- Solo survival in the Italian Alps, with minimal equipment: pocket knife, water bottle & a survival fishing kit. Julius is lucky to find a very special shelter: a bunker cave. But things get serious when a Thunderstorm is coming in and the bow drill fire materials aren't ready yet...... The next day is fishing day: will Julius catch & cook some fish this time?

Tip for keeping coals warm after covering in ash is to lay moss, green side down on top.
Great tip, thanks!
It's so enjoyable for me (I'm from Michigan, in the U.S.) to just listen to him talk. He's not only very much at home in the forest, but his accent is quite endearing! I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this video and have happily become a new subscriber!
This is one of the best videos on the channel!!! More like this please. I love the style at the beginning and the cinematics were great too. You did a great job with the sped up footage, just the right amount of it.
Every video from your channel is getting better and better. I appreciate you being truly GLOBAL, different from other RUclipsrs who do only the same location.
Seeing "Italian Alps" in the intro was an extreme great surprise.
This is my favorite survival video's I've ever seen! The footage was fantastic; the shot of the fire in the dark, with the lightning in the background was astounding.
What a honor!:)
That was my favorite scene
No lie, 30 seconds in and I am already impressed! Super excited to chill with you guys while I enjoy my lunch
Found beer, in a cosy cave. That's living life
Getting the friction fire going in almost complete darkness is damn epic.
Damn risky business though, 10 minutes later and I would have been screwed in the dark;)
Great Camera work and editing! Your hard work and commitment is paying off! Thanks for the effort you are putting into this.
Fishing tips, I'm much more a fisherman than survivor. Use the longest thin light pole you can find, tie on same length line, and swing it out there, then lay the rod down in water. 3 meter long rod, 3 meters of line, swing it out and lay the rod down with 20 cm on bank, put a rock on it. Now you are fishing just under 6 meters from the bank. Make a wooden float to tell you when a fish bites it. When I was a kid almost 50 years ago, lots of people in America fished this way for small bream. They used bamboo poles, sometimes 5 or more poles at a time, sometimes up to 4 meters long. The poles came apart in segments for travel and storage. The best bait often comes from the water. I would have tried those larva you saw in the stream. Or, find a way to catch minnows, with a trap made from litter. That plastic grocery bag you threw away, with a wooden frame, but then the hard part is what to bait the minnow trap with. Crush some seeds, get them wet, let them rot in the sun but that takes time. Putting a little beer on the seeds would help. Get in the shallow water and turn rocks and look for larva for bait. Tiny larva for small panfish fish but good for survival food. If you hook a big powerful fish you're just going to lose your hook anyway, with light line and primitive gear.
Great tips my friend, thanks a lot!
@@SmoothGefixtKEEP UP THE AMAZING WORK BUD! Whenever I don't feel good about myself I just watch your vids and you brighten up the WHOLE MONTH!
Regards,
(My profile is... you know...) from America
P.S: I don't know the statistics about people watching from Murica' but anyways.
I basically wrote the same as you about using a pole to double your reach I hadnt scrolled down. Its a top tip:).
The Alps are beautiful, from whatever side. I traveled through them 40 years ago with my father and brother. Journey of a lifetime.
Spectacular footage! As a fisherman myself, I would advise when using worms and a hand line, cast and let it sit. Observe it, and occupy yourself with other tasks. Check it every hour or so. Keep up the amazing work, you guys make me look forward to Fridays even more!
That be efficient!
@@SmoothGefixt Yup, letting it sit is a good idea with a worm on the hook. The worm moves on its own so that will attract fish. With stationary bait it may help to slowly reel it in (and "bump" it gently from time to time with your wrist) to attract fish.
I prefer it, when you are not in such a rush, as in the “get to the extractionpoint-challenge”. Really like your vibe in this video👍
These first 2 minutes were one of the best bits of film you ever made. Really had a bear grills kind of vide to it with the fast descending. Loved it
Lennart Wolfert deffinately
Yep the whole bear effect.
