    I remember my first Sprint: SoCal January 2018. Took me nearly 3 hours to complete. By the end, I hobbled my way back to my car, still muddy because I didn’t think to get a change of clothes. Changed my life forever...AROO

    After so many decades of training as a bodybuilder, wrestler, male exotic dancer, etc, I am wanting to get out of my comfort zone and do something I've always flirted with doing but never made it into fruition.

    You have to do the burpees even if your not racing in the competitive races?

    • @OCRKings
      @OCRKings  2 года назад

      The short answer is yes. The burpees penalty is less strictly enforced in the open non-competitive waves, it's more on the honor system, but they should be done upon non-completion of an obstacle.

  • @lean2281
    @lean2281 3 года назад +2

    How many chances do you get at an obstacle before you have to do the burpees ?

    • @OCRKings
      @OCRKings  3 года назад +1

      Good question! For the most part, it's one attempt only. Sometimes on the rope climb and the herc hoist you can get multiple tries, but for the rest you get one try and if you fail or skip then you have to do burpees.

  • @Vlabar

    • @OCRKings
      @OCRKings  Год назад

      Good luck at your first race, enjoy! As far as the spear, keep practicing. Line up your shot, take a breath, and take your time before throwing. Make sure the cord is on the target side, over the fence, so it doesn't get hung up (we see a lot of people step on the cord and ruin their throw). Either way, it's 50/50, you either hit or you miss, and it's no more burpees, just a penalty loop on a miss. AROO!

  • @miquemoua
    @miquemoua 2 года назад +1

    Are obstacle attempts unlimited or one fail is automatic burpees?

    • @OCRKings
      @OCRKings  2 года назад

      Great question! Typically it's one try and burpees on non-completion. One exception is the rope climb. Especially in open waves, you are allowed to make as many attempts climbing the rope as you want.

    With the sprint race should I use the water backpack or something else?

    • @OCRKings
      @OCRKings  Год назад

      You know your body and hydration needs best. If you need to run with a hydro bladder like a Camelbak, then go for it, especially if it's super hot and you know you need a lot of water when you run. For us, for a Sprint, we typically don't run with a hydro bladder. At most, we'll have a 12oz. Gatorade in on of the front pouches of the vests we run in, but that's just us. We typically have the vests on to carry all he spare batteries and whatnot, and not specifically for a bladder. But again, that's just us. If you need more hydration, definitely carry it and do what's right for you. If you want to go lighter, there are race belts out there that will carry up to 1L of water that might suffice. In case you're interested in that sort of thing, here is the belt I run with during road races: amzn.to/3K6rnW0 It's a good example of some of the options that Ultimate Direction has (the group who also makes the vests we run in).

The possibilities for wet and slippery obstacles? The slippery rope climb! The slippery Herc Hoist! The muddy grim covered cargo net A Frame! List goes on! Don't forget to point out to make sure rope/string that's attached to spear should be in front of fence and not tangled up prior to throwing the spear. How many times have ppl bonked on the spear throw for that!? Man! Not racing for almost a year at this point, sucks! I hoping for a better race season for 2021!
