- No one can argue with the fact that the BMW M3 is a highly potent track weapon. But in the interest of “competition,” there’s an M3 that takes things to yet another level. And, you guessed it, it’s called the M3 competition. Well, not everyone here at MotorWeek gets a trophy, so let’s hit the track and see what the competition has to worry about to keep up with the M3.

John Davis is an American legend.
Yes! He's made car enthusiasts out of multiple generations
His voice is so recognizable.
& always dares to admit “the lack of steering feel”, even in modern days...
As a owner I am slightly biased... But I can say after coming out of a 997 and 991 Turbos this was an unexpectedly fast alternative to them. Having added in KW sleeved coilovers and a JB4 unit for a lil extra power. This car truly amazes me, composed on backroads and straight-line power to hang with more powerful cars. Win Win
I have a 997.2 C2S and a tuned Audi S6 4.0T. I’m not sure I could ever let the 911 go, but I’ve considered condensing those two cars into an M3 Comp xDrive. Think I would regret that? I agree that it’s very fast out of the box and can be even better with light modifications (tune and KWs like yours). The only criticisms (other than the front end but I’ve grown to like it) that I’ve heard are the transmission and the steering. How has your experience been?
@@jad4ca The trans with great, its as good as a PDK in all aspects which was a surprise. Its better at WOT in my opinion. I have a good friend with a 997.2 GT3 with a ton of aero, suspension and tires. My car as it sits with its current mods is faster on the straights, I've got more grip in corners and I am on the throttle earlier for corner exits. On backroads while chasing me at full tilt(Bear Mtn NY is the area). He cant keep up with me, per his statement the car is completely flat in corners with virtually no leaning in the car visually when he's chasing me. These are insanely capable with very little in mods. I would absolutely recommend it. I am searching for a Cayman GT4 to go with this for 2 great toys and the perfect garage for me. Best two cars on the market
@@gruppegee That’s pretty amazing. Very impressive 4-door, that’s for sure. Enjoy in health and good luck in your GT4 search.
They keep under reporting the 0 to 60. Is no wonder everyone and their grandmother are trying to race me out of the dig with disappointing outcomes... ;)
this will get smoked by most modern electric cars…. wah wah waaaah.
10 years from now cars with 500-600 hp is going to be “normal “ .
**electric cars**
@Steven Salcido there's been cars that are around 2 Tons or 4,000 pounds for ages the last gen Cadillac Deville for example weighed 4,047 LBS before you added options or the Cadillac Seville of the same model year weighed just under 4,000 LBS before options were added at 3,992 the 04 Deville was about 100 LBs. lighter than the 1979 model of the same car my late maternal grandmother drove a used 1979 Coupe Deville when I was a small child it was from that car that I fell in Lifelong love with Cadillacs though not so much with the sizing of the CTS which reminded me more of like a Buick Skylark or a Toyota Camry in size though not in trunk space
As will a 5000 lb curb weight with the inefficient batteries.
Stating the obvious.
No they will be electric
People are getting 0-60 times of 2.9 (see MotorTrend) to 3.2 seconds (see any other video on RUclips) and quarter mile times of 11.1 seconds. The M3 xDrive is a beast and this video does not publish the true real world numbers.
Couldn't agree more. First gear on this animal is bonkers! And launch control has caused my 10 year old and wife to lose their phone while trying to record the acceleration:D
I picked up a 22 M4 Comp xDrive convertible, and it's a massive leap over my previous M4 GTS. Power feels just as strong, steering feel is way way way better, suspension is very good, and my big complaint with the M4 GTS was the heavy handed MDM stability settings. The 8 speed is also much better than the DCT in the GTS. Overall, a huge leap, and my best BMW ever.
Grear job
From Argentina 🇦🇷
Keep it up
Something about the front end reminds me of a Pontiac.
Yeah! The 90s Grand Prix or grand am!👋😂👌
GTO lol
Agreed
If they just stretched the grille downward, and under and back, and up and over, BMW could have a wrap around grille...and that would certainly be a thing, also. So the next logical step probably.