That was the part I Didn't like lol
He's much smarter than Bear
I'm Pretty sure Julius waits for the rain to make his fire every time lol
Haha, stay tuned for the next one then;)
hahahahahahahha
I always wonder how annoying it is to do everything twice to get the camera back and do it again
Well as he has a drone he could use that to film some of the fixed position stuff then fly it to himself afterwards.
If he has considered that or not I have no idea xD
Sowel 44 that’s still a lot of extra work but it’s funny to think about
Nice lekkere omgeving man hoe vind je die plekken
His film crew does that😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Fumingzeus φωςστοτουλ
When you consider that your on your own in the middle of nowhere that truly is some exceptional camera and photography work
What a great video Julius! Really cool editing, video shots and sounds... it really bumps the quality up! Well done mate.
“People messin around “... another great video my man ...well done and thank u from Australia 🇦🇺
I've never made one myself, but in theory it may work. A large stone fish trap with a narrow entry point, something like a "V". It is something that can be built and baited, sitting overnight with the possibility of a fish breakfast or lunch. It will definitely be a project for myself once the early spring comes. Good luck!

I just found this channel in my recommendations, and now I know what I’ll be binge watching. Good stuff!
Me also
AWESOME! 😃 Stay with the wilderness, I love survival and outdoor activities and this year I’m going wild camping ALOT! Great video!
Great video, best looking Smooth Gefixt video I've seen so far. Keep up the great work Julius!
Sweeet!:)
Jeeehaaaa and here he is by himself, so great. I love those smooth gefixt Fridays, always looking for them. Julius good to go, not too shabby though and of course not messing around...
O my gawd! Dude, I’ve only watched 40 seconds and the production is amaaazzingg so far. Absolutely fantastic. SUCH AN INSPIRATION brooooo!
I think it would be cool to see you guys basically camping where you get your choice of what you'd bring for leisure. Also it would give you a chance to show of other survival techniques, as in cooking and hunting/trapping/fishing
Your content is really good btw, most entertaining bushcraft content i’ve seen. Don’t know why i’ve never heard of you before.
Tof, ik kijk niks anders dan dit soort filmpjes. Leuk om een NL te zien!
Bro, I swear... you are king of finding random shelters that people have lived in. Didn't you find a house one challenge and sleep in a chair one time because your shelter was not setup? Cool stuff man. Been a long time since I have seen you on. Cheers!
What a lovely video! I loved that Intro! it really helped me to get a feel of the area you were in!
Fantastic video :D
Beautiful location, beautiful filming work, thanks for sharing. Loved the ending too! Cheers!
Impressed by how much you improved the production quality on your videos over the years :)
So awesome!
You keep getting better and better.
This is a very good vid. I like this kind the most of all the vids you do, various survival situations with minimal gear. You demonstrate many good survival skills.
Julius, I am constantly impressed by your ever-increasing production value. I am sure the amazing scenery helps, but I sincerely thank you for making this content, I have always wanted to do more of this kind of adventure and your channel is a bountiful source of inspiration for me and so many others. Keep up the good work, from Australia.
Great to hear, thanks a lot!
Glad to have a video this week. I was sad when the 3day Mountain challenge ended!
I really appreciate the camera work man, nice one,👍
Beautiful setting! Wish I could give you fishing tips, but that's something I've never been able to do well.
6:30 those are snail eggs, probably some shell less species, but i don"t know which certainly.
Interesting. They were quite large for what I thought snail eggs could be but I guess you learn something new every day. Cheers
Was looking through the comments to see if anyone knew what kind of eggs they were they looked interesting
This was my thought too, some sort of snail or slug, they have fairly large eggs for their body size and lay them in the soil like that. Look a different colour to the European Garden Snail eggs that I have seen, but very similar.
Yes there are snail eggs from "wijngaard slak" in holland lol
Thanks for that. I was wondering what they were
Wild foraging beer and snail caviar with a ready made shelter, luxury survival.
