For the mouse problem, I would recommend a large full size gaming mat (the kind that covers your whole keyboard and mouse work area). Your mouse will work perfectly, and you will reduce wear on the desk surface. It will also give you a nice soft surface to rest your arms and wrists on. I have a standard desk but never regretted buying one of those mats.
Keith. I noticed in the clip when you were fitting the camera outside that you have a 6 or 10mm t&e via a catenary. t&e isnt really meant for out side use as uv degrades the palstic. you might consider covering it with a length of conduit but obviosly that will mean disconnecting one end
Hi Keith. I'm a professional decorator and use zinsser products a lot as they are superb. The best cleaning solution is the proprietary bin cleaner zinsser produce, but best (and cheapest) solution is just store the brush in the tin. My current zinsser bin brush is approximately 2 years old. Really enjoy your vids and if you have any decorating questions/issues don't hesitate to ask and I'll be happy to help. I also live in Norwich.
Love Zinnser bin. Cleaning brushes is fine with Methylated spirits. Just swirl around in a small jar of it, then take out. Will always be some left i the middle of the brush, but when dry is brushes out into a bit of dust afterwards and brush is typically good again. Also can thin BIN with the meth a little which can stop it drying quite so fast. Still fast, but a little more working time. Use BIN on knots all the time to seal before painting.
I installed Annke cameras at my Grandfather's house and they've been running for a few years now without a problem! I went with Ring cameras for mine as they were on sale, and I already had the doorbell and alarm, and have either Echo Shows or Fire TVs in every room, so I can watch from anywhere. I was already paying a monthly fee for the doorbell, so it wasn't much more for unlimited cameras
Hi Keith, As previously mentioned by Sarah, you can clean your Zinsser brushes with meths, however if you get a suitable container that is airtight, put your brush in there with some meths, wash the brush in the meths, then leave it standing in the meths.I struggled to find a tall enough container, but eventually used a “ Vanish” fabric cleaner container. I managed to buy a short handled brush from Johnstones, which fits perfectly. This method means you can use decent brushes. If you check the brush every month or so, they will stay soft for months if not years 😀
Now you're using matt paint I'd suggest perhaps giving the walls a coat of decorators varnish. It doesn't change the sheen of the paint too much at all but it really helps with minimising marks on the walls as they now would be wipe clean.
The desk, the handles, the wall paint, it's all stunning! What a makeover! Nice to see Dylan too, as usual. 😉 As far as another video on the office, yes please! Show us the journey to a dream space, INCLUDING your best shot at sewing! 😂
Pro decorator here, and your approach with B-I-N primer is absolutely correct. Just use a knackered brush like you said, or a crappy disposable one from a pack in the pound shop. Don't even bother trying to clean them, it's a complete waste of time and products.
A great build and finished off beautifully by those handles. You should have done a separate video about you security system. That would have been interesting but do a video about sewing curtains. I am sure we will learn something.
Hello Keith. For Zinnzer brush clean use Meths. In fact, if you have an airtight container that takes the length of brush, leave it in with a little meths so it is ready for use and just pat dry ahead of using, For cutting in get used to using a three inch brush (Purdy are good for this) and just angle the brush away from (say) skirting. You will soon find you get a cleaner edge. Those sash brushes give you a blobby cut in. Same goes for cut in to ceilings etc. Bob ( Somerset) "Where the cider apples grow.
Wow, desk is awesome, office looks great, Blue Yeti microphone is awesome, cat is adorable. Guess that says it all. Seriously, love the desk and that hardware was well worth the wait and expense.
I always remember a jimmy diresta tip for paint brushes. He cut the handle short and left it in the tin. The next time he needed to use it he opened the tin, grabbed the brush with mole grips or pliers and painted with the mole grips as the handle
Keith, the completed desk looks great in the room and the new green paint that you've chosen for the walls is indeed an upgrade. Thanks for sharing this build process with us.
Loved the old colour green, as well as the new one! Classy! ooh, and those brass handles are nice, too. And yes, a video on soundproofing your room would be interesting, Keith!
I would have LOVED a whole video on the camera installation, as I'm planning on installing my own cameras and I'm sure you'd have some good tips and advice.
I'll admit, when I first saw the video title, my first throught was "oh great another maker who got sent a free standing desk frame that they made a video out of adding a top". I am glad I was wrong, another great video! A tip I used for my large desk to allow cables without smashing, I got some rubber feet that have a hole in the middle for a screw, and put two of them along the back edge of the desk, and the took a stick on felt pad to put over it after screwed down. Keeps it away from the way a consistant amount (am I OCD lol) and less likely to mark up the wall from rubbing. Have you thought about doing a video on making your videos? I for one like watching those as I'm just getting back into video editing after 15 years since last doing it.

