Silent Queue Absolutely could’ve ruined the dynamic by trying to either play too subdued or overwhelm the songs. “Bull in the Heather” should be taught to drummers as a lesson on accentuating a song without drowning it in needless noise.
whoa whoa whoa Bob Bert was perfect "for their music" also. Confusion is Sex to Bad Moon Rising BB was perfect. I guessing you are meaning the rock and rolly Sonic Youth
He's my number one drummer of all time, he plays like Ringo Starr - for the music, he's innovative and keeps it simple when needed. Just he can fucking rock.
Its kinda funny looking at them and seeing a band that has grown up into there 30s yet still has kept the same hair style and still wears the clothes they wore in 91. Its perfect

They were in their late 40s to early 50s here, kiddo.
It's not that Thurston Moore still looks like a teenager, it's when he plays this song his cells return to the point when he was most filled with Angst. In his case he transforms into a 17 year old.
@@automatiste5017 Sonic Youth were a joke before Steve Shelley joined, they suddenly they made brilliant LPs and were the best rock band of the '80s....weird shit happens, I guess
Jason Schulman I don’t know about that - confusion is sex and bad moon rising are two fuckn great albums. I didn’t care much for them for a long time, but I’ve recently discovered them and they are great. I will agree that they aren’t as good as sister or daydream nation (and the drumming leaves much to be desired) but you should really take another listen. They’re good stuff
@@jaschul you do not know that. Confusion is Sex to Bad Moon Rising with Bob Bert allowed them to do Evol sister and so on and so on. Every day 1 knows that. Bob Bert was in Pussy Galore and look at that line up plus his project Bewitched.. SMH.
When I was a kid I used to laugh at people in their 40s who were "still stuck in the 60s". Well, good luck ever getting me out of the 90s. EVERYTHING was better and I ain't leaving!!!
Despite of my age, 46, i'm still whit all my rage (Smashing Pumpking citation), listening the eternal youths of rock! They never bored me.. last time i sow them, was in the beautiful Roman Teatre in Ostia Antica, near Rome. They played the full Daydream Nation album. Wonderful evening..... ❤
Before or after they added Die Kreuzen to that tour? the best bands in America working the underground together on the same amazing bill. We had it too good sometimes, back in the day.
Steve Shelly is criminally underrated. He’s a very unique drummer who is always solid and on point. Plays to the song. He really is a percussionist. Did things like using a maraca and hitting the snare drum with it. He’s basically to drums what Thurston and Lee are to guitar.
This song changed my life as a young female guitar player and bassist, Kim Gordon was a big influence . That bass isn’t called an SG bass (even though that’s the style) a friend of mine plays one and quickly corrected me with the correct name of it
Steve Shelley- one of the most underrated drummers in rock. He's perfect for their music.
True 👍

Plus he rocked in the Buzzcocks
whoa whoa whoa Bob Bert was perfect "for their music" also. Confusion is Sex to Bad Moon Rising BB was perfect. I guessing you are meaning the rock and rolly Sonic Youth
Real facts!
Steve fucking Shelley... what an underrated drummer.

Joey Harris i absolutely agree. whoever says the word kiddo or buddy i assume they have an inflated ego.
Thurston was around 46 at this concert. He looks like a 16 year old. Some people really don’t age
He's not 65 is he😮
@@fastandycHe is, and Kim Gordon is 70
Kim was like 50 at this point thats so crazy
You could even say he's Sonic Youth
Thurston was lost in time out! Not human!
I like how singing in key is never one of their main concerns.
Why should it be? It's sonic fucking youth !
It's not supposed to be...
Or standard guitar tuning
What are talking about? They may night be 100% on pitch but they're definately not off key..
Neither is melody. LOL
kim playing while wearing high heels is maybe one of the most punk things i've seen, she's so cool
All the female members of the band called Kim.
Babes In Toyland did that a lot(particularly Kat Bjelland and Michelle Leon)

If it'd camp you want you might as well have Lady Ga Ga.
I only watch this when I'm drunk and everytime I cry tears of joy, I love it so much.
Too much Calpol as a kid then.
hahaha same ! every time.
every fking time
still one of the most underrated groups of all time, them the pixies, and throwing muses. love sonic youth
I love throwing muses so much
Agreed 👍🏽
I couldn't agree more, especially about Pixies and Sonic Youth.
I'm at a strange point of my life and this feels like the only thing that keep me alive
this is exactly how I feel. I hope you are okay ;)
Hope the both of you are still with us.
It’s just a teenage riot mate
Don't kill yourself. You will regret it later.
Hope the both of you are doing better :)
Top notch drumming
Saw them touring Daydream Nation back in 88/89 and I've always thought they had one of the best drummers in the biz.

Noisy, quite disturbing, great rhythm, superb style. Fantastic group!
I'm of the personal opinion that "Teenage Riot" may be the greatest rock song ever recorded.
One of the greatest for sure!!! Love this song since its release back in 1988! "Daydream Nation" is a masterpiece !!!
Its up there really
me tooo
That particular distinction belongs to "I Got a Right" by the Stooges. But this one's good too.
For me it's "Little Fury Things" by Dinosaur Jr.
Their noise removes all my anxiety

no distraction of a light show or pyrotechnics,, just a great band being great
this song makes me feel so blissful for some reason
This is the perfect pop song, pop just has not caught up yet. And then the most underrated drummer in the history of music kicks in.
Thurston Moore keeps looking like a teenager!
livin the sonic youth
velouric and carpentar looks older every time
Same here. Saw them do Daydream Nation with Mudhoney supporting!

Except for his blown out voice perfect execution - nice when bands match their studio takes while delivering higher energy.
Arguably the best song of its era/genre.
Best live version I've seen so far
One of the best songs ever written. An ocean of emotional chaos. My life.

at what age does the law require them to drop the word "youth"
When we feel we are to old to listen to their music...never.
WordPress Guy that's exactly what an old person would say.
lol yup.
WordPress Guy and even then, there will always be kids in future generations that will (hopefully) be shown this music.

I'm so glad Thurston and I have kept our feathers.
Still my best 80's band, even if I am past 50.
thurston moore still looks like a teenager
It's good to know that some bands can still stir up some rowdiness in the pit. Scars complement's of Sonic Youth.
This is still something else, excellent.
