- A huge Thank You to my many subscribers and other viewers! I’m playing The Ventures version of this song with a few licks added for the steel guitar! Standard guitar tuning. Surf on! My site: www.playsteelguitar.com
One of my favorite instrumentals from the bygone era - when guys really played instruments and really sang and wrote their own songs.
Thank you Doug, sounding great as usual!
Thanks Rhett! Glad you enjoyed it.
Good playing man keep up the work one day you will become famous.
@@Chiknggets Thanks! At my age though... I'm running out of time to become famous. 🤣🤣

Thanks, Doug, What a memory. Valentine’s Day 1965 (Sunday). Noon. WEWS TV Channel 5, Cleveland Ohio. The Gene Carroll (amateur hour) Show. 13 year old me playing lead guitar and 3 other guys in our band. We played “Walk, Don’t Run” to a live studio audience and millions (ok, well maybe thousands) of TV viewers. We lost to the tap dancers. 😖 But it was great fun!
Wow, that's an awesome memory, Keith. Thanks for listening to my version.😊
How easy it is to take beautiful music for granted. Watching and listening to you is a joy. Pure genius. Thank you so much.
Wow! Thank you Stephen. Much appreciated. 😊🙏🏄🏻♂️🏄🏻♂️
That just makes me so happy to hear you play this. Thanks so much.
Glad you enjoyed it, Karen!
Doug you never cease to amaze me what you can accomplish on a steel guitar, dobro or what have you. You are the man. You pick such great songs to bring back to life and your loyal audience laps it like a dog on a bone with gravy. Well done Steeler.. Another great one .
Wow! Thanks Daryl. Glad you enjoyed it.
Yes! You took my suggestion and did Walk Don’t Run, and naturally you aced it! Awesome job on an awesome song that has been part of my life since I was 10 years old in 1960. It was my very first 45 rpm record and I still have although the grooves are worn out from too many times on the turntable. Thank you Doug!
Thanks Joel! I'm the same age as you and this song was part of the soundtrack of my youth. Every kid who aspired to play guitar Had to learn Walk Don't Run. It was a rite of passage! 😎
Don' t know this piece of music, but I like it. Thank you. It will help me, to push my blood pressure, when I am tired. And household goes faster. 😁
Stacking those 45’s on the adapter on the record player oh my memories.
There was the a side which was why you bought the 45 then there was the b side usually crap. Gosh the memories
@@oldmaninthemirror I remember those days! 😊
Absolutely wonderful. I am always happy when you play, Thanks for another great song.
Thanks Steven, much appreciated
Absolutely a joy to hear a steel guitar for other than CW music which was awesome! Our bands used guitars for the tune adding their special licks to the song. I think Santo & Johnny did a wonderful job on Sleepwalk. Keep on pickin' and slidin'!
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
Great playing as always, Thank you Doug!
Thank you, Kelly! Glad you enjoyed it. 😊🙏🏄🏻♂️

I've been playing since 1960, at the age of 15, and the Ventures were my idols, thanks for the memory Doug :-) P.S. Bobby Seymour was a dear friend up until he passed....great steel player.
Thanks for watching, Mike. I met Bobby Seymour at the steel guitar shows back in the 1990s. Yes, he was an awesome player and he had a lot of funny stories!
Doug: YOURS IS BY FAR THE BEST VERSION...love your mastery!
Thanks! Glad you like it 😎👍
1960 the date The Ventures released this. It was a smash hit! It put them on the map the rest of their lives. I was 8 in 1960 and would here this on every car radio the windows were down at any drive- In restaurant in town. Still a favorite. Another excellent job!
Thanks Lynn! I'm glad you like it. This was one of the first songs I learned on guitar, back in the 60s. Like you said, the Ventures were all over the airwaves back then. 😁
I cannot get enough of your music!
Thanks for watching my videos! Much appreciated.
Ditto ! Magic fingers !
Music to my ears. Thank you!
Thanks for checking it out!
Doug, you played this difficult music at ease. So skillful hands. I'm just overwhelmed.
Thank you, I'm glad you like it.
I agree with the 'bygone era' sentiment. I may be out of touch, seems to me this was also a time when bands played tunes without accompanying words, always thought this was the mark of very good bands. Thank you for a most excellent rendition.
Yes, the era of great instrumentals that were heard on the radio every day. 😎
Wow!!! How can a slide sound better than a Stratocaster, UNBELIEVABLE!!!❤❤❤
😎😎👍👍 This 1967 Fender steel guitar is actually very close to a Strat or Tele... same style pickups (but 8 poles), same pots, tuners, finish, control knobs. And the pickups are wired to have a similar "out of phase" tone as a Strat.
@@dougsteelit's the art of a great player indeed
It'a a rare day when a cover eclipses the original
Today is one of those days.
Thank you Doug, I needed this today
Wow! Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it. 😊🙏🏄🏻♂️
This song was released in 1960. Sixty two years later still a favorite for many.
One of my favorites too! Thanks for listening.
The song that made me learn to play the guitar. Nicely done. You are always "right there," perfect pitch, on the beat, never behind
and clean as a whistle. Both, most important, you give each note the value it deserves.
Wow, thanks! Much appreciated. This song inspired me to learn the guitar too, many years ago.
Mornin,Doug you got that one spot on forgot all about that one from all those years ago brilliant sound brilliantly played thanks

