It'll be interesting to hear this. I got the Odin 2 and RP4P both pretty recently (for a LOW price) but am still putting off setting them up; been sick and I am lazy and remember it being a pain just to learn the Linux handheld stuff. Will in the coming days for sure though. I would assume the RP5 isn't worth it having these two devices (screen looks great though). I'll wait for the Odin 4 or RP8 or something as the emulators catch up. That or get a modded Swtich for Switch and then the older stuff plays well enough on what I have.
"DNA Duo OLED, I love you, I don't know if anyone heard this part, ending theme music, Number 2" I heard that part because I watched the whole video review. I thought you made a lot of good points today. I also liked how you subverted Betteridge's Law of Headlines. According to said law, any headline sporting a question mark at the end of it, both real or implied, can be answered with a single "No". In this case, I don't see how anyone could say anything besides a hearty, "Heck yeah!" A few assorted thoughts: "I'm not going to talk about the Retroid Pocket 5" ... Proceeds to talk about the Retroid Pocket 5 ... Never change, Jordan. I mean that with all sincerity. While I think the Pocket Mini exists in its own world, the Pocket 5 very much is an Odin2 Base competitor. The 5 gets the better screen and a slightly more manageable size for $75 less, while the Odin2 Base has a much better SoC, more RAM, a more comfortable looking shape to hold, a screen that is very good in its own right, and the knowledge that you're buying proven hardware. Being that they're competing in the marketplace, it would be irresponsible to not mention your views about the Pocket 5 in this video. You did the right thing, even if it might offend dozens of people. "Motion blur..." I'm old enough to remember when video game companies would intentionally add motion blur to their racing games and call it "sense of speed". Other than intentional blur like in EA's NASCAR games, I struggle to notice motion blur. It exists for other people; but, not for me. I'm not sure why that is, but, this is the one time I've got the long end of the stick, so I'll take it! "... So then Retroid sent me a DHL shipping form and pretty much told me to shove my Mini up..." Thank you for the update on their CS and return policies. This isn't the update I was hoping to hear; but, it is what it is. I guess this is why the upcharge to buy from a reputable third party like GoGameGeek or DroiX is worth it. It's like fire insurance on your house. It's better to throw away a few bucks on something you end up not needing than to need it and be told to go pound sand. "The Odin2 is made for bigger hands" I've got bigger hands, so I'd probably appreciate that.
You can set the vram to 8gb on the ROG Ally Z1E. In fact that’s what I basically keep it set at nowadays after playing around with 4/5/6/auto trying to see which was best. I think it was changed in an upgrade a few months back, along with the custom TDP/fan curve options. And yea I find 8gb for the OS to still be adequate while allowing me to run higher end games much better. Switched it to that after trying to run ghosts of Tsushima dc and with 8gb I can play it on high settings very well. And most recently I’ve been messing around with TOTK on yuzu with a few emu tweaks and with 8gb vram it runs almost flawlessly (aside from a few hiccups at first while loading in textures but after that it’s smooth and very playable. And yea I have it on my switch too but I haven’t wanted to open it lol)
Btw I have the exact same SFC themed 16 bit Odin 2 pro as you, so u obv have very good taste lol. And I tend to agree with most of what you said about it; that it still holds up rly well to these newer handhelds, along with the overhype surrounding the RP5. Like only 8gb LPDDR4 and the outdated snapdragon 865 is not great.. not to mention the rp mini only has 6gb! Like who are they making that for? My RP4 pro with pretty similar specs struggles with some lower end basic games so I don’t see why they didn’t improve the 5 more. I guess it’s ok for like $250 but nothing to write home about. I’d just tell ppl to get a used Odin 2 or even a lightly used Ally or deck for not that much more. Like I got my Ally “like new” w the box, grip, 256gb SD (which surprisingly still works!), and hard case back in April for $450 and you can find them for even less now, esp on local marketplaces. It’s one of the best purchases I’ve ever made- I love my Ally and can’t wait to buy the Ally 2 when it comes out (I didn’t feel like the X was a big enough upgrade to make it worth it for me). I use it like every day and am still blown away by what it can do in such a (relatively) small package. Like honestly, I nvr could’ve imagined I’d have anything close to it as a kid where I have complete game libraries of basically all my childhood consoles at my fingertips in such a powerful handheld PC! It’s truly remarkable
