- In this video, I will give you a full tutorial on how to build a tesla coil. It will also explain how a tesla coil works. To wind the coil and build the capacitor, watch my previous videos. Good luck building.
Winding wire for your tesla coil:

Camera that I used to take the long exposure pictures:
amzn.to/2vATuXE
Here are a few good soldering irons to use:
A small cheap iron- amzn.to/2vG9I06
A nice soldering station- amzn.to/2fIwh05
Stuff you need for circuit board etching:
Copper Clad board- amzn.to/2fIfdr6
Ferric Chloride Etchant- amzn.to/2vFAEgb
My editing computer:

If you want a ZVS driver, but dont feel like building one, you can buy this:
amzn.to/2fIfQkn
Nice job, good results, great vid. TFS
Thanks a lot for this project
glad I sub your work is awesome
Thanks for the Sub!
Yikes, these can really mess with your cameras, but an awesome build! Thumbs up!
Intro was hypnotic
Very helpful
Thank you
do you connect the one end of the secondary coil just to your houses ground or where? (Sorry for my bad english im german :D)
+User 820 I connected it to a 100cm^2 metal plate on the floor
I made a tesla coil. The secondary has about 500 turns. The primary has 4 turns. I powered it at the same way by using a zvs driver at 30 V. But I'm not getting large sparks as yours. Can you tell me why ?
Btw I used only one homemade capacitor like you used. Is it the reason I'm not getting large arcs ?
If you have a much more diameter it has more power
@@ElIsraelJijijiji the diameter of my secondary coil is 3.4 cm
@@cisarvialpando7412 mine is like 6cm diameter and has a 5 inch spark
what Variac do you use? I'd love to build a Tesla coil but also am like 12 and don't have a job so money is tight.
Awesome!
Could I replace the ZVS with an ark lighter?
I don’t really have a street lamp transformer on hand and am kinda confused about the whole ZVS thing on the whole.
I think an ark lighter would provide adequate voltage but I’m not quite sure about amperage do you think this could work
Hi Tanner Tech,
Amazing Coil you have I too have planned to build a coil with a zvs driver at 12v and 7A with a flyback and a 800 Turn secondary will I get same sparks as you?
+syamala raj Maybe, I used 42 volts at about 12 amps to power my ZVS driver. You should try. Good luck!
Tanner Tech 800 secondary turns aren't enough. Best is to use a TV flybacktransformer. Cheap power supplies are ones from servers. You can buy then cheap on EBAY (~8€ each, you can put then in serie, with an safety diode,). My ones have 12V and 57A.
Nice sharing👍
stupid question.... what happen if you touch the spark? is it dangerous? or is it like those violet wand ?
Sweet i gotta do this for my self. Very cool Tanner.
List the materials plz all
And lastly tanner i am using a High voltage generator from my taser,i am little confused but can i use that thing?
i have the capacitors, a 1200 turn secondary coil, zvs driver and flyback transformer, and a 30v dc input, will work or do i need a variac
+Vincent Balmont It will work with the DC input, the variac is there so you can adjust the power output. Good luck! Make sure to pay a video when you run it!
thanks, i should have it finished next week, i will make a video when its running, your videos are amazing
how did you ground the secondary coil?
my coil has very small sparks, like the first version you did, i tried changing the primary coil, but i cant get it to improve. the spark gap works, very bright and loud, there seems to be a lot of sparks coming from in between the primary and secondary coils, i put in a page protector like in your video but it still does it, any ideas?
+Vincent Balmont Did you spray or paint the final wound coil in enamel coating?
actually it should be varnished, (i bought a prewound coil)
+Vincent Balmont I just used clear spray on lauqer
grounded it to a steel post outside, when i get it running properly i will make it look better

Superb can u say me how much in the input voltage
How much power does you supply .....?
What diameter pvc pipe bro?
Awesome!!
Hi Tanner Tach , do you use DC to AC inverter or transformer?
+Kanaka Rikudou I use a transformer and bridge rectifier to get 40v dc for the flyback transformer driver. This then acts like a high frequency inverter that drives the flyback. This produces the high voltage for the Tesla coil.
thanks
+Kanaka Rikudou your welcome
Do you also make DC to Ac inverter?
+Kanaka Rikudou I haven't yet, but I am actually planning on making a 1000W dc to ac inverter within the next month. The video will probably be out in 2-3 weeks.
Hey tanner what if I use the arc generator from aliexpress, will it do best?
I wish mine worked that well...
How (if there is a somewhat simple way) could you make this musical?
Tl494 or sg3525an ic's to give you PWM
So how do i make a time machine out of this?
Lolz
What transistors did you use on your flyback driver? Because i've had a few issues with them heating up too much, and i think it might be a problem with excess current or possibly not enough gate voltage. I am using IRFP250n's if you would like to know that for future guidance.
+Scotlahn Mccallister I am using those same transistors. They usually run cold. Maybe your primary coil does not have enough turns?
Tanner Tech Hmm, well it has about 8, so maybe it has too many. I also am only using about 2 nF of capacitance so that might be leading me to a significantly different result than yours.
+Scotlahn Mccallister You need a lot more capacitors on that thing. It needs to be 680nF. Your driver will run at too high a frequency. I use the rectangular caps out of TVs.
is it ok to touch the lightnings?
David Fidiles that's what I want to know. I think the current would be very low but I don't want to try first
it is not safe to touch the lightings because its very low frequencey arcs which penetrate your skin very deeply and may also kill u
+a.k.mohan o It's actually the opposite, it is very high frequency. It is relatively safe to touch. You will just get a slight RF burn.
What gauge does the copper wire for the secondary coil need to be, does it matter?
I've seen recommendations for 30 AWG magnet wire, but as long as you include the gauge in your calculations, it shouldn't matter. If you do happen to be using the flyback from a CRT, you can find some magnet wire in there.
Why dont you ADD A bigger metal toroid, that Will increase The length of your sparks as well
Can you make it musical
Are you a Amateur Radio operator?
Variac amper ?
Where do i connect the secondary coil?
+kenechi alviar The bottom part goes to ground, the top part goes to a wire sticking out of the top.
Oh i forget the symbol ty
Good 👍
ЛАЙК
Can it be seen in daylight?
I need schematic diagram
How many volte input
Great that it is messing with whatever it is you recorded this with.. lol
There streamers not sparks buddy!!
1:17 "i put these in parallel series" Oxymoron
I mean that there are two pairs of parallel capacitors in series.
Half the shit in this video you dont even explain to us. Instructions are really hard to follow
Please change your intro it kinda gets on my nerves
+DanielTheJedi-The_King_Of_Stupidity what would you suggest?
I would suggest a slideshow of some of your most cool projects
But I don’t have an intro I’m still working on mine
But just so you know I didn’t man to be rude
Mean sorry
Clean your finger nails😆
Can u change the colour of the sparks and if yes , how ?
