@@simplebutnotsolongname6642 naw 99 was the game changer.... dude ranch only sold 40,000 albums the entire summer when it came out, it only charted at like #70 and only like 1 million to this day and it never would have sold 1 million if enema didn’t come out.. enema sold 100,000 the first week, it became a number 1 album and 15 million to this day. When enema came out they went from a cool small national band to super stars.
I disagree with what these douchy producers/ studio dudes say. Blinks sound at the beginning was raw, but already good. They made songs back then I'm still listening to now.
What the fuck! I hear different things on why Scott left. I heard that he was drinking too much alcohol on the roads and got kicked out. I've also heard that he left because of the other two thinking he didn't want to be in the band. This movie says he left because he wanted to continue on his studies.
ik this is old but i think the reason, i heard in urethra chronicles, it said that he left both for his future/studies and said something about alchohol as well.
When he mentioned that Green Day managed to stick together but they are not as popular/good as they once where, and i just said wait 2 years... just you wait 0:55:34
+PhyZiKs It was legit just one reason. He was a drunk, and they told him that he had to go to rehab. When he was pondering it, they had Travis fill in, and they booted Scott because Travis was better. It is true that Scott did not have the drive that the other two did, but make no mistake he is 100% NOT in Blink 182 because he was a drunk.
Man Overboard only told one side of the story (facetiously, imo) and not entirely all of it. To this day, Mark and Tom has danced around Scott’s departure and never made a Direct Statement about it for one reason or another. Scott turned to drinking to cope with internal conflicts within the band during the gruelling Sno’core 1998 Tour. Circa 2001 or so, He said he was given an Ultimatum, either quit drinking and stay, or quit and go to rehab; during the week of the break Blink had in June 1998. Scott agreed to get sober and stay; but they said Too bad, regardless of Scott’s query of what he could do to stay. He wasn’t given a chance nor a reason why. Lot’s of conflicting but prominent factors to the story, but the band never made it clear. Because of that and Man Overboard, The Narrative of Scott Being an irredeemable, dead-beat drunk who blew it, was perpetuated by Millions of fans and people who wanted the quick-easy answer to this mystery. That wasn’t true, and Scott apparently got sober not too long after that and is doing well for himself nowadays.
This just seems like a bunch of people that vaguely knew the band trying to act like they were much more relevant to their story than they actually were.
It always cracked me up how this cheap doco was just a thinly veiled promo trying to push Heavy Trevy who are the other band shown (and played) in the film LOL. Like it does not get any more one-hit wonder and they didn't even have a hit. High school band at best.
Tag guy talking at 56:26 was so right about them dying out soon, sure they broke up but even when they got back together they were huge. Plus this was right before their self entitled album
Thanks for uploading. But whats with all the random fades and jump cuts to the same green bass and sunburst explorer? And the decision to NOT use blinks music was a mistake
Just have another listen to the 2 most recent "+44 featuring the Sekret" albums if you don't think Tom was the true mastermind behind Blink 182's music.
Blink 182 blew up the bubble of mainstream pop-punk and like every trend in the mainstream it quiclkly burst and left a bunch of kids that were inspired to have fun,dye thier hair black and make it into a comb-forward.. ps. Green day and offspring brought punk from the underground to the alternative, blink brought it to the mainstream... Its frustrating now when you tell someone your into punk they think your into sum 41 and good charlotte etc... Thanks Blink 182....
virtue696 I don't really see your point. You might be right in some things but I don't really agree with the mainstream thing. I mean your totally right with Green Day and Offspring but in my view blink just interpreted the whole thing in another way. They did not take theirselves very seriously, made jokes at the expense of somebody else and just did what they wanted to do... I also would not say that they adapted to societal standards and values in any way. Of course they had and still have a big fan base but that is the same for Green Day. Also THEIR songs are on the radio sometimes. Especially on their new record Revolution Radio! So please don't get me wrong (I also know that your comment is already a bit older) and I don't want to be offensive or so at all, just wanted to say that I think that blink is the total opposite of mainstream for me PERSONALLY!!! Hope you can understand! Best wishes! :)
The funny thing is that blink became HUGE after this documentary. I mean, yeah they were already very big after TOYPAJ but the 2003 self titled.. it just catapulted the band so far... so far you know, it ended up destroying the band with the tour schedule, etc. Ultimately in the end they just couldn't handle all the success and Tom quit IMO for stupid reasons. It was more of an ego thing for me.. That's the vibe that I got. Mark has always been the most down to earth guy and reasonable.
It didn't come from anywhere tom literally just changed it like bands like sum 41 agent 51.. 98 mute.. old punk bands.. in 90s it was popular to put a letter or letters after ya band name in skate punk
They will never admit to it but in all honesty the 182 Fuck's in Scarface is the most logical source of the band name. Considering who they were at the time they changed the name it seems like something they would do. Plus, I am a firm believer that "difficult to believe" level coincidences don't really happen and this would be way up the ladder on the hard to believe scale.
a blink182 documentary without blink182 music is disapointing
***** Its not a authorized movie, so they can't use 182 music.
@@RaiseAllianceIIRather just not use any music at all instead of the try-hard BS this docu uses😂
lol
@@RaiseAllianceIIyeah but they should have just used it anyway

This is like a Blink documentary made by your local public access station.
More like local kid with Microsoft movie maker and no license rights to play Blink 182's music.
My parents bought this for me at Amoeba Records and i always watched it. Love this Doc.

Good documentary. I like the perspective of the people around them in the early years.

most awesome band in the whole universe

this needs to be promoted more people need to see this doc of legends
This is called "Punk Rock Poets, I bought this on DVD from CD Plus like 2001......
No mention of the punk bands that helped out along the way. No mention of the skateboard videos that helped promote the band
The reason they say Scott got dropped is a lie. If you wanna know the real reason, listen to Man Overboard and figure it out.
It was both reasons. Scott wanting to go to school and the alcohol, but yes, i agree.

I love how punk poets is re released under tons of different titles
It was actually because he hardly saw his family, and the managers basically told him he can either quit or continue... Not because of ego...
Why the hell wouldn't there be blink music in a blink movie?
Because it is an unauthorized blink movie
Copyright ©.
That’s why, there’s also NO Blink-182 music either.
I remember watching this as a kid! Bought it from eBay, waited a damn week for it to arrive & then was like WTF?! Lol 😆
Still awesome tho

does anyone know the name of the first song in the documentary?
💚
still reckon cheshire cat and dude ranch were their best CDs
There's no blink music because its unauthorized. You need to have permission from the label to do that. The inaccuracies in this are horrendous.
As soon as the video hit 23:20 and the guy said "Masturbating is..." my mom walked by my room and asked what the hell was I watching lol.
this isn't Never Miss A Beat, this is just blink 182 punk poets
Man said “they won’t catch the attention of a nation for too much longer” that statement didn’t end well

Do u know the name of the first song?
When he brought up the bean dip in in the toilet thing my head went in a totally different direction :/
I remember I had a copy of this documentary
the music in this documentary is beyond terrible, but the doc itself was worth watching.
I'd rather have no background music than that garbage though.
I'm a part of this band since 97 until now but unfortunately.......
Best movie ever!!!
Where did you find that reading festival blink 182 interview?
name of first song?
this gives tom all the credit for everything lol wtf
sorry mark not fair
@Osky Travis?! Travis didn’t join the Band till mid 1998. Tom and Scott founded the band, then Mark joined.