The last time I saw nostrils this flared was watching Scarface.
Say what you will about the looks, but this thing is an absolute rocket!
Beauty lid Ben!
It appears bmw kidneys have been replaced with a different part of the anatomy.
BMW lungs 🫁
504hp from that 3.0 straight 6 must be amaaaaaazing.
Thats to the wheel. Bmw typically under rates
Even Porsche can’t make that much power from their 3.0L turbo flat-6. Most requires 3.5L like NSX, 3.8L like GT-R or 911 Turbo. Only Ferrari and McLaren or Maserati can boost more power from a 2.9L V6
@@lordmaster5522 every manufacturer can get that power from a 3litre turbo 6 pot lol, they just limit the power in stock form for various reasons.
@@lordmaster5522 what are you talking about. A Porsche 911 GT3 makes 502 horsepower out of a naturally aspirated 4.0 L flat six. The 911 Turbo S makes 640 with a 3.7
@@Mac10Daddy and those are both bigger than a 3.0 L
M3, make me proud!
I hate to say this but the grill is starting to grow on me it's not that bad, compared to some of the others, and that color is off the hook.
I literally couldn't care less about the "energy impact score" - I have a M3 Xdrive on order now in an individual (dark) color to mask the grille a bit.
That will help, but it's still ugly.
For that $, id get a zl1.
Same dude !
Having a darker color does help
@@gtrance3567 I looked at them and test drove. It's an ancient car for not much less. Engine is great, but tech sucks and so does visibility. Traction is low and I need 4 doors or I would have kept my Carrera T. And CT5 Blackwing is impossible to get right now.
Really considering selling my f10 m5 for the new m3. The awd is stupid imo.
Please learn how to use a stopwatch guys!!
When flying cars come out this same guy will be reviewing them.
Meanwhile I’m rocking 78hp in my mirage…
Just don't look at that front, but it's an amazing performance car..
I use to think the same thing until I saw it in a dark color in person OMG it’s gorgeous
I did not recognize this as a BMW from looking at the thumbnail. Starting to look like a gasping Alfa Romeo.
Alfas aren't that ugly, including this car's nemesis, the Giulia Quadrifoglio.
@@rlsedition they arent as ugly as that bmw but they are still weird looking from the front
@@shivamarya5225 I couldn't disagree more - the Giulia is gorgeous from every angle.
@@rlsedition well it's my opinion, i think they look weird if you look at them directly from the front, like someone going YOOOOOUUUuuuu
@@shivamarya5225 And I disagree.
Idk why ppl keep talking about the front end. This car is a BEAST
That's their only argument against it.
Added hp thanks to the additional cooling with the new nose. You might think it’s ugly, but I’m sure that nose helps add HP through additional cooling.
True, but they could have opened the front up without it looking like.....that. Every other manufacturer does.
Actually it does NOT help with cooling. If you look closer you'll see a chunk of that big opening is not actually open. That front end is purely for style.
@@eljefe8564 well sometimes you choose the ugly one because they’ll do more than the hot ones. Know what I’m saying? 😃
@@SeanyMacks checkout the vorsteiner grille...
It is ugly.
This color combo is gonna be worth 500k 20 years from now.
Greatest car ever.
Fugliest M3 ever 👏
…if you’re referring to anything from the BMW lineup in the 80s and 90s, then sure. Since the early 2000s, the brand has been a steady decline into blandness and soullessness.
Get behind the wheel of one of these and I doubt you’ll have the same opinion.
The grill is getting less uglier that’s good .
I think you just have gotten complacent. It still looks butt fugly the day it debuted
@@mluu510 lol i said less didn’t say its not ugly.
In dark colors, this sabre tooth looks less ugly.....😄
the front, gg
Great Car indeed, but I still can't get over this Beaver Teeth....
