I just attended my first consultation appointment with this doctor. He is very kind and listened to all my concerns. Soon, in August, I am going to have my first surgery. I hope I will get better results after that. Right now, I am very satisfied after my first appointment with him last week. I am from Wisconsin and I am going to considering long travel only because I trust on him and I know I will be in good hands even after my bypass surgery.
Thank you so much for this detailed look! I had my bypass surgery 3 weeks ago and I find it fascinating to watch the process and be able to picture what was done.
I’m in the UK. Dr P you are my voice of reason, my security blanket. You may not read this but this woman 4 days po loves your explanations, you keep me sane.
Could you talk more about revision sleeve to gastric bypass? Maybe explain more about the surgery.? Even though you don’t perform this particular surgery, a lot of people are going to have it done mainly because of Gerd. And there’s a lot of complications. I’m seeing on Facebook groups of revision surgeries there needs to be some light shed on the surgery because all they tell you is, it’s a little more complicated they don’t tell you the horrible things that can happen to you if you have it done.
This was so interesting! You explained everything so well. I haven't seen any other video like it. I was always turned off having this done, but I think I will definitely consider this procedure if GP agrees. Thank you.
Wow....I know you have had practice, but boy, oh boy, are you smooth with those instruments! I'm a gastric bypass patient and retired nurse. 1 1/2 yrs after my surgery (6 months ago) I have developed post perennial hypoglycemia. Thank God for your videos! Yes, my primary sent me to an endocrinologist and it was a total waste of time! I did get a 24 hr monitor that has saved me time and time again with BS dropping in the 40's. Still trying to figure it all out. Your videos have been so enlightening and informative! I can't thank you enough!
Amazing to watch. All I can say is I hope my surgeon did all of the preventive things that you did. I had a significant bleed after surgery that required a second 4 day hospital stay. Now three months later everything seems to be going well.
It's amazing that you can do all of those things in an hour and remember to close up all gaps. 😮 Thank you for giving us a glimpse of what it looks like. I'm in the process of lining everything up for a bypass next year. 🙏
Thank you sooo much Dr. I was fascinated to see how this works. I am having a procedure done in a few weeks. This helps calm some fears and give me some points for discussion with my team. Thanks again.❤
Hello Dr Pilcher, what a great video! I am looking for a surgeon and so I was wondering if you can tell me what I should be looking for in a surgeon? What are questions I should be asking? Thank you
A great question, and a challenge in a good way. I'd suggest a few: -who else does the doc consider to be on their team? (good answer would be a pretty long list) -how does doc help patients decide which surgery to have? and, what do they view as the balance of decision making between patient and surgeon? -what does surgeon recommend for follow up? (should be long term, and should be multidisciplinary
Most but not all hernias are easy to see during surgery. To be honest, the management of hernias during bariatric surgery can be very challenging. It is usually but not always best to repair the hernia during the bariatric operation; knowing which is which can be tricky.

So that's what my surgery looked like.
Something like that!
@DoctorJP I asked about having a video recording of my surgery after the fact and he told me he would have done that if I asked before hand...lol

How obvious are hernias if they're present but not found before surgery? Is it possible to miss them?

Amazing. Had this done last year so great to see what might have happened. Thanks
Thanks for watching, and best of luck on your journey!
So nice to see exactly what happens. Thank you.
Most welcome, and thanks for watching.
