What is the backing on your demonstration frame? Great idea to be able to see what you do on the under side.

I just picked up one of my books for inspiration and came across your Lizard, I was so surprised because I had only just watched this video last month, so I knew I'd seen it somewhere and now I've just seen the book is written by you (Fancy Fibers), think I was a tad slow on picking that up lol. I love the book Gail and can recomend it to anyone reading this.

Gail, you mentioned that one can purchase a rug hooking hoop on your website, but I don't see anywhere that is mentioned there. Please advise. Thank you.

Show the hook and how it hooks to yarn to pull it up

Twisting, for me, can happen when I’ve let go of the wool, and then pick it up again, twisting it inadvertently. I usually know the strand has twisted when I see it turning, slightly, in the hole. Great video btw.

That is a great observation. Thank you, Wendy. I like to make sure that the the noodle is captured between my thumb and my index finger so that the side of my index finger is always feeling the bottom side of the rug. that way I can feel if there is a twist. This also helps make sure I have good tension on the bottom side, and have pulled the loop through with no slack.

Merci 👍🍀

Do you hook the detail first and then fill in the background? Also, do you start in the center and work out or row by row top to bottom? I'm loving this! I took lessons 20 years ago and would like to do it again.

It does depend a bit on the design of the piece, but it is very typical to start from the middle and work towards the edges. Sometimes though, the design has overlapping design elements. In that case, you might want to start with the element that would be closest to you as the viewer, and then hook the elements that are behind. If the design is geometric, this can also influence the hooking approach. We do recommend that you find your local hooking group and join us! We love to help new hookers!.

Great video. I’m a beginner and this was very helpful. Just a heads up, the volume wasn’t very loud and it was a little muffled and difficult to hear.

Hi Jane - Thank you for the reply! We are still beginners at doing videos, and this is something we have also noticed. Hopefully we will continue to improve!