Oh yea, so you think it’s worth the upgrade then? I RLY like the Ally X but being I got my Z1E on the later side just this past spring I couldn’t justify the costs.. I mean I love the addition ram it’s got (tho I would’ve much rather seen 32gb which I suspect they purposely held back for the 2 to have as an incentive to buy it), plus the full size 2280 m.2 ssd slot and how they fine tuned the controls w the tighter sticks and better d-pad. But being it still has the same chipset as the original Ally is the reason I ended up holding off on it. I hear a lot of people tout the bigger battery too but since I rarely use it unplugged, that’s not as big of a factor for me as it seems to be for a lot of other ppl. So I’d appreciate ur opinion on this as I am open to getting the X (esp as it now looks like it may be some time before a full Ally 2 comes out - like AT LEAST a full year) I just thought I should maybe try to cool it and be financially responsible for once in my life and wait since the X isn’t THAT big of an upgrade and more of a revision than full on successor. But that being said, if you can make a stronger case for it I’m sure part of me would love to use it as an excuse to justify getting the X lol.
Ha I have never noticed input lag on my Odin 2, I have however noticed this on my main desktop once with a controller I tried on it but not on the Odin 2 at all. I think that's one of those he said she said scenarios then people get it in their minds that because someone said this, they too have this issue and make it a thing. Sort of like the hysteria effect when 1 person thinks they're sick and everyone else around them or in that town thinks the same thing even though it was actually all in that one persons head.
YES!!! IT IS!!!!!! for me personally: Odin 2 aka THE GOAT!! ps: great video (as always my friend!!) pps: what about your display project? hope that everything goes well and that you don't lose out because of this “little” incident recently!
I really wish someone could show me what input lag this device has because I have never experienced this on the Odin 2 or even the motion blur that I mentioned.
We have gone thru this before Jordan, you don't feel it at all, a lot of people do, at the end of the day we are all on the same page, Odin 2 and Odin 2 Portal are both the same device, so everything you are saying about how good it is I completely agree with. 🍻🤘🏼🔥
@tonyrosario1940 oh yeah I think I do recall you specifically stating this lol. I don't remember everything though especially right now as my main focus is the DNA Duo and my wedding next week.
The answer is: it depends. For price to performance, Odin 2 is best out there. If you're after the best performance (on android), money is no object then the Ayaneo Pocket Evo is the go, but you'll pay the premium . Best screen? Pocket Evo or the Retroid Pocket 5, both being OLED will be your picks. Need something smaller? RP5 or Odin 2 Mini.
please don't use so much music over your speech. the levels are way off, and it's difficult to hear you at the start without getting blasted with bad music. thank you as always for the videos.
Do you have your base up really high because I test my audio against 2 different headphones, and my TV to make sure audio is decent and I can hear my voice more than the music in the intro at -20db. I even turn down the main audio to -35 now because so many used to say my background music over powered my voice lol. Thanks for the tips though.
I’d agree that Odin 2 is still the best but the controls on the Odin 2 aren’t the best. I need them to be alittle bigger and put in a more ergonomic spot
@@DNAMobileGaming oh no, no reason to get offended online lol the ergonomics for the mini is great and I love it but its a a tad small and if they were to make the mini a tad taller with a 4inch screen, the ergonomics would be perfect for me. sure if I feel like playing Stick top focused games its not perfect but for games where I prefer dpad the odin 2 would not be picked up over the mini. like when my Portal comes in I might like dpad games on that because the dpad is bigger and inset enough to where it'll be comfortable. but dpad gaming on Odin2 turns me off because it strains my thumb reaching since its not inset at all.
@@DNAMobileGaming im honestly happy that these companies are starting to make these controls more inset because when ur making small handhelds you need the ergonomics to be on point otherwise they're barely servicable and inset dpad or sticks really helps with that issue.