Get it in all black ..it won't show much
I think they hired former Pontiac designers.
@@cy329 Lamborghini did for the Urus why not BMW.....
Reminds me of a 2002 grill
@@Dragon228833 2002 looks a billion times better
“...though BMW's ever-present lack of steering feel does not help matters...what it lacks in steering feel it makes up for with seat-of-pants chassis feedback...”
3:22
I'd rather have “steering feel” instead & get rid of “seat-of-pants chassis feedback”! LOL
That exterior/interior color combination is certainly a choice...
I don't think so.
It's "a choice". One I wouldn't make with that "face".
Who thought that color combination was a good idea. I'm surprised they would even offer it
My brother in law said “the new m3 is sexy. It’s different”. I stopped talking to him since then.
MPOWER 💪
Those seats are a chiropractors wet dream
I’ve had a few 2+ hour drives in those seats, and so far they’re the most comfortable seats I think I’ve ever experienced.
Would love the new M3/M4 even more if it wasn't yellow.
That interior color is awful.
darker colors look much better with that grill
@@ed52369 Yes, and Pitch Black would be the best.
@@rlsedition I don't like the grill, but it doesn't matter when you're behind the wheel.
@@ed52369 I've heard this argument before, but I happen to value the exterior appearance of my vehicle and I find the new M3/M4 hideous in the front. If you don't care, fine for you.
Damn. I feel like 40 years from now im gonna be watching this with my grandkids. Ima be like wow i remember that car. By then we will be at 3000hp electric. Its like now watching a acura legend with my granpa and he saying that was the sh***t back then
Sad looking the f80 looks as the last bmw looking thing they have made
Still not big on the yellow blue seats, the color combo of an old beaten up nerf football
Have one coming now frozen black with red/black interior … something darth Vader would cruise in
BMW FOREVER GET BUY ONE AND CHANCES ARE U WILL BUY ANOTHER
The front grille is dope af
A few years in and I still don't care for the nose 😓. Otherwise this is probably the ultimate daily.
Wonder how it compares to Tesla Model 3 which is incredible fast
Trip to orthodontist..... 😆
A front face a mother could only love!👋😂👉👋🤓
It looks dope af
It looks great in person.
Good grief that is an ugly front end
The Beaver 🦫…. But I would still buy
I can't sleep at night knowing that hideous buck teeth is also in my garage
Can you say future collector.
Not the AWD version. Maybe the rear drive manual spec
@@inomad Take a look at the prices for the AWD versions and you'll find a different answer - cheapest used AWD are going for $100k. The reason being is that this AWD system turns the car into a GTR and can be switched to 2WD if desired.
The M3 Beaver. Can't stand the front end styling.
I've said it once and I'll say it again. Buy it in black, then! *Not hard to understand?*
@@brianlee9233 Buy a F90 M5 that is what I did when I transitioned from F80 M3.
Or buy it in any color you like on a car. The grille is way more attractive in person. Take it from a former hater.
@@jeemo Sorry, the car is ugly, I would take a restored M3 E30 before this any day.
@@muskcoder6367 Different strokes for different folks, I suppose.
Member when BMW use to make good looking cars? Like in the late 90's/early 2,000's?
There's an easy fix for the people who think the front is ugly.
Buy it in black. It'll barely stick out.
I don't want to spend this much money just to conceal it. Sad
I agree, I keep telling them, but they don't listen.
Too bad you can't get one unless you wait 6-12 months.
That's not bad at all, try buying a Rolex...
The front end looks like a Tesla. The rear end looks like a Lexus
I don't agree with the front, but that back is definitely carbon copy Lexus
Please, don't insult Tesla and Lexus like that. They have better taste
NOBODY... would ever use this as a daily driver.
Lots of people drive it for a daily. I drive mine, almost daily. And I have friends that have them, that have 30,000 km on their 2022 model.
I drive mine daily. 12k miles a year.
@@bobwilliams1177 You probably can't afford a winter vehicle, that's why.
