I tried to install Arch "The Hard way" with no success, I always get stuck in the system boot installation part, I didn't know it had this wonderful tool to install it as it if was any other distro. I'd like to install it the hard way sometime in the future, though. Thank you for your explanation, very much appreciated.
it only finally worked, when I ignored about 30% of your instructions and followed my own instinct, because it's not just the USB it's the PC you're using with its chipset, it's wireless device, and various other hardware that influences what settings you should use. So this tutorial should specify which computer you are using because it really does affect the USB install
Thought mny times while reinstalling arch into my systems..... But never tried doing this..... Wohoo man thanks a lot. I'll try this today. Lesse what happens
Would I have to install new drivers and microcodes when moving the drive between PCs with different hardware? If that's the case, I might just wait until I get a new computer to do a regular installation.
after rebooting i dont have my desktop environnement installed and no internet connection, so cant download any other package to enable it, im a bit lost
Thank you, i am experimenting linux on a usb drive. First Slax was not that stable, the mint usb drive was overheating and eventually i broke it in two accidentally, then I bought a bigger one and wanted to try Arch even if it's "not for beginners" but this guide made me think otherwise. I use arch btw 😂😂
Fast forward, i reinstalled Mint until a friend of mine convinced me that i could install arch again and give it another try because i was really confused at first and switched back to the noob's distros. Now installing with plasma kde because well i think it's less confusing for us ex-windows users to have a more static desktop and less space between buttons so hope for the best!
Fast forward AGAIN: want to try devuan: got tired of bleeding edge updates, wanting some stable distro (debian), and maybe trying to not use systemd just for fun...
@@filipkocis Here i am! I have decided to return a bigger distro, Chrome OS! It's a labyrinth to install on VM, so i brought out my old HPE NAS from 2008, and i am literally writing this from the live usb i have just created, then i'll work to transform it into a virtual disk to hopefully find the BEST distro ever. Next "distro" to try is Hackintosh. I will update, i promise!
@filipkocis here! Basically I bought a thinkpad, got tired of windows and installed Sonoma on the entire ssd after various failed attempts of dual booting, got tired of it quickly after various malfunctions, today I finally installed OpenSUSE (not tumbleweed i don't remember the name lol) on the 128gb usb stick, because Fedora didn't wanted to do it and i wanted something so stable even a bomb couldn't destroy it.
So I dont need two separate usb sticks for this? I can just rewrite LiveUSB with actual system? And does it work on other distros? I tried Lubuntu but it didnt let me rewrite LiveUSB.
I followed your instruction three times and it failed and then I realized I had to use the different sound manager and I had to choose Intel because I've got an Intel based chipset on my Lenovo yoga so half of the settings you recommended don't fit the laptop I usedwith the USB I was using. Every case is different, this one works for your computer but not for everybody's also I used Balena etcher to download Linux so I didn't use an ISO. Every place is different and every tutorial on the works for a few people and the rest say goddamn I've wasted my time listening to this. It's a great tutorial but it doesn't work in every case
Is it on purpose that after following these instruction there is no internet available when you boot to Arch? I had to edit a text file to get my wired internet working and when trying to get my wireless internet working the whole OS broke, and needs to be reinstalled now. Any tips on how to get internet working? Edit: otherwise great installation tutorial, have to say :)
A stick? One stick is pretty slow, you could have more fps if you buy the same stick remember it has to be as big as the old one and should be in general identical
That’s not ok when you’re trying to install system 2 hours and watching whole stackoverflow pages for increasing your mount disk space in arch live iso installer just to download 1.5G of components whose are needed to install linux. AND THEN YOU ARE GETTING ANOTHER UNKNOWN ERROR WHILE YOUR INSTALLATION SCRIPT IS 101% CONFIGURED PROPERLY. P.S.: probably i am gonna install ubuntu because i just want to adapt a little bit for a linux gaming and using professional tools through wine(I am having a huge freeze spikes while playing games through windows. and I can’t reinstall it(i tried even reinstall gpu bios, and whole chipset drivers) because I have immigrated to EU and can’t even spend over 50$ for a bunch of VST plugins which costs more than 5000$) Sorry for poor English, this situation makes me rage and willing to go sleep at 6 am😢
Same issue on me. Just turn on the wlan0 with "iwctl device wlan0 set-property Powered on". If still got the issue, just check with : 1. `ip link show wlan0` 2. If its off, turn on with this commands: `ip link set wlan0 up`. If that appear "Operation not possinle due to RF-Kill. Just check with "rfkill list" and unblock using "rfkill unblock all"

Yes. It works only on Arch Linux as far I have tested
Its shows power of wlan0 off how should I can powered on
device wlan0 set-property Powered on
You may need to do adapter phys0 set-property Powered on
First
what to do if there is nothing in the device list
thanks,very helpfull
Well can do boot os into ram as I know usb get hot.
ram also gets hot
Prefer to install it on external ssd/nvme as it's much much faster.

Got a question man, would it be possible to install arch into an usb and when it's not plugged in, will i still be able to use window independently?
This is exactly what this video is about. If the usb is not plugged in then you boot into windows from your hard disk

do i have to keep the usb plugged into the computer to keep arch running?
No, you can even take it to a different machine and run it there

Sorry, I misunderstood your question. While Arch is running the USB stick must be plugged in. The USB stick is basically your hard drive.
Hey, can you make a Tutorial on how to Install Linux on a USB Drive, for the people that only have one USB Drive? If that is even possible... Thx!
I only have an 8gb USB, should I just buy a bigger one or can it manage?
I would buy a bigger one
yeah, if you're planning to use it medium-long term, you will need more storage for upcoming apps/packages you might want to install.

why not? it should work the same no matter what you use
