American Woman covered by Lenny Kravitz. The Guess Who was the original.
Great one !
american woman was orig. by Guess Who ; thanks
Thank you for that!!! Should have used Randy Bachman’s intro.
Burton cummings
Find Randy's video of how that song came about.
Changing a string, curling rink, almost getting drafted by the US Army...
"Sing ANYTHING!"
I quit this video when they used Kravitz' version... blasphemy!!
I was just about to write the same thing.
This is a pretty easy guessing game The only one I didn't get was the Foo Fighters. The 60s through 90s were no brainers. It helps being a Boomer. haha
That version of Whiskey in the Jar was first done by Thin Lizzy, and American Woman was originally by the Guess Who. Sneaking in covers of the original song is a rather dubious move.
Whiskey in the Jar is an old Irish folk song that's literally centuries old. It was recorded at least two times that I know of before Thin Lizzy did it.
@@Elthenar Which is why I specifically said "that version of". Thin Lizzy's version was very different than the folk song. Metallica covered Thin Lizzy's version, not the folk version like The Dubliners did.
@@andrewknaff9220 ok, fair.
The highway men did it way before thin lizzy. Even then they were doing a cover of the Beasly Bros.
@@alexbratos2023 Another person who doesn’t seem to understand the first two words of my comment, “That Version”. The Highway Men did not play the same version as Thin Lizzy or the Metallica cover of Thin Lizzy’s version. They covered the traditional folk version.
LaGrange ZZTopp
Two words, one p. ZZ Top.
@@rdspam One word one P.
I knew that.
@@user-sq5zg3ys5k La Grange. Two words.
I have to go PP ...or is that PeePee? One word, 2 P's. 😂😂😂
who else thought it was about to be pretty fly on #10
give it to me baby.. uh huh uh huh 💗💗
I recognized Def Leppard once I heard the guitar, but I guessed "Pyromania" for the song.
That trips me up cause once offsprings did that in a song its my go to answer when i hear it
Missed more than i thought i would. Got most of performers but less of the songs.
I was getting song and artist right until "American Woman." I knew it was the remake, and I could even picture Lenny Kravitz in my mind, but I could not remember his name. Then with "Whiskey in the Jar," I recognized Metallica's style, but couldn't think of the song title till they showed it.
I started having spotty success when they threw in 90s grunge and anything after 2000.
"American Woman" by The Guess Who I would have guessed. Same with "Whiskey in the Jar" had it been Thin Lizzy.
Add hard to handle by the grateful dead
@@Jch914Hard to Handle is originally Otis Redding.
@@marlenef777 appreciate the correction.
Asking us to guess covers is hardly fair. Both versions of both songs threw me - beginning of each is similar but small differences.
22/35, But I had to asmit with Def Leppard... at first I thought it was The Offspring
The same happened to me!
I waited to be sure. Once the drums are there, there's no doubt.
Ya, gotta wait for Rick to hit the skins.
I knew it was Def Leppard. I have the album!
One of my favorite Bands. Got it instantly.
Why Lenny Kravitz instead of the Guess Who on American Woman?
And Whiskey in the jar was originally Thin Lizzy
@@moflow99
Actually it was originally an Irish folk song.
How dare you use the sellouttaca version of whiskey in the jar, the only one to do it justice was Thin Lizzy
Relax, it's a good cover. Metallica's problems is they couldn't wright shit after The Black Album (and even that is miles away from their first albums).
Are you seriously trying to get people to comment on how supposedly "knowledgeable" you are? Keep fishing
If you want to be technical... American Woman...Guess Who
Oh yeah 100% agree, but I'm not a big fan of covers in general, not trying to "show off my music knowledge" as I was told, just stating my opinion
@@thomasgordon9071 subtle, real subtle.
ZZ Top LaGrange Good Quiz..
That's the correct answer; Glad you liked it!! 🎉
Bonus: “A-how-how-how-how”
😏
Love it! Love it! Love everything about it! Great post! 🤘
Meow-meow-meow-meow
Loved this quiz! Though had no idea the start of Pretty Fly For a White Guy was 'borrowed'. Also, LaGrange by ZZ Top
yes. That is the verbatim intro to Rock Of Ages by Def Leppard.
La Grange. Two words.
Excellent Quiz. Missed like 5. ZZ Top La Grange as the bonus.
not excellent, way too easy.
I knew all the good songs and a few of the ones that suck
Lol I was thinking the same thing.
same boat here! I hate the seattle sound! they all suck! damn near killer rock n roll!
@@davidmitchell6873 you both suck.
Thank you...always fun to test my knowledge
LA Grange by ZZ Top is #36

"All units this is dispatch, We’ve got a red station wagon blasting Panama and being awesome and partying and being rad."
Not in my town, Dispatch. This is Officer Stickbutt, in pursuit.

