When I got back in to this 6 yrs ago bought the Testo probe kit aand has served me well or so I thought until seeing your quick technique of equalizing pressures in the system thru the manifold.
Old school ways still have their place in this new tech world!

There was a pandemic of techs in the company I work for who weren't vacuuming their open system repairs. My boss at the time had to replace TXVs almost everyday, or filter driers. They eventually fired most of them, once my boss became the service manager. It's annoying to know people think purging the system is the same as "vacuuming" it. That's like saying Goodman is "as good" as Trane. (Betcha those are the same people who don't vacuum the system).
    Great video as always Dave.

Awesome video! For the New guys out there ( ftngot ) When u see a sight glass that has turned yellow or white center dot - It takes A Huge amount of Moisture to turn one of those yellow or white. Allways Recover All the Refrigerant, Blow the shit out of the Lines with dry nitrogen , Blow at Least 1 Full bottle of dry nitrogen through the system , backwards and forewords preferably , Blow in the receiver with nitro, through the Evaps & out the suction side to atmosphere. Install New drier & sight glass. Evacuate under 500 microns. Recharge with New Refrigerant. A Yellow dot indicates a Totally saturated drier with moisture. Drier cannot accept anymore moisture. Most likely from unit running in a vacuum for long periods of time & pulling in moisture from a pinhole leaking evap.
    Dave ,
Cool light im getting one of those. Thanks for the heads up on that. 👍😎
re: Sheet Metal - When ever I see corners, I ALLWAYS , ALLWAYS , ALLWAYS Fold em over too. 👍 I'm kind of psycho about it. Been stuck so many times. It sucks. Awesome Tip ( Ftngot )

Had moisture in a few supermarket racks had to heat up the valves with hot water as they would freeze up and chase it back to cores up at the rack. Put in high water cores and after a couple weeks of chasing it you could even get the indicator back to Dry.

Hey Dave, just a thought, given the head pressure and the moisture indicator I am wondering if you had un-condensibles in the system, last time I saw air in a system I had a really high head and moisture. I’ve been using mechanics trouble lights with LED bulbs for a long time, they never burn out and the “battery” never dies.... I still wet rag too. Fricken sheet metal, get a tetanus shot! Thanks.

Call me old school ( I learned from my father) but I always flare in driers on cases and walk-ins, just makes it easier and quicker to replace after pumping down to change a valve or fix a leak. I guess when your charging by the hour might as well make it take longer 😂😂🤣😂🤣... I always burn driers in on self contains obviously.

Yup what ever works for u do it. 1980s I think of flared TXVs, way before my time but I still see them all the time. I would never flare a valve in unless just replacing it with what was there. I just like to make it easier the next time, chances are that Poe oil is full of moisture and it will take an oil change or a few filter drier changes to get it all out. But I don't think I wouldn't mess with it if it's running, my guess is it will be time for a new condensing unit soon don't think that pump is long for this world... Pretty cool what u and other guys on RUclips are doing for refrigeration and hvac, I wish it was around when I was first starting, good work. 👍
