That tawhai looks amazing! This has made me wonder about semaphore flags cos it looks a bit like them lol, imagine putting a hidden message in a piece of wood llike that!

Glad you like it! I had never considered the semaphore flag interpretation before and good thinking with the hidden messages. I like it. Even a binary message with alternating solid colour dowels would work. I will keep this in mind for future projects... Thanks.

Don't know how I missed this release. This is pretty much exactly what I had imagined and hoped you were doing. Really cool concept and execution, and the possible variations are pretty endless. I was waiting for that oil reveal haha always one of the most satisfying moments on a small scale project.
Like I said before I haven't worked a lot w dowels, but I've never seen glue holes on the dowels done like that before, that's handy, especially if you're oversizing them a touch. I've used the store bought spiral ones (and the fluted ones, which I concluded are kinda bs), and have made some, but for some reason never thought to groove them like that - thanks!

Thanks. RUclips is being very slow with the notifications on this video for some reason. Still going at about 5 views per day from notifications at the moment so more than likely you haven't received it yet. All the metrics on the video look really good (audience retention, likes, etc) so not sure why RUclips is being so tentative with this one.
You are right about endless possible variations and I would love to try more at some stage. The idea for the glue holes came from a handy little book I have called The Joint Book. It certainly came in handy on this project!

@@kiwiworkshop Bummer :/ that's really weird about this video. The algorithm gods can be fickle indeed, seemingly without reason. Maybe your next release should be an alter, to appease them.
The book does sound handy indeed! In this day and age it can be easy to forget how useful a good old fashioned book instructional can be. That one sounds a gem.

@@willbephore3086 my next full length video will be along the same lines as my spacer video, so will be interesting to see how that one goes.
For sure, no substitute for a good old fashioned text book!

Thanks. Well I haven't been brave enough to use it yet, so perhaps it will end up on the wall!

@@kiwiworkshop I was wondering what you would do with this one. It would make an amazing gift, but dang, it would have to be someone epic haha to deserve this. Oh snap, a raffle at some point could be a brilliant way to get some folks motivated on your channel. This would definitely be the top tier prize on the list though!

@@willbephore3086 great idea with a raffle / giveaway. I will definitely keep that in mind for future videos and social media - thanks!
