  • Solo survival in the Italian Alps, with minimal equipment: pocket knife, water bottle & a survival fishing kit. Julius is lucky to find a very special shelter: a bunker cave. But things get serious when a Thunderstorm is coming in and the bow drill fire materials aren't ready yet...... The next day is fishing day: will Julius catch & cook some fish this time?

Fishing tips, I'm much more a fisherman than survivor. Use the longest thin light pole you can find, tie on same length line, and swing it out there, then lay the rod down in water. 3 meter long rod, 3 meters of line, swing it out and lay the rod down with 20 cm on bank, put a rock on it. Now you are fishing just under 6 meters from the bank. Make a wooden float to tell you when a fish bites it. When I was a kid almost 50 years ago, lots of people in America fished this way for small bream. They used bamboo poles, sometimes 5 or more poles at a time, sometimes up to 4 meters long. The poles came apart in segments for travel and storage. The best bait often comes from the water. I would have tried those larva you saw in the stream. Or, find a way to catch minnows, with a trap made from litter. That plastic grocery bag you threw away, with a wooden frame, but then the hard part is what to bait the minnow trap with. Crush some seeds, get them wet, let them rot in the sun but that takes time. Putting a little beer on the seeds would help. Get in the shallow water and turn rocks and look for larva for bait. Tiny larva for small panfish fish but good for survival food. If you hook a big powerful fish you're just going to lose your hook anyway, with light line and primitive gear.

Spectacular footage! As a fisherman myself, I would advise when using worms and a hand line, cast and let it sit. Observe it, and occupy yourself with other tasks. Check it every hour or so. Keep up the amazing work, you guys make me look forward to Fridays even more!

    • @jbp6759
      @jbp6759 5 лет назад +2

@@SmoothGefixt Yup, letting it sit is a good idea with a worm on the hook. The worm moves on its own so that will attract fish. With stationary bait it may help to slowly reel it in (and "bump" it gently from time to time with your wrist) to attract fish.

I've never made one myself, but in theory it may work. A large stone fish trap with a narrow entry point, something like a "V". It is something that can be built and baited, sitting overnight with the possibility of a fish breakfast or lunch. It will definitely be a project for myself once the early spring comes. Good luck!

Julius, I want to share an easy way of fishing with you, I hope it can help you later ... you need 3-5 plastic bottles, fishing line, fishing hook and a little worm, first tie the fishing hook to the plastic bottle with a fishing line, with a size of 10 -30cm depending on the lake / river according to you, make it with all the bottles, then tie the bottles 2-5 meters apart and make it stretch, then drift in the lake / river from the right side to the left side until the bottle reaches the middle of the lake / river, all that's left is during the night, then the next morning watch from afar, if the bottle in the water moves unnaturally, then you get fish, if not, then try again in the afternoon.
I hope my advice can help you.

You had enough rocks and mud to build a chimney. You may have caught a fish if you had left the line alone and secured the wedge. Then use the jig with the pole. Another technique that sometimes works is a shiny flat rock on one line. Yank it around violently in the deep and jig on top. Overall good video.

You can put it in and leave it in the water without having to constantly retrieve meaning you could do some other task while watching the float. You can also have more than one line in at a time

A piece of colored cloth tied to the hook is a food improvised "fly", just cast & reel..
With a little work & someones "junk", you might be able to replicate a "spinner" lure..👍
Just a couple of thoughts.., enjoying your videos..👍👍

Hey man, you should raise stones more carefully on Italian mountains as they could hold viper nests. 😉❤️

Nice show Julius. Maybe you wanna know: the lure you found is a rapala trout (have the same in my tackle box) and the beer is (or was) a Gösser from austria (have the same in my fridge). Keep on doing what you do!! Always nice to watch.

Use the larvae with the natural shells for fishing bait. But remove the shell. Trout love those.
When young the larvae is white, when it gets older it turns yellow, then it hatches into a fly. We call it "musca de arin" in romanian. I think it translates to "october caddis"

When fishing, tie the hook above the weight. You will feel many more bites that way

And put the worm on better... Hook it two or 3 times

Great input guys, you can also use fruits or berries if you cant find worms anywhere...fish are very courios and often take it just to see what it is. you have to hook them properly in the second you feel tension or see movement in the line (better if you can actually see the bite). dont wait or they will spit it out again most of the times but there are also species which will eat fruits/berries...

The most amazing part is that the cave magically appeared out of nowhere, off screen was a running cold fridge with all requirements

Suggestion: Not sure if it will work in the Alps but it works in Alabama, USA. Cut a live small tree (about 1-inch diameter) about 18 inches off the ground and be sure to cut at an angle. You can use a rock or piece of wood (normally you would use the handsaw that you cut the tree with) to scrape across the top of the tree creating vibration. If there are any worms in the area they will come to the surface and can be picked up freely. We call them fiddle worms. Some call them night crawlers.
