  • There once was a man who ran away from God, who wouldn’t do what God wanted. God gave him a message to deliver, but Jonah would rather see people destroyed. Join John Bradshaw in “Great Characters of the Bible: Jonah” to learn more about the warning God sent to the people of Nineveh and the message of mercy He would have you share today.

    Appreciated the timely reminders that God may place us somewhere we don’t necessarily want to go and that wherever the gospel is preached people will respond

    Daily spiritual warfare prayer:
    I humbly pray your will Father, God, according to:
    Ephesians 6:11b-12; that we may be able to stand/bind/pulling down the strongholds against the lies of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but bind/pulling down strongholds against principalities, bind/pulling down strongholds against powers, bind/pulling down strongholds against the rulers of the darkness of this world, bind/pulling down strongholds against spiritual wickedness in high places. I stand firm on the promises written abiding in you word, for without you I can do nothing, however, I have Faith believing with you the impossible can be done, Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ! We overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
    I loose the healing by the stripes of the Anointed Savior! I pray by the power and authority of your Son’s exalted name in heaven, on earth,and under the earth, above every other name must Obey Confessing and bowing every knee to our Lord our Righteousness Yeshua Mashiach (Jesus Christ) to the glory of God! Let it be so with thanksgiving to our Heavenly Father God! So be it! Amen!

    Mr. Bradshaw, thanks for your lively presentation. Can I ask a question? Why do you think the king of Nineveh didn't ask for a face-to-face meeting with Jonah?

    • @johnbuchan3678
      @johnbuchan3678 3 года назад

      Brother Bradshaw, are you open to a rather different take? That the king couldn’t summon Jonah because Jonah had "vanished" by hiding in total isolation somewhere in Nineveh. (At Jericho, God told Joshua to march over a period of seven days. But God told Jonah to proclaim, “In just 40 days more Nineveh will be overthrown.” That message was valid for only one day, because if there had been a second day of preaching the “40” would have had to change to “39.”) To the superstitious Ninevites, this stunning message by a lone, courageous, Hebrew-speaking prophet who "vanished" after his day of preaching was completely effective. Jonah keeping himself isolated from the Ninevites until he left the city at vs. 4:5 can also explain why Jonah hadn’t realized that the Ninevites had repented. How does that sound?

      Most people are afraid or just hate prophets

      Mr. Bradshaw, thanks for kindly replying. Are you willing to consider a different reason? That the king couldn’t summon Jonah because Jonah had "vanished" by hiding in total isolation somewhere in Nineveh. (At Jericho, God told Joshua to march over a period of seven days. But at Nineveh, God told Jonah to proclaim, “In just 40 days more Nineveh will be overthrown.” That message could only be preached for one day, because if there had been a second day the “40” would have had to change to “39.”) To the superstitious Ninevites, I think this stunning message by a lone, courageous, Hebrew-speaking prophet who "vanished" after only one day of preaching was completely effective. Jonah keeping himself isolated from the Ninevites until he left the city at verse 4:5 can also explain why Jonah never realized that the Ninevites had repented. (At verse 3:10, God recognized that the Ninevites had repented. But I'm not aware of any indication in this Book that Jonah ever realized that the Ninevites had repented.) How does that sound?

    Jonah disobeyed, God caused a storm causing the whale, that means God put him in a precarious situation just to save him. What did niniva do to make him hate them? Sounds hurt to me but its all about the head count in "Christians minds". He didn't make everyone to be the social butterflies.
    What was Jonahs reward?
