a love story, without the love story. Ha.
You may have a inner desire to play.
"1 & 2 & 3.. 4"
This isnt so hard to read and all i needed to figure out was how to read the rhythms
Hi Patrick. Yes, this exercise is all about learning how to play quarter and 8th notes. Note recognition comes later. The exercises get progressively more challenging as you make your way through our sight reading course on the website. Thanks!
Well over my head, unfortunately
