    Pro tip from someone who lived in their wrangler for a few years while searching for land. I am 5'10 245 lbs as a reference. My method retains the seat and is just as comfortable. Tilt the passanger seat forward. Stuff the space under the seat with socks underware jeans ect. Line the entire cargo area of thr jeep with clothing. Was easy for me because I had all my clothes with me. About 14 changes of clothes. After lining the cargo area and filling the gap under the seat with clothes I put a sleeping bag on top, or you can use a foam pad. I was able to sleep with my feet at the passanger seat and my head at the back drivers wheel. My legs we slightly bent but I usually sleep this way anyhow. Mucj easier and you can still retain both seats for picking up those hot sheilas hitch hiking.

    I will be starting this process today in my 2008 Wrangler so that I can head to the Arizona dessert for a few weeks . I have a custom van but it's a gas guzzler. I'm heading to Arizona then on to highway 101 and highway 5 to Oregon. Should be pretty comfy. Thanks.

    That little trick using the step side to hold the ply was worth a thumbs up.

    Great solution. I have a 2004 TJ, and I was looking for a simple, self-contained option. I have found it. Thanks.

    I have also been thinking about this and was thinking a hammock was the solution. As the back of the of Jeep maybe filled by small fridge, cooker, food and general kit. For much longer trip. But maybe this just might be fine. If elevated still keeping some storage underneath. Thanks for explaining and keeping it simple and doable. Cheers

      I've used a hammock successfully in my Wrangler, diagonally from from passenger side to rear driver side. I'm 6'3 and there wasn't a lot of excess room, but with some experimentation I was able to get it tight enough.

    Good video. Just what I have been looking for. I have a 2-door JK and travel alone. Would like to sleep inside to avoid contact with human and animal types that could do harm. The problem with the JK is that with all the computerized things that they do, there might be a problem with removing the passenger seat due to the air bags and the car computer getting confused. I am 5'9" and with the back seat removed my feet stick out the back end by 4 inches. I need to lie flat due to arthritis in the lower back. The front seat of the JK does not recline flat either in the forward or backward positions. After watching your video, I will have to reconsider doing the same. Thanks again, and thumbs up!

      Not sure if this applies to your jeep but with all my seats in my 05 Rubicon I reclined back the passenger seat so the head rest was the height of my dash (which is same as my bench seat in back) I then fit a full 6ft cot in. Front lays on and is supported by dash (mines flat and leveled across) Middle is supported by reclined seat and the back is supported by the bench seat. My bench seat in the back does not have head rest and is same leveled height across. Obviously not much head room but I was able to keep all seats. Felt like a small bunk in camper. Was nice to have full length and have my nice cot mattress. Can also be folded up and stored in back storage as well if you don't want to leave it laying across as you travel. You could also build a brace in the back as extended legs for the back of the cot if you wanted to take out the back bench seat for more storage.

      @Blue Savage See comment by Austen Mac. This might work for you. I have a 2016 JK and not sure if this will work. Will try it out. Sort of wished I could have afforded the 4 door JK. But I like the compactness and departure angles of the 2-door. If you figure out a way. Let me know.

      @@Austen.McDaniel Thanks for your comment. I have the 2 door 2016 JK, and have only had the rear passenger seat in place for4 hours. You have got me thinking. From what you say, recline the front passenger seat as far back as it will go, place the head of the cot on the dash and the foot of the cot on the reclined rear passenger seat. I never thought of that. I am on my way now out to the garage to put the rear passenger seat back in and see it I can make it work. THANKS MUCH!

      @Blue Savage The back of the cot I would put down the legs and they would hang over the back of the bench seat. Because of this I took off the legs on the front because those have to be folded up and it made for a uneven and more slippery base. Also I put a towel down on the dash to stop any sliding or potential scratching. I never used any thing else to hold it down or stuff like that. The cot in used was just a plain cheap one from Walmart. It was green 6ft but that's all I remember. Hope some of that helps!

      @@H.pylori yeah I've not been in a jk in a while and can't recall what the back looks like. If the bench doesn't have head rest or they come out leaving it flat across you should be good. Be sure to put a towel down on the dash or something to help stop potential sliding or scratching. I never had any issues but just a precaution. Hope it works!

    How about installing a sturdy rack may be foldable to lengthen to you height on the roof with a tent to sleep rather comprising on the seat space.

      @Franaflyby 5 лет назад

      I thought about that too. Saves you from removing the seat right?

    Damn steering will is on the wrong side. 😂
    On a more serious note... Was that "Renegade" a factory option in a TJ down under?? If so... I'm a little jealous. Last Jeep I owned that was a Reny, was a 1986 CJ7 I had back in high school... Which was the last year for them here.
    I've been debating starching off the Rubicon stickers on my JK, and making my own personal pseudo-Renegade.
    Oh, and I love the video. Very trick work!

      Roof top tents can be useful for a recreational use but if ur in the city you don’t want to tell everybody around hey I’m sleeping in here also this way there is no tent set up or tear down required in an emergency situation you can just get up and drive with this set up not to mention this way will keep you warmer in cold climates