Bubbled up paint is sometimes (when moisture has been ruled out) a simple matter of not fully dusting down the surface before painting. I use my shop-vac and a suitable brush to completely clean the wall to be painted. Since I've started doing this routine before painting, no more bubbles!
Clean the Zinsser bin brushes in meths as the first step then warm water and washing up liquid. A water based solution to powdery surface or somewhere that need stabilising is Zinsser Gardz. Brilliant stuff

If you've only come here for Dylan skip to: 00:15 (you can't catch me out with time lapse that easily); 00:23 (awwww, watch this bit frame by frame, it's properly heart warming); 07:07; 10:35 (Dylan gets bored looking over Keith's shoulder); 11:23 (Dylan is still bored); 12:16 (Dylan on security camera - he's a cat burglar); 12:46 (back to bored Dylan); 12:59 (Dylan's reflection on the monitor. You can't catch me out like that either); 13:09 (Dylan wants to know how much longer you're going to be ignoring him); 13:34 (Dylan being bored from a different angle). Well that makes up for the occasions when Dylan doesn't appear. The office is looking good and I also like that you bin your bin brushes :D

On your previous video, I commented that perhaps the desk was one of your best builds. In fact, having seen this video, I think it is the best thing you've made. Just my opinion. The office/studio looks great. Lovely work. Great to watch this :)
Great desk design and build. Your work has real style to it now Keith and those handles may not be reclaimed but worth every penny - even if paid for. I agree that sound proofing vid and one on making vids would be very interesting.
The desk looks great, Keith! Nice work and attention to detail. Cracking looking desk. You gave me a thought when mentioning the issues with the mouse and not quite enough desk space on the 45 degree angle part, why not make that entire angle section out of one large piece of wood? Then there would be no seem for your mouse to struggle with. Anyway great build, really love the double drop leaf file store (I feel an upgrade to my old office desk coming on). Another superb video, the Annke cameras look good too, keep up the good work.
Great video as always. A nice wooden mouse pad could fix your (mouse over joints) problem. And possibly a modular wrist support to attach to the front of the angled section.
For once the Facebook algorithm worked. Watched a few of your clips and went hunting for your RUclips channel. Love the content and the high level of detail.
Incredible job! I love this desk! Those brass drawer handles really take it up a notch. For the short corner issue, I’m wondering if a piece of the accent wood (sapele?) could be added as an extension.
Love the vid sir. Always interesting to see what comes from your channel. An unsolicited thought regarding your sound deadening options if I may? What are your thoughts on "decorating" with tapestries instead of cloth? Finding ones that are intriguing and artistic would add some contrasting colors and visual interest and the pile from the tapestries would help to capture and quiet some of the sound. Anywho, looking forward to future vids. Cheers.
Hi Keith, love the finished Desk and must give you a lot of satisfaction sitting at such a nice desk knowing you built it all yourself. @@RagnBoneBrown Hi Keith, thanks for the links, I've now watched all three and I now understand why I've never considered getting into RUclips creation before when I was working full time, travelling up and down the country for work, having three children and now four grandchildren as well. Now I'm retired, its something I've been considering for a little while and had a dabble on Instagram and Facebook but as yet not ventured on to RUclips, I'm not really interested in making money from it but really enjoy the process of making things and DIY in general but it would be really nice to share my experiences with other people. Thanks again for taking the time to reply, having watched these videos I now understand how difficult it must be to keep up with comments and questions. Having retired I thought I would have countless hours of spare time but I'm still finding that there still isn't enough hours in the day. Keep up the great work, but take it from me, Family is the most important thing in your life, so always make time for them over and above everything else, sometimes over the last fourty years I may have forgotten that for a while but find it even more important now I have grandchildren, take care and thanks again.

Most binders don't resist heat well. You can clean most paint off using boiling water, as long as it is not hot enough to also melt nylon bristles.

Hey Keith, your desk is beautiful. I've loved joining you on your journey from polishing up bits you found on the side of the road to this top quality bespoke desk. Keep up the good work :o)
I used meths to clean my Purdy when my wife used the wrong primer and brush from the shed ! It did turn out ok in the end.
The new setup looks great. Nice work on the desk, I enjoyed watching the build.
Great video. Beautiful desk. With the triangle joining piece where you sit. Could you curve (semi circle) out the side that is close against your body with a nice smooth jigsaw cut? Nothing too steep but could give you a couple more inches and feel a bit more spacious?
Methylated spirits is the only thing to clean it, as a decorator I get the cheapest crap brushes and throw them after, or the cheapest sponge rollers. If you get any more issues try some zinsser peel stop, that'll do the trick for anything flakey or powdery. Would of thought bin should work though. Great work
Agree with Sarah, as you know Keith, shellac is the basis for French polish and so meths also used in French Polish is the solvent to clean that paint, which happens to be the dogs dangles in my opinion.
Thank you!
The drawer pulls are gorgeous! The desk is okay, too! I love how Dylan matches the new wall colour. :D Nice work, Keith. Greetings from Montreal.

God bless you! 😄 (you sneezed)
