The tenor line is sublime. I sang this with 600 high schoolers at the Montreat music conference the summer of 1969. It still echoes in my mind at Christmas.
So wonderful to hear this song again. I have sung it for fifty years and now having lost my voice and choir director haven't heard it for a number of years. We can't possibly loose these jewels to humanity. How important to keep them going.

Lovely version. One of my favorites
Lots of folks do not really see or hear the classics like this one. I sang it eons ago and last night my weak mind rediscovered it ---I recalled the title. These "old" composers knew how to find melodies, yes! I just read about the "star of Jacob mentioned in the Bible...check it out in the book of Numbers, O.T.---intriguing. It is kind of hard to mess up these masterpieces. I wonder how long it took Mendelssohn to write it. Supposedly Handel took 26 days to write the Messiah, all parts....without an eraser. And, it took the 1812 composer took about six weeks....yikes, all those orchestra parts. I hope that both composers stopped to eat. Supposedly Handel wrote the Messiah in some physically tough times for him health-wise.?? m