I think as i get older, i have less and less reason to have something pocketable. As an adult, my car IS my pocket. I can leave it there and play it whenever. I wont be playing the RP5 while in line or something
Im gonna wait till the portal comes out and some reviews are in. Got a 406v but its defective, so im replacing that with a miyoo a30 for rhe short term and then the portal will be my at home omni-console
I'm waiting too for this exact reason I mean on paper the portal is perfect and if you don't own an Odin 2 it might be perfect. But honestly I think Ayn needs to fix some stuff first before releasing a second handheld.
I would do it however it depends how soon you want your device as Retroid has really screwed up. I ordered the 5 not going to lie about that, and I ordered it with a second Mini. I asked them to cancel my Mini in that order and refund me for the current Mini. They canceled both, so I re ordered the 5 by itself. I then questioned them why they canceled my 5 and Mini order and when should I expect my refund for my red Mini. They canceled my second 5 order probably because they didn't read. Then I re ordered again 2 weeks ago found out Canada Post went on strike so I asked can I switch to DHL so it arrives. No answer for now 5 emails from the company.
Again, another great video. As a fellow canadian, i like how youre talking about canadian prices on handhelds and the duty. What part of canada are you from? Also, the dna duo, does it work for the rp4p?
I live in Southern Ontario that is all I'll share, my PO Box in the description is close to where I live lol. I like to share in Canadian mostly because I am Canadian unless the website says USD I'll say it in USD but share how much I spent in CAD just to confuse everyone lol. Glad to see some fellow Canucks as most of my viewers are from the USA and UK.
Why would I buy the OLED when I already have one? If you don't own any devices and want to wait until January or February then go ahead buy the OLED otherwise nothing special other than the screen.
Ah... You forgot the RaZeR Edge... lots of folks dismissed it... Even Arthur from AYA-NEO had to compare it with the Pocket Evo... in the Re-Release presentation... I already got myself an A-O2 Pro Black Edition... But I was looking other form factor... So, I picked the RaZeR Edge Tablet only as a special project packaging ...and paired it with the: BsP D8 Bluetooth Controller ( Sky Black or Star Space White Edition) The perfect Tablet form factor for the GameSir X-4 Aileron Bluetooth Controller... + a N-Switch carrying case... 🧐🤓😎
@DNAMobileGaming because it uses an IPS screen, the bezel is large. There should be 2 versions, a dpad on top and a dpad on the bottom, because it's a bit difficult to play retro games like NES, SNES using the dpad when it's in the bottom position
The joystick stacked directly over the D-pad is the uncomfortable part for some hands, you have to bend your left thumb back towards your palm to use it properly for retro games. It will bother some, and it won't bother others. The Portal, which is the exact same device, just larger with Oled screen, will have more spaced out controls for better ergonomics. 🍻
Apples to Oranges, if it's the Elite then why do I see it being called the 4 online too? Either way it's still supposed to be top tier even the Gen 3 I have in the Redmagic Nova is amazing but not logical for most to carry a 10.9 inch tablet around.
NGL Retroid always felt like a poor man's version of AYN to me. This is only one reason why I haven't bought any of Retroids devices in the past 4 years. 😕
Odin 2 has one the worst screens in the handheld scene. Input lag, washed, ghosting. A lot people talked about it on reddit as well, it looks like they put a low end screen from the early 2010s. Even on this video, seeing input lag and motion blur made me feel sorry for all these fan reviewers thinking it's the best device ever created when it has a screen quality of a nokia symbian phone xD
Never had issues with input lag on mine. Although my screen did have ghost touches (which is a common issue with this device unfortunately) but Ayn sent a new screen and I don't have any issues with it anymore. I do see some ghosting when navigating on menus but for some reason I don't notice this while gaming.
@@1993StrangeBoy of course. Your eyes will adjust to whatever quality the screen is. It's just a very cheap and outdated lcd from the early 2010s. Odin 2 portal comparisons with it's amoled display side by side will truly sour the Odin 2 and Odin 2 mini. Retroid Pocket 5 already did that though. RP5's screen side by side with Odin Portal 2 is still much better. Better color range. Portal 2 has a blue tint.
