I love how he talked about his wife. And appreciating the parts of her that didn't make sense to him at first but then realizing how lovely those sides were as well :)

You are blessed to be there and experience the path you are following in place where the philosophy was born. Very encouraging for young generation. As this is the only way to live. May you continue to grow and share your knowledge and wisdom. 😇

I like the way Master Gu speaks. In regards to the first question/answer, it is very similar to understanding the cyclic nature of reality and the law of impermanence as frequently mentioned in Buddhism. Taoism and Zen actually have a lot in common. Been loving these Tea Time videos, keep it up!

Shouldn't be too surprising, since Zen is the result of the cross-pollination of Buddhism & Daoism! :)

I have just begun to learn about Taoism (with in the past few days), and I can say from watching your videos I feel it is something that I need in my life. I've been searching for this for a long time and didn't know it existed. Thank you for sharing this information for people like me who have never had the opportunity to know it.

They say love & happiness is what's missing in this world, when contentment and serenity is what's needed most. One can't love or be happy without being serene and content with themselves. Very insightful.

i agree with that.i believe the reason people lack compassion is lack of contentment with themselves and their lives/pasts wich makes them feel "justified" to project that pain onto others.

I like Master Gu's answer in the beginning but I think it shorts something. I was reading the Tao te Ching Chapter Twenty-Seven and I think that chapter explains it nicely. All things in life is a lesson and the one that does not treat it as a lesson is confused.

I would like to hear more about the taoist lifestyle and including the aesthetics (like the ribbon hanging from the side etc) I love the Tea Time series & look forward to more if you have the time. :-) The question I have is..since I began Mater Gu's meditation series, I began to venture off and imagine myself as a tree, then I become the bird on the tree and so forth, even becoming water. It is the most amazing experience, is this a Taoist meditation? I find myself so rested and more bonded with nature/cosmos (instead of feeling in this western society..so removed) I am so grateful to you and Master Gu.

I get from all this, see everything in perspective. even though things may seem ugly and wrong here and now, see it from a larger picture, and don't let the little things disturb your peace of mind.

I'm GianMarco, from Southern Italy. First of all, thanks for the great work you and Master Gu are doing to introduce Taoism in the western culture and in our lives.
I don't know if this comment section is the right place to ask a question, but I'll try. Two days ago, I saw a sparrow resting on a stem and it impressed me very much. It made me wonder how something so lively could lean against something so fragile without breaking it. Only yesterday I realized this scene perfectly answered to an existential question that's been going around my head for months. My question is: What does Master Gu think about this experience I had? And more in general, what does Taoism say about learning from nature and listening to it to answer our human questions?

Always know that if you can't handle a stressful situation that's bothering you, it just shows that your Yin, Yang needs balancing either through herbs or some other method.

Hi, I really like your videos and I'm watching them all in a row. You mentioned a couple of time the possibility to take a meditation course, however if I go to the online academy I only see the possibility to subscribe to a one year membership with everything included. Do you know if it is possible to access only part of the courses? Or do a shorter subscription to try and see if I like it? Thanks a lot!

Curious about your opinion on alcohol and drugs. I'd also be interested to hear about your stance on politics. Since politics is our social method of organising society it strikes me as being deeply important for people for whom nature and naturalistic living is very important given the fact that our political moment makes it very difficult to do this. Should a Daoist accept negative political realities as part of the universe's broader machinations or be an active and engaged political agent?

We are all human...and experience a multitude of emotions. Staying in Balance is the goal. But sometimes.....we go outside that Balance. But...the key is to get back in that Balance...and not live outside that balance point. I say...Return to Balance as quickly as you can.

Great video. However being compassionate doesn’t mean being a doormat. Sometimes we must recognize when a relationship, job, etc is just not working and must walk away for the sake of our own health; could staying in a “relationship” that’s not working be a sign of codependency? Perhaps the “other” is being too rigid and unwilling to change. I believe practicing being compassionate with oneself, first, may be to move on. Someone or something better will come along. Peace!

I have a question about Daoist gods and certain daoist rituals. My understanding is that daoism isn't an organizied religion and that religious ritural is much more of a Confucius idea not daoist. But at the daoist temples in China they have many gods and even have certain ways in which you are supposed to show respect. But I don't know if these gods have a place in my personal understanding of the dao