There has never been anyone who has done a cover of walk dont run that did it right but you Doug I dont know what the musical term is for this but I call it cadence its the pace and steps between the notes if that isnt done right the song just dont sound right The person must really feel or internalize the music note by note it like a tap dance acfoss the stsge with many fancy licks of the foot. its whats between the noted snd not only that the Dynamics on a note. Im trying my best with my very elementary vocabulary to say something but even a person without and musicsl playing ability can discern when its right.. maybe I a nobody but I insist you nailed it Doug. I still recall when walk dont run was herd . OMG! this tune was like something from another world. what a powerful energy it produces . Like any great artist you know which songs to record and make shine. and with todays digital quality it can surpass the original that was herd over and AM Radio station and on youtube it seems its not compressed you hear the full dynamic range and again Im struggling to find the right words Is it called Sound stage, a Fat sound, Any ways you made me feel like I did when I was about 15 and herd it it was like the National anthem of rock and roll guitar., And onother thing that Doug has is perfect vibebrsto and no other song is this more evident th when you play Sleep Walk another song that many try to cover and I have yet to hear any one nail that one either. and its on sleep walk thats a deal breaker I herd Jeff Beck ( a fan of mine from way back '' Jeffs Boggie" ) he did a cover of iSleep Walk and he has a vibrato bar and didnt get it correct . You a recent discovery of mine and have give me many hours of enjoyment Thank you
Wow, thanks so much, Cleve!
Ah Doug, Thank You so much for my request! Brilliant as ever....

Superb, that had my toes tapping
Excellent! Thanks for watching. 😎
Thanks Doug. Your always do great renditions of oldies. I really like that old Fender steel you use. It's made to sound like a Fender Strat but with the ability to slide to fuller depth of sound. At least to my ear.
I thing you did the best ever rendition of "Endless Summer" better than any of the originals.
Gord
Thanks Gord, much appreciated. Yes, this old Fender steel is a close relative of the Strat. The two pickups are wired to produce that same out of phase sound, same blonde finish, same pots, and Telecaster knobs and tuners.
@@dougsteel Very cool Doug... thanks for the confirmation on the Strat sound.
I would love to hear your take on your different steel guitars and how they compare with other tradition electric guitars.
Also, what you are looking for in the particular songs you play and why you choose certain lap or pedle steel guitars to accomplish that.
The Strat has always driven the classic 50's electric sound. I come from that era, as I know you do.
Of course, the Fender amp and speakers contribute to the sound as well.
Hey, is Dave Hartley still around? I haven't seen any new pedle steel videos from him in years.

Beautiful,, another of my favourites,,, and I also loved ,,Peter Gun,,, and whiplash,,, is another favourite of mine, they sure had some really cool music in the 60s and 70s,, I used to play the keyboard, but sold it a few years back,, I'm only an amateur,,, but wish I hadent sold it now,,,🙄😖 I have a lap harp,, but not sure how to tune it,,as it never came with the right tuning peg or key,, 🥴its Brand new !and I can't even play it cause of not knowing how to tune it,, 😖and its a beautiful instrument,,, and dont need to know how read music ,,as its very easy to play,,,along with a kalimba,, that I have, that I can knock a tune out of,, bout 5 years ago I had an electric guitar 🎸 and was able to play a little of smoke on the water,, but don't have it no more, I gave it to my son as a gift but he later on made it a gift to his girlfriend. So if I ever need to play anything it would be the keyboard,,,and the lapharp..that's me all over!!! Stay safe and take care, saved your videos to my play list too,,will of course watch more of your brilliant videos. There outstanding.
I always enjoy seeing an upload from this channel. You never disappoint Doug!

I thoroughly enjoy-joyed that piece. I kept a grin on this tired old face the whole time! THANK YOU.
I played a lap steel, quite similar to yours and like a dingbat, I traded it and an amp and a box guitar and a little cash for a German Hoffner 12 string box guitar. When I went back to the music store, they had already sold my old lap steel and couldn't find any more like it. I played mine with a thumb pick and a first & second finger steel picks. I wasn't good, at all but I could do the steel guitar rag pretty good and back up folks that were jamming and picking and grinning, out in the yard. Thanks for the memories !!!
The music store sold me a "Nut cover riser", they called it. What it is, you loosen all the strings on your guitar and fit this metal device over the nut at the head of your neck past #1 fret, and push the strings into the filed slots in it and tune the strings into an open E-cord. Then wear the guitar flat and play it like a Dobro, with a steel slide. (some folks use a piece of 3/4" copper tubing cut and sanded smooth on the ends and worn over your middle finger). If you do it on an electric lead guitar equipped with a WaaWaa bar, you can actually make it sound like a peddle base...not near as good though, but it's FUN...!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I'm glad it brings back memories for you. 😎👍