@@HunnysPlaylists positive. It looks pathetic right next to pocket 5s amoled panel. It's like they used a display that was already low end and dated in 2011 and charged you full price and you're trying to argue how it looks good compared to a 2024 oled screen. Stop, it's embarrassing

Sucks! I hope they fix it sooner than later. Good luck with development man, all the best.
That or get a modded Swtich for Switch and then the older stuff plays well enough on what I have.
we threw some shade at retro game corp there?
Ha idk what that means but yes I mentioned him in the video because he did a good job with his RP5 1 week later review.
@@DNAMobileGaming lol throwing shade means criticize someone.
Must be a slang term I never grew up with.
@@DNAMobileGaming its newer lol. Like last 10 years.
@jimmymac2292 must be out of the loop then lol
"DNA Duo OLED, I love you, I don't know if anyone heard this part, ending theme music, Number 2"
I heard that part because I watched the whole video review. I thought you made a lot of good points today. I also liked how you subverted Betteridge's Law of Headlines. According to said law, any headline sporting a question mark at the end of it, both real or implied, can be answered with a single "No". In this case, I don't see how anyone could say anything besides a hearty, "Heck yeah!"
A few assorted thoughts:
"I'm not going to talk about the Retroid Pocket 5"
"Motion blur..."
I'm old enough to remember when video game companies would intentionally add motion blur to their racing games and call it "sense of speed".
Other than intentional blur like in EA's NASCAR games, I struggle to notice motion blur. It exists for other people; but, not for me. I'm not sure why that is, but, this is the one time I've got the long end of the stick, so I'll take it!
"... So then Retroid sent me a DHL shipping form and pretty much told me to shove my Mini up..."
Thank you for the update on their CS and return policies.
"The Odin2 is made for bigger hands"
I've got bigger hands, so I'd probably appreciate that.
Yup I know all of this cool stuff, the X has impressed me as a owner of the original Z1E
Winlator Setup Guide coming soon?
I don't plan on it at all, no point really in my opinion however there are many guides on RUclips about Winlator.
@DNAMobileGaming 🥲
how is the input lag on the odin 2? is it as bad as people say making playing games very difficult
@@DNAMobileGaming thats good to hear, thanks for your quick reply!
YES!!! IT IS!!!!!!
for me personally: Odin 2 aka THE GOAT!!
ps: great video (as always my friend!!)
pps: what about your display project?
hope that everything goes well and that you don't lose out because of this “little” incident recently!
Odin 2 is awesome, just want better control ergonomics and less input lag possibilities . The Portal should alleviate those issues for me! 🍻🤘🏼🔥
Input lag is so low it's not an issue
@ perhaps for you, but for me and others, it is 🍻
I really wish someone could show me what input lag this device has because I have never experienced this on the Odin 2 or even the motion blur that I mentioned.
Yes, but only until the Aya Neo Pocket Evo arrives.
Hell yeah!
please don't use so much music over your speech. the levels are way off, and it's difficult to hear you at the start without getting blasted with bad music.
thank you as always for the videos.
I second this, could barely understand you over the music at the start
@trentmoodyy weird because I even just listened to it on my S24 Ultra and all I could hear was my annoying voice 😅
Has anyone mentioned you wrote "GOD" instead of "GOOD" in your thumbnail?
That was on purpose as it's a God Handheld 🙌
@DNAMobileGaming ahh, my bad
I’d agree that Odin 2 is still the best but the controls on the Odin 2 aren’t the best. I need them to be alittle bigger and put in a more ergonomic spot
Do you find the RP Mini ergonomics perfect for you though? Just an honest question don't want you to get the wrong idea lol
Yes. Retroid doesn't even come close
Sure sounds like somebody is getting a nice check from Ayn to just shit all over Retroid 😂
I wish they would pay me, but $6 CAD per sale isn't anything to write home about.
isn't it the other way around?
I just one for $320, the Pro. I think it was a good deal.
That's a great deal as long as it's in great condition.