Really hard to believe that he thinks we don't know this spot was pre-planned . Which is fine , just don't act like it wasn't !!
@@indycharlie You may be the only one who thinks that.
@@jbp6759 If you think he didn't have any information about that old bunker and cave before he filmed this OK . Not for a second do I believe it was just stumbled on by him !! N/C !!! If you do , fine .
I love watching your vids it helps me go to sleep I always watched your video
It's that time of the week to "get your fix" of Smooth Gefixt
Ahaa
Tips for finding wurms is jumping on the ground a few times the wurms wil think its raining and they wil come up
Great show G, and variety too!
Spectacular natural environment there. Great video.
Loved this episode man! Keep it up, these trips and challenges fof a few days are what i love! Before you know it youll be like ed stafford with your own programme on discovery! Keep it up man haha
Know I’m late and all but underrated asf, really well filmed and fun to watch.
I think using the caddisfly larvae for bait would have possibly upped your chances of catching .👍🏻
TheDukes Adventures
I figured that’s what he’d use them for.
Or those eggs he sampled.
@@haumana5987 Yes, I thought the same. Since he accidentally already disturbed them, they were probably doomed anyway.
This channel is gold
Traveling on rough terrain is so easy for you Julius. I guess that's the advantage of having spider legs.
What a find, nice natural shelter with a couple of beers in it, result.
Just happened to "find" it. LOL
I’m new to this channel but I’m really enjoying it .. from Australia
Amazing production mate, really professional, great content too, top notch. I’m new to your vids, really enjoyed this and 1vs1 battles. So fishing tip, helps if you sing to the fish, also try dynamite.
Beautiful video with beautiful scenes in Italy.
Hopefully you come to SE Asia nature to film your survivor.
you are Really good at exploring
Such a cozy cave. Nice find!
What a beautifull landscape and wonderfull camera shots
Great stuff Julius! Cinematography is on point as always as well!
19:48 tip - you can check Production date that is *always* stamped on bottle or sticker to learn how old is certain product or even how long some packaging was lying around.
For example learning when those campers, who left the plastic mess in cave, have stayed in cave based on the packaging they have left there.
Hello Julius, next time fishing try and tie a small piece of wood to the line to act as a float and then you can set a specific depth - warmer weather the fish feed higher in the water and colder they go deep. Love your stuff keep going
I have watched all of your videos, and I still LOVE when you guys put a new one out!!! *Keep it up*
BOY oh boy. Lots of double climbing for these shots. STAMINA!
With the sinker and worm fishing set up. It would be best to attach something on the hook with the worm that floats, cast it out and leave it. Dragging the rock on the bottom may scare the fish away.
Good stuff! Love the content
Often times the fish will set the hook by itself and you can set it up and check on it later
convenient there was a fishing lure by the lake and a tarp and cooking grill in a bunker he just happened upon
you will be amazed what treasure awaits you in the local park xD
Great stuff Julias
very nice place .. beautiful view
i liked the part where he was making the fire in the dark, and when the fire started the light from it lit up everything, great film making. actually the film making of this video was very good, you must have gone to school or studied this? anyways great job
Julius, I want to share an easy way of fishing with you, I hope it can help you later ... you need 3-5 plastic bottles, fishing line, fishing hook and a little worm, first tie the fishing hook to the plastic bottle with a fishing line, with a size of 10 -30cm depending on the lake / river according to you, make it with all the bottles, then tie the bottles 2-5 meters apart and make it stretch, then drift in the lake / river from the right side to the left side until the bottle reaches the middle of the lake / river, all that's left is during the night, then the next morning watch from afar, if the bottle in the water moves unnaturally, then you get fish, if not, then try again in the afternoon.
I hope my advice can help you.
Maybe use the long neck bottle to wind your line, for a reel.
You are crazy..love it..I could rock with you..it's just life..homelessness is not hpmeless.whereever i lay my head is home.
God wont let me down.
