Just spent an hour trying to figure out a problem with Currency and how to show it properly! (I'd forgotten after 4 months of 'Lockdown'!) Your tutorial showed me a 'right-click' which helped me in 5 seconds! I'd spent ages viewing instructions, manuals, youtube videos and phoning friends but YOU sorted it in an instant! Very helpful and you've saved me a sleepless night - and a bad temper too ! I'm now going to go back and learn more! Wish I'd found you 5 years ago !! Thanks again! And keep up the good work!
I have used Open Office spreadsheets to do my annual tax return about 3 times already but in the year between returns I forget how to use it! So it was really helpful to find this simple and easy to follow instruction for the basic stuff, which is all I need. Thank you!
There are millions of people out there who left school before the use of IT was commonplace, yet are now running businesses on their own. Have you noticed the amount of cloud based bookkeeping services now popping up like Quickbooks or Free agent? They are good but over a year can cost hundreds of pounds in subscription fees. And you can just imagine in a few years once they have got you, the price will just go up and up. Spending a little time learning this will save you money and allow you to understand your business better. These tutorials are an absolute gold mine of information and value.
+Michael Kane no not done that before but you should be able to do this yourself using the logic from tutorial. Try to think about what data you need to capture first, also if you want to capture daily, weekly or monthly, capture millage in miles or Km, cost for fuel etc.
Just wanted to extend to you a big thank you. I've never understood how to set up a spreadsheet before. It was like entering a maze. Your Tutorial was very easy to follow. You have made me very happy. Many Thanks for the info.
DCP London Web Designers - Two questions for you: 1) What are the differences, if any, between open office and MS Excel? 2) Would you recommend LibreOffice?
open office is free, excel is very similar but paid for application libre office is also good, check my RUclips channel for libre office calc tutorial.....
More and more lately, I've been learning that if I look hard and long enough, I can find an answer to my challenge. Growing up, I found out that I didn't think like the other kids and would get in trouble in school. This extended to my later years as a young man, when I couldn't hold down a 9-5 job. So I went into business for myself doing yardwork. I worked and with the help of grant money, pulled myself up out of homelessness. I've been wanting to educate myself on spreadsheets, but my version of WORD is dated way back to 2002 or 2003; and RUclips simply doesn't have that much information on it; or I just haven't figured out how to comb out the useful stuff from the junk. Just recently I discovered that I had Apache Open Office 4; and wondered what it was all about and if it had a spread sheet. It did. I want to use this spread sheet to create a budget for both my personal and my landscaping (yard work for now) business. Thank you so much for creating these tutorials! Dave/Nate/Knave
This was a very helpful and straight forward tutorial. I need to build my spreadsheet skills and you explained the basics quite well. I have Open Office on my computer so I was able to follow along with your video using OpenOffice Calc with ease. Thanks alot!!
Great information & very helpful. Question: How did you get the blue color in your menus and toolbars at the top? I'd sure like mine to look like that. Thanks so much!!
Hi Rebecca Brown select the price column by left clicking on the column letter and then select the bold button. This will remove bold from the whole price column. The select the cell only with the price label and then select bold agian to make price label bold only :)
thank you for this it has been very helpfully I do have one question when I export date in open office excel it puts a space in front of each text in all boxs how can I remove this
good start....thanks mate.... even with the tute full size seeing the box data was so small... fyi... Because of you I"ve got my first SS to build on and experiment with. Lawson di Ransom Canyon
When I use the auto filter the cells appear that I choose, but underneath the results are just gray area. There are no rows and columns, so I can choose to sum a column. How can I get empty rows and columns to show as they do on your video?
I tried that. At first it didn't work, but now it is working after doing that a few times. I guess I was doing it wrong the first few times. Thanks for your help!
Great video! I have an online business, so the application is a bit different, but the information was helpful. I do have a couple of questions; What if you enter the information in each line in random order and you later want to go back and put them in date order? Is there an automatic way to do that? Also, can you insert a line between existing lines if you left something out the first time?
Carol Braden-Williams - to sort columns please watch this tutorial: ruclips.net/video/epDaUQyaLU0/видео.html To inset a new line - Right mouse click on the row number (left slide of spreadsheet) and select insert new row.
I'm new to open office. I subscribed to your channel by the way :) My question is, how do we just limit the cells we like to work on? Like say only from A to E on the columns and 1 through 30 on the rows?
Hi, you cannot limit the amount of columns or rows, that not how spreadsheets work. You can increase the width of the columns so you only see columns A to E but I would not do this for the row.
When I have a price and I want to multiple a percentage, what is the formula/format that would be used? Formula used is =E2*1.3, but it does not calculate a total just leaves the equation in its place. Cell is formatted as a Number - General. Page as a bunch of order data and hate to have to retype if not necessary. If a blank sheet is opened and formal only is inserted then the formula is calculated. Hope this makes sense.
+Kelsey Stupka Hi, your formula looks correct, make sure all the cells in column which contain formula for formatted to number value as this seems to be the only reason the formula is showing a text rather than calculation.
When you drag down from a cell to auto fill, why is there no drop down menu after to choose between fill series and copy cells? Sometimes I don't want it to fill series, but copy the same value into every cell below.