I beat around an old Tacoma in the winter. But the M3 is used from the first days of spring until the first time they salt the roads.
Great car, I’ve also just created a video about the m3, it would mean the world of you checked it out 😀
This car is the human equivalent of an olympic athlete with buck teeth.
That has to be the ugliest color combination available.
🔥🔥🔥🔥
The non-competition version betters as it has a manual transmission.
RS3 ftw
You'd almost think that BMW tries to sell fewer cars with horrible designs like this.
Cant wait to get this used in 3 years for 19k lol
M cars traditionally hold their value quite well.
Yeah especially m3s the only m3 that's worth 19k right now is a e36 lol
How could they come from F80 to this monstrosity
Try driving one...
I *hated* the grille when I first so photos. A week later I put in an order. In person it’s a different story. I went from only tolerating it to actually loving it.
That front end is gross. Looks like you’re looking up someone’s nose 🤮
Sorry, the #1 task of a sports coupe/sports sedan is to look good. This one doesn't cut it.
Sadly BMW has gone from
"The Ultimate Driving Machine" to
"The Ultimate Helps One Drive Machine"
Sorry folks but not appreciating the modern technology going into todays vehicles.
You can turn every bit of it off. And try to find another car, in its class, that runs the Nürburgring in a 7:28:57.
@@g.dubyou6263 How fast a car goes around the Nurburgring is not a deciding factor when i choose a vehicle.
It is absolutely meaningless.
@@AruaBakayaro me either, I don’t live in Germany. But it definitely speaks to the capability of the car, in comparison to anything else in its class. Look at the ring times, and you will see it’s capability is on par with the 911s and other cars that should be way more capable.
@@AruaBakayaro No, it's not meaningless. In fact, given how well-rounded a car needs to be to achieve a top Ring time, it's as meaningful a performance metric as it gets. A car capable of a 7:28 Ring time is going to be faster than a car capable of 7:38 or 7:48 or 7:58 etc on the backroads, at your local track, the highway onramp, and anywhere else you test the performance. You don't have to literally take the car to Germany and do the 7:28 yourself to feel the difference.
Performante feo ultimo
Is it me, or does the big arse BMW grill look like a big arse? ( ¡ ) .. with the logo being the hole...?
Rather get a Lexus is500. At least it'll still be running in 10 years.
Not even in the same class. If you’re looking for something as slow as the is500, in a bmw, you’d need to step down to a M340i which still beats the is500.
S58 is proving very reliable (even tuned), it's an improved version of the B58 which was worked on and approved for use by Toyota in the Supra. That's good enough for me.
@@MrSchn3ll good thinking with Toyota approving the B58. I hadn’t even taken that into consideration. I wish the S58 was as advanced as the B58 is in the aftermarket scene. They have Supras that are full on drag cars.
Love the grill. 👍
Disgusting grille
Then buy it in black without chrome!
I will take it the way it is. If the ugly duckling does not appeal to everyone, the better for the rest of us to keep the inventory and the price down. I like the way it looks Thank You. And if looks is all you're looking for ... keep moving. Keep your divorce lawyer on speed dial.
You would think so, but the only people who insult it are on the internet.
People love this car.
Looks like bugs bunny.
Angry birds pig nose
Probably the worst color on the new m3....
My God, that car is ugly
Terrible reliability
Actually no the car has a better problems per 100 units off factory than most American or Japanese performance cars bmw killed it with reliability of the new M3 you live in the past

🤣🤣🤣 it’s ugly. Coming from Mr. Subaru WRX. Hilarious.
Nah fugly except the rear view
Great car, but who can get over that butt ugly bigass front grill (only a mother, or designer, could love)?? Fire the designers!
Totally a different story in person. I almost barfed when I first saw photos. Now I love it!
Who cares how fast it is when it’s ugly. Old m cars looked much better.
Typically BMW overpriced. Almost 90k foe a car that most drivers will never be able to use its performance on regular roads.