Love you man..✌💖🤘
Wow man what an awesome opener! Love it.
Love watching your videos, your channel is great and i always look forward to more...great job, keep at it. All the best. 🇬🇧😎👋
Didn't really think it was staged until you found the plastic and beer LOL
Julius.... That was the best ever! Bravo!
Thanks Jimmm :)
@@SmoothGefixt Seriously, the photography, the location and everything. Best of the best. Though I wonder what animal made those eggs you ate. That, dude, was brave.
love how much youve grown bro. always entertaining
Very cool Stuff. This Old Man Will Be Looking At more Of your Shows. Thank You :)
Been binge watching this channel. I’m all caught up! Just recently found the channel and I love it.
That was a Gösser Bier from Austria you drank there my friend!! it's pretty good! couldn't have been that old yet because they sold those bottles still not too long ago!
Great video Julius!
I love the "people MESSIN, MESSIN AROUND"
I quote this in my head all the time 🤣
I have to give you probs for the effort you put into the camera work👌
Yeah man really gorgeous shots.
You had enough rocks and mud to build a chimney. You may have caught a fish if you had left the line alone and secured the wedge. Then use the jig with the pole. Another technique that sometimes works is a shiny flat rock on one line. Yank it around violently in the deep and jig on top. Overall good video.
Eating mystery eggs and drinking mystery beer. You are braver than me. Lol
Best video yet in my opinion
In terms of primitive survival fishing. Its sometimes easier to have a float And have a worm dangling. You can put it in and leave it in the water without having to constantly retrieve meaning you could do some other task while watching the float. You can also have more than one line in at a time
New sub, brilliant video.
Just found you. Greetings from Serbia.
The beginnings of the facial hair looks good Brother! Keep it up! See what happens! Dark beer and camping? Marriage made in heaven!
Fishing tip...
If you can't find bait, make bait...
A piece of colored cloth tied to the hook is a food improvised "fly", just cast & reel..
With a little work & someones "junk", you might be able to replicate a "spinner" lure..👍
Just a couple of thoughts.., enjoying your videos..👍👍
Good, not food**
Hey man, you should raise stones more carefully on Italian mountains as they could hold viper nests. 😉❤️
Kalau di Indonesia tempat gini pasti di bilang angker.Good job for u channel ,greeting from Indonesia dud
Love your vids I say this every week
Nice show Julius. Maybe you wanna know: the lure you found is a rapala trout (have the same in my tackle box) and the beer is (or was) a Gösser from austria (have the same in my fridge). Keep on doing what you do!! Always nice to watch.
Haha, that cool! Thanks
Use the larvae with the natural shells for fishing bait. But remove the shell. Trout love those.
When young the larvae is white, when it gets older it turns yellow, then it hatches into a fly. We call it "musca de arin" in romanian. I think it translates to "october caddis"
Great video, Awsome editing and filming as always :)
When fishing, tie the hook above the weight. You will feel many more bites that way
And put the worm on better... Hook it two or 3 times
Great input guys, you can also use fruits or berries if you cant find worms anywhere...fish are very courios and often take it just to see what it is. you have to hook them properly in the second you feel tension or see movement in the line (better if you can actually see the bite). dont wait or they will spit it out again most of the times but there are also species which will eat fruits/berries...
That looks like the most useful cave trash ever!
The most amazing part is that the cave magically appeared out of nowhere, off screen was a running cold fridge with all requirements
@Fishpest Aussie I was just lucky for a change, if you watch some of my other survival challenges you will understand.
Suggestion: Not sure if it will work in the Alps but it works in Alabama, USA. Cut a live small tree (about 1-inch diameter) about 18 inches off the ground and be sure to cut at an angle. You can use a rock or piece of wood (normally you would use the handsaw that you cut the tree with) to scrape across the top of the tree creating vibration. If there are any worms in the area they will come to the surface and can be picked up freely. We call them fiddle worms. Some call them night crawlers.
Okay so definitely taking the filmography to the next level. Awesome.