Yup
I’m tempted to cancel the rp5 and get Odin 2 but may be too late cos could start shipping any day
I would do it however it depends how soon you want your device as Retroid has really screwed up.
Just get both looool do it
@@DNAMobileGaming Holy cow that's annoying. I'm sorry about that.
@@DNAMobileGaming uniuni is the canadian carrier once it arrives in country
@@DNAMobileGaming you need to pay $1 to switch to dhl it’s on their website
Again, another great video. As a fellow canadian, i like how youre talking about canadian prices on handhelds and the duty. What part of canada are you from? Also, the dna duo, does it work for the rp4p?
I live in Southern Ontario that is all I'll share, my PO Box in the description is close to where I live lol. I like to share in Canadian mostly because I am Canadian unless the website says USD I'll say it in USD but share how much I spent in CAD just to confuse everyone lol. Glad to see some fellow Canucks as most of my viewers are from the USA and UK.
Short Answer : Yes
Final Answer : Why not Portal if u love Oled.
Why would I buy the OLED when I already have one? If you don't own any devices and want to wait until January or February then go ahead buy the OLED otherwise nothing special other than the screen.
Ofc it's still the best.
Ah...
You forgot the
RaZeR Edge... lots of folks dismissed it...
Even Arthur from AYA-NEO had to compare it with the Pocket Evo... in the Re-Release presentation...
I already got myself an A-O2 Pro Black Edition...
But I was looking other form factor...
So, I picked the
RaZeR Edge Tablet only as a special project packaging ...and paired it with the:
BsP D8 Bluetooth Controller ( Sky Black or Star Space White Edition)
The perfect Tablet form factor for the GameSir X-4 Aileron Bluetooth Controller...
+ a N-Switch carrying case...
🧐🤓😎
Dpad is too low and that bezzel....
What about the bezel? If the DPAD was any higher it would be too close to the joystick so not sure what you mean by that?
@tonyrosario1940 yeah i think odin 2 portal will be great for all type of games
Playback speed 1.25.. you’re welcome
Sorry you couldn't handle a raw thought out review rather than scripted time wasted reviews 😉
😂😂😂 did you just say emulation on this thing is better than on a steamdeck and has more potential
@warrenbadze nope I said this isn't comparable to a Steam Deck not sure what you heard 🤔
8 elite
not 8 gen 4
this naming stuff is out go my head
Apples to Oranges, if it's the Elite then why do I see it being called the 4 online too? Either way it's still supposed to be top tier even the Gen 3 I have in the Redmagic Nova is amazing but not logical for most to carry a 10.9 inch tablet around.
Honestly any ch company is just suspect by default.
Ha well hopefully one day we'll have the perfect handheld that can DO IT ALL!
No Y700 snap 8 gen 3 & G8+ is a lot better.
I like my Nova Redmagic too just have yet to share anything on the channel about the balls it has lol
NGL Retroid always felt like a poor man's version of AYN to me. This is only one reason why I haven't bought any of Retroids devices in the past 4 years. 😕
Ha that's a funny way to put it, I mean the 5 does look nice but the glass cover is really reflective and not for me.
@@DNAMobileGaming I'm on the fence right now.
Interesting
Portal 2 has a blue tint.
are you sure?
@@HunnysPlaylists positive. It looks pathetic right next to pocket 5s amoled panel. It's like they used a display that was already low end and dated in 2011 and charged you full price and you're trying to argue how it looks good compared to a 2024 oled screen. Stop, it's embarrassing
You come across as very condescending and arrogant.
Why thank you for your kind words of criticism 😁
Can you play mega man x on mobile with the controllers even though it doesn't have controller support asking for a friend. It would be cool.
If the game only has touch screen controls, there is on screen button mapping on the Odin 2! I actually play a couple games this way like Genshin Impact was one of them for a while and another game that was a cool platformer.
@DNAMobileGaming do you notice a difference while playing this way or nah? I Genuinely want to know I'll also be playing that game as well to. Lol 😆
Please just emulate game android ver very bad port needed wifi to run some games not natives android ver of at all.
