The number one mistake may players make is exploring too much of their toolkit. The only move you need to know is totsugeki. The only time you would ever use something other than totsugeki is when you mess up the input
If I can just explain something real quick, the reason most newer players seem scared to go for pressure (myself included, full disclosure) is the same reason they don't block on wakeup: mashing seems unbeatable at lower levels. The timing on meaties, safejumps, etc. is actually really hard? Like, you have an easy time with it once you've put in practice, but it takes a solid chunk of practice to get it down at first. And it's *insanely* frustrating to be moving towards your knocked down opponent, pressing your pressure starter, and then suddenly a 5PPP or 2K 2D is hitting you, and you're now in disadvantage. It's not just the timing itself that makes it hard, it's the sheer discouragement of missing it.
When I call my self a beginner, I mean today I played GGST for the first time, and it's my first 5 buttom fighter ever. Your list is already giving me a lot of food for thought. Also, May main already. She's a lot of fun. Even if I have only the vaugest of ideas what I'm doing right now.

For super beginners with May, I recommend: Learning to charge dolphin while you're in attack animations. Imo the easiest one to start with is 2S, but it's also important to be able to do it out of another dolphin. Learning some bread and butter one-twos, like 2k->2D, 5p->5p->3k, and especially 2H->vertical H dolphin. Remember to switch between S and H dolphins. H dolphin is plus on block, so you can do stuff you couldn't with S dolphin. On low floors, the opponents can rarely tell the difference, and will often play RPS after blocking the H dolphin, and you can get schnasty counterhits Try to run up and grab after you get a dolphin counterhit. Try to remember to use Faultless Defense sometimes (especially when you're in the corner). Those things will get you pretty far. It's also VERY worth noting that May's 5k shenanigans no longer exist in this patch, so ignore basically everything involving that. Totsugeki!
@dylansalus9159 So you van start holding back during another move and that still counts? Very nice to know! ^^ Also, good to know on 5k, I was wondering why it wasn't living up to the hype.
Whoa. Oh my god. It literally instantly made the dolphin combos easy. Wow. I did not know you can hold the charge button during moves. Now I feel way less inconsistent and clunky.
i started playing GGS a few days ago and main may and bridget as of right now so this is really helpful. i might even be able to apply a lot of this to bridget too
bro the iad j.h was so real for me but i discoverd that i could condition my opponent to anti air all my iad's and when i feel like i should do it i just anti anti air them with the orca and capitalise on my bad habit
@@FrostyBones-nb7mz just know that your air dash is (most of the time) not a neutral tool but a mixup one, technically using whale instead of j.h is a mixup
2:35 THIS. I my main fighting game before GGST was DBFZ. I was actually pretty good and blocking on wakeup is something you almost never see in that game because every decent character has a better option, so whenever I wakeup in GGST I would try to use a button and get instantly countered. GGST has long since became my main fighting game and I still do this from time to time
I bet from the bottom of my soul that 90% of the time when a May player gets meaty 3K, they were going for command grab and fucked up the input. I might be projecting cause I swear that happens to me way too often. But I'm confident in my bet still
@@simonwilliams737 May has only been viable for a patch at most and people have been hating her for a while now. I do not think most people complaining about her on social media have the hands or the emotional intelligence to understand the intricacies and very high IQ required to be a May main.

Remember folks, nobody expects the ninth dolphin

what iad
It means instant air dash (I’m new and don’t know how and when I should I use it sorry)

My biggest mistake is that I still have learned ro use the Horizontal dolphin.
I am truly ashamed of myself

Honestly not a bad theory, I mess up and get 3k/6k sometimes too while trying OHK
nah I only ever mess it up and get 2K, my meaty 3Ks are pure braincell loss
6. Thinking
Also, is there is any reason to use jh against a grounded opponent if you have js
You can air back dash and hit a weird crossup jH off of 6P ch, that's about it other than some FRC stuff and combos.
jS can be unsafe to throws in you aren't careful. jH can be too, but it's a higher attack level so there is more leeway.
man yomers you didn't even have to make a vid on this, it's obviously iAD jH
(also what can I say, banger vid after banger vid)
thank you ramen :3
What i need to fix is mirror matches and stopping myself from getting into a predictable pattern i feel just joined the disc (Mako) lol
When i say mirror im mostly meaning those very experienced mays folding me like origami (i be left speechless xD)
I may or may not have done most of these things
Could you do a matchup guide series 🥺
Which match-up would you want in particular?
I can't deal with Bridget and I-No in particular
Fuck having a real gameplan, where my big body peeps at?
Love ur vids and i dont even play guilty gear
In my experience the biggest mistake i was doing as a may player was not being subscribed to YomiFGC on youtube. ☝️🧐
if you don't subscribe I will find you
so true
How do y’all cope when the whole ggst community hates you

3k is really good at round start in xx
Any May Discord??? I’m New to guilty gear and i only wanna main May 🙏🏽

It's obviously IAD jH don't even need to watch the video 😤
exactly why even watch LMAO
Its obviously IAD jH...
actually no it's not in the video
Why is nijika in the thumbnail?
I just thought it would be funny tbh
She's a May main.
