    It may look a bit dorky today, but jn the old days, a Neckerchief Was worn daily, whether in the woods or city. It served the purpose of your net scarf, plus as many others as your lmagination can come up with. Bandage, hat, signal flag, sling or what all.
    It's a shame that style has removed it from the Scout uniform, and from Woodsmen in general. Out of the way, but available.

    Good kit as long as the individual is has knowlege,skills and resources to survive,or rough it a night or two in the woods.I watch your videos,and now recognize the need to hone my skills,as well as learning new skills,etc.I have included these 5 C needs in my day pack(and the other 5 C's).I purchased a decent 85% wool blanket(6 lbs),necessary tools(5 tool rule)ferro rod and other combustion devices,a 5x7 space blanket with grommets,container,and cordage(s).Not one hardware store,including chain stores like Lowes,carries Bank Line nor have they even heard of it.Great video,Dave.Keep em coming.

    " I thought it was something you carry for black powder arms"
    A haversack is a carryall for your personal gear.
    A shooting bag is for carrying items to make your
    muzzleloader go boom.
    Haversacks were used before knapsacks or backpacks
    were commonly used, and for sometime into the era of backpacks.
    It's really not a good idea to mix contents of the two because
    if you're reaching into your shooting bag to reload your one-shooter
    for that bear that's sizing you up, you don't want to grab a piece
    of camp gear instead of the components for reloading your firearm.

    That haversack looks similar in design to my Federal haversack I use in War Between The States reenacting. That reminds me, I need to check my kit for the 150th Resaca next weekend. :) I like that it has a pocket inside the flap. Does it have a liner on the inside as well?

  • @tbrew8222
    @tbrew8222 2 года назад

    Listen to this guy! No matter how prepared your pack is, have a knife and fire maker attached to your body as well. You might get swept in the water, critters may get into, or off with your pack without waking you.. you never know. also, dental floss makes very very compact cordage if you take it out of the dispenser, and can be used for fish line or sewing, as well as lashing.

    Where is your 12 ga. ?
    You got me hooked on the single shot with the adapters.
    I got the 10 c's plus a lot more.
    I believe in overkill, It's better to have to much than not enough.
    The way I see it if I do not need it I can trade it for something I need.
    The only thing I do not have is a high dollar knife but I do carry a few knives in my kit.

    I was curious but didn't want to ask about the haversack. I thought it was something you carry for black powder arms. the use would be for shot and patches or ammo. I also thought since you have your pack with the 5 c's and some redundant things on your person ,one would, While hiking you come across some elements for birds nest; tinder or things for the soup pot that you would squirrel them away in the haversack as you march on ( pretty bad I had to look up how you spell squirrel)
    Dave do you have a dedicated squirrel pouch or another haversack? pocket. You are pretty organized so I thought i'd just ask this time.

    • @saltydogsays
      @saltydogsays 10 лет назад

      The Pathfinder system teaches what we call Possum Mentality, it's basically gather what you need when you see it, that includes tinder and so on, that eliminates you depleting your kit items needlessly.

    • @shadowstalker130666
      @shadowstalker130666 10 лет назад +1

      I believe he sells the seperate elements of it in the store, but you'll need to get your own bag and assemble the kit yourself. And that was the standard sized haversack, but made of water repelling oilcloth instead of the standard material. It's a few bucks more, but well worth it for weather protection.