“Stickbutt break off pursuit! Panama kicks too much ass and shreds way too hard.. you’ll never catch him.”
Negative dispatch just need to wait for that 'running a little bit hot tonight' part.

Dear God, he's gonna do it. He's gonna time his jump for the greatest harmonized sound drop in '80s rock history!

Failed miserably but it was fun!
yea, me too
my mindset to everything
American Woman was the Guess Who and Whiskey in the Jar was Thin Lizzy. You used the remakes on both.
Whiskey In The Jar is an Irish folk song of which both Thin Lizzy and Metallica have done covers.
And they sound different. So different artist.
@@schwecklesto be fair, Thin Lizzy is a cover too. Like 10 recordings prior. Thin Lizzy is the best though
These were my ½ points as i knew the song but not the artiste.
Hard to handle is a cover as well. It’s an Otis Redding song from the 60s.
Your idea of Rock songs are way different than mine. Maybe next time do it by generations.
Yeah. Me too. The old stuff I got really well. A lot of ? On my list.
rock doesn't just mean older rock
Got about half, La Grange my favourite ZZ Top song. RIP Dusty.
The couple I missed confirmed what I already knew...My brain finally achieved new band overload. Even after seeing the answer I didn't remember ever even hearing the song. I immediately (like after the first note) knew that was Lenny Kravitz's cover of American Woman, but shamefully I learned here that Whiskey In The Jar was not a Metallica original, and I never really considered myself a Metallica fan until years after they came out. Think I was all of 15 when LaGrange was released just so you can maybe see what I mean by " new band overload", lol
24/35 - so many I knew but couldn't quite place though, a few kicking mystelf moments! And the last one I knew was La Grange - ZZ Top
I "missed" 5.... the only one I didn't actually know was The Killers. I knew the others just couldn't come up with it in time.... The covers didn't throw me, they sound different from the originals.
100% thankfully only had to guess the song cause I was going original artist as first thought.
-MA
Good quiz! Missed some of the newer ones, but kicked-ass on the rest.
"La Grange" by ZZ Top (ah haow haow haow haow!)
25/35. Not bad I guess. Thought I'd do better, but tougher than expected, and not much time to decide. Oh well, it was fun, enjoyed it, look forward to more...
La Grange. ZZ Top. Is the last one. I wish you'd have used The Guess Who for American Woman as it was their original.
all those 80s hair bands sound the same to me. But La Grange? That one I know stone cold.
25 but I was a teen in the 70s so a lot of those were easy.
Never thought of Roxette as a rock band... Rocksette? 😆
I missed 8 , knew the songs , just couldn't place them right away. Last one was "La Grange"-ZZ Top 🤟😊
La Grange…and dang it all, Carrie by Europe was the only one that stumped me!!
Same here, cheers
If you Know music a full house is easy a couple of covers to catch off gaurd still manged a full house but I do not class the spin doctors as rock
33/35. Just missed the two songs I've never really liked - Roxette "Listen To Your Heart" and Europe "Carrie". And of course the bonus song was ZZ Top's "LaGrange".
La Grange. Two words.
22/35 knew many more but ran out of guessing time. Bonus is ZZ top Lagrange
La Grange.
Am I the only one that thought Runaway by Bon Jovi was Hold The Line by Toto?
No 😂. That got me too.
Yup
Me too!
Me Too!!!!
I was gonna say Maybe, then I didn't.
La Grange- ZZ Top
Nailed it ...0/35 😂😂😂 Just joking. 11/35
Got 20 of them correct
Extra song was La Grange by ZZ TOP. 30/35 as there were 5 songs I had never heard from the very beginning. Not bad for a 63 year-old though.
La Grange by ZZTOP
I recognized all but 3 songs! Some i immediately knew the artist. A couple i immediately knew bothe the artist and song title, a few i knew the song title.
Last song was from ZZ TOP.
20/35
AC DC should be number 1
Missed Iron Maiden.
29/35. Melomaniac freak.
Roxette and Europe got me. I should have known the Roxette one.
Easy peasy
La Grange-ZZ Top
Only got 3 wrong.
That's a great score; congratulations! 🥳
Last song was La Grange by ZZ Top. I got 25/35 right, there were 2 where I named the band correctly, but not the song, and 8 I missed completely.