If you click on 'All', it will show a list of all the choices existing in the column, in alphabetical / numerical order. You choose one from that list and it then displays all the rows which have that choice.
Hi,i am trying to do step by step what u do in ur tutorial, but i can't go to far cuz after i write the first 4 words: Data,Inviction nr. etc...then i drag with left click on the words and after that press B button...they don't look like it should and instead the 4 words transforms in Data in all for columns.I don't get it,what im doing wrong?
Great video. Question though - For some reason I'm so compelled to have an exact number of rows and columns, not an infinite number like a continuous scroll. Is there any way in OO to turn off that infinite scrolling feature? I really want to just see my data and not one big infinite sheet of cells! Thanks dude.
Wow, there's no way to just set a table that is say 5 x 5 or 10 x 10? I would think that is a really basic function. Do you know of any programs that allow for that?
Great tutorial even though it is a few years old. I am a new Open Office user and it has helped greatly!

+Upcamehill make sure you have a recent version of open office...
I am using 4.1.2. from October of 2015. I see that you posted the video in 2013. Maybe this can not be done in the later versions after 2013.
+Upcamehill try removing the auto filter and then make sure you select the whole row and add auto filter again
I tried that. At first it didn't work, but now it is working after doing that a few times. I guess I was doing it wrong the first few times. Thanks for your help!

Hi, you cannot limit the amount of columns or rows, that not how spreadsheets work. You can increase the width of the columns so you only see columns A to E but I would not do this for the row.
Another Note: If you want to print out data or create a PDF file then you can highlight only the data you want to print or convert into a PDF

Why does not appear the given data after i autofilter them? It just shows the All, Top 10 and Standard fliter?
Should work fine, not sure why is problem for you
Try making a basic spreadsheet and then try the auto filter to see if works, if not then download latest version of software
If you click on 'All', it will show a list of all the choices existing in the column, in alphabetical / numerical order. You choose one from that list and it then displays all the rows which have that choice.
Thank you !

Hi,
1. Make sure you have formatted the columns correctly
2. Also make sure the column is wide enough to display all content entered in cells
DCP Web Designers Thank you!
Thanks buddy.
+Rich Link thanks.
Great video. Question though - For some reason I'm so compelled to have an exact number of rows and columns, not an infinite number like a continuous scroll. Is there any way in OO to turn off that infinite scrolling feature? I really want to just see my data and not one big infinite sheet of cells! Thanks dude.
Hi, you can't stop the scrolling but you could zoom in to see less rows and columns. Use ctrl key and your mouse wheel to zoom in.
Wow, there's no way to just set a table that is say 5 x 5 or 10 x 10? I would think that is a really basic function. Do you know of any programs that allow for that?
You could use open office writer and create a fixed table but you won't have the functionality of a spread sheet.
Oh okay right on. Thank you :-)