30/35, 36 is La Grange by ZZ Top
"Whiskey in The Jar" by Metallica was also a cover.
I missed Carrie by Europe cuz I always turned that off before ever learning who it was..
17/35 La Grange - ZZ Top
27/35 plus the bonus one ZZ Top La Grange
La Grange ZZ Top
33/36(last is "La Grange" by ZZ Top)
You got me on Foo Fighters(I knew who it was, but got the title wrong), Audioslave & Deep Purple
Chuck Rock !
16½. Some I should've guessed, others I knew the song (original) but not the artiste and others I never had a clue.
Male, 63, UK
I got most right. A few I could only come up with the artist or the song title. Europe-Carrie was the only one that the artist and song stumped me
I Guessed Whole Lotta Love, American Woman, Come As You Are, Dream On, Paint It Black, We Are The Champions, Best Of You, Mr. Brightside, Thunderstruck, I Was Made For Loving You, Centrefold, 2 Princes’s, Panama, La Grange,
I Also Like Born To Wild, All Right Now, Rock Of Ages, Listen To You’re Heart, You Could Be Mine, Still Loving You, We’re Not Gonna Take It,
LaGrange They got a lot of nice girls. (ZZ Top)
Needed more time for Highway Star but 100% aside from that
23
I've never heard of "Twister Sister"
Twisted, my friend. Twisted! And I never knew Roxette was a rock band.
24 out of 36... not bad for a recalcitrant rocker!
#36 is La Grange by ZZ Top.
Fun fact, I live less than an hour from there. We playedLa Grange when I was in High School
Heard every song Billons of times. Knew 32 Of the band names. and only 26 of the song names!!
31.5/35. 3.5 incorrect, missing Roxette, S Perry, and "Carrie" by Europe. Synths/pianos throw me off....
Claiming .5 points for knowing "Whiskey" was Metallica, but couldn't think of the song name. Also, WHO tf listens to any of Steve Perry's solo work?! Please....🤣 Fun quiz!
I missed four songs in the whole list and that final song is a very famous song by ZZ Top with the name La Grange
Happy to say I only missed the Nirvana and Pearl Jam songs.
34 of 35.....but I am 57 so...🤷🏻
Expert level! 🤘
@@TriviaQuizMaster Nah...just an old man that's a music fanatic.😉👍🏼
28/35. Got all the songs that were from about 1982 and earlier. Missed about 2/3 of those after that, but did get Talk Dirty to Me right...
Fiumi di parole by Jalisse has the same intro of Listen to your heart by Roxette
Should have included Smoke on the Water
Sure
La Grange - ZZTop. I answered about half. A lot of them I don't consider Rock.
La grange good quiz 50%
Uh haul haul haul haul. LaGrange from those little boys from Texas
La Grange. Two words.
18 100% right, 3 where I got the song but not the artist - because I knew the original version e.g. Whiskey in the Jar - so that's 19.5... Plus La Grange by ZZ Top Very hard.
The last song was La Grange, by ZZ Top!
j'ai eu du fun
Several remakes on the list. Tres Hombres Amigo. That little Ol band from Texas. Sounds best with Billy’s Pearly Gates!
I got 28 right. Didn’t do so well with grunge music.
Got most. But thinking Poison was the sex pistols was a big fail 😊
But there was the riff from "God save the Queen". 😊
Got 100% on the songs I had heard before, unfortunately that was less than 50% of these.
ZZ Top La Grange. That was fun.
The last one is LaGrange by ZZ Top.
Hard to handle is a rock version cover. The original is by Otis Redding
ZZTop LA Grange. I got 33/36 great quiz!
At #33 I was no VH yet? Panama was next at 34.
Too American for me, at least 10 songs I've never ever heard.
Idem
I missed two of them the killers(not a fan) and pearl jam (not a fan) not too bad 🇨🇦👍🏻🇨🇦

La Grange-ZZTop
27/35 great quiz!
Missed only 2. Bonus is La Grange by ZZTop
La Grange, ZZ Top! I got 30/35, not counting the last.
"La Grange" by ZZ Top
Thunderstroke by ADHD
La Grange by ZZ Top
The last one was La Grange, by ZZ Top. I missed 5, one of which was a case of the wrong word, but that one and one other, I knew the band, although I didn't know the song, and there was a third where I thought, "I don't know, but it sounds like..." and had the right band. So, two complete misses.
#36 was La Grange by ZZ Top. Missed three song and artist pairings and one song title.
23/35
honestly i kinda did miserable here, got 12/35 ☠
i got most of the artists but didn't know which song
