- This is the direction of the future. Useful AI that can do the research of a thoudand men instantly. It's definitely worth noting that Watson is capable of learning (a point I didn't touch on in this video), so what you see here is the "baby phase" so to speak. I tried to leave out the technical jargon in this video but for those who want to know more, a wiki dump on Watson is below:
According to John Rennie, Watson can process 500 gigabytes, the equivalent of a million books, per second.
Software
Watson uses IBM's DeepQA software and the Apache UIMA (Unstructured Information Management Architecture) framework.
Hardware
The system is workload optimized, integrating massively parallel POWER7 processors and being built on IBM's DeepQA technology, which it uses to generate hypotheses, gather massive evidence, and analyze data. Watson is composed of a cluster of ninety IBM Power 750 servers, each of which uses a 3.5 GHz POWER7 eight core processor, with four threads per core. In total, the system has 2,880 POWER7 processor cores and has 16 terabytes of RAM.

It's important that the world knows about the first steps into the new wave of upcoming technology. It's exciting and scary simultaneously but interesting none the less.
[Must Watch!] The Computer That's Smarter Than YOU & I
Feel free to share if you think people should know about this technology!
Enjoy guys!
#IBM
***** Not at all, as far as I know, it's impossible for Watson to have ideas of its own so that'd be out of the question. The main concern at this point is high level jobs of expertise. Watson could be a very useful aid for decision making of any kind.
ColdfusTion as far as in the medical field I think it would be stupid to completely replace the knowledge of pros with years of experience... If we get to q point where were reliant upon AI then if a glitch or problem occurs then it would have massive repercussions. Still absolutely crazy that this has been done all in the past 50 years! Imagine the next 50 years, Google might actually control your house lol
You always seem to sneak some learning into my entertainment. 👌
Looks like I was right in the last video ;)
I think Watson is great for research purposes, proven by it's use and success in medicine and economy.
However It is not intelligent.
It only collects data provided by humans and filters given information. It is a lot better at that than humans, which is why it dominated Jeopardy.
But it doesn't process the information.
It can't find a solution or form an opinion like we humans can.
Therefore it will always rely on us to make progress and feed it new information.
This becomes blatantly obvious with the violent games aspect shown.
It states contradictory pros and cons.
So while it is far superior in research than most of us, it is not the answear to all our questions.
Daaang!!! This video was posted 2 YEARS Agooo!! I'm just now seeing this! 👀👀 WOW.. Speechless!
You should watch the movie called Ex Machina
worst possible movie
best possible movie
Your comment was posted 2 years ago and I'm just now seeing this... can't imagine how much more advanced it is now.
Kinda scary. Thinking Watson might be able not just to think reasonable, but maybe to act and control. We'd better call him "Ultron", if you understand what I'm talking about
Arved Wonnek I don't think you understand what you're talking about. This is an engine to find answers to the questions asked of it, and the information that it relies on comes entirely from human writing. It cannot figure out what questions are the 'right' ones to solving a problem, it does not have any capacity to form original thought. There are simply efficient, high-volume analyses run on existing, human-provided data to answer human-provided questions in a way that makes sense to humans.
Does that make it clever and knoledgeable? Yes. But there is absolutely no creativity, ingenuity or originality to anything that it attempts. This is not a true AI, but it is an excellent tool.
It cannot yet. But humans have an urge to update everything and make AI more and more like ourselves. So, someday Watson may be able to think in right and wrong, and he might get the idea that humanity with their pollution and stuff like that, well, that earth would do better without us. And since Watson is the internet's supreme intelligence, he could find a way to destroy us. And that's what frightens me
Arved Wonnek
That's not 'updating', man. That's a complete and total shift in absolutely everything watson does. Like, there is literally 0 capacity whatsoever for anything like that with the programming that watson currently has. Plus? We still don't have any way at all for a machine to come up with an 'original' idea; there's no way for Watson to ask questions of its own or come up with ideas of its own, and watson's capacities are limited entirely to harvesting information from predetermined sources.
Not yet
Arved Wonnek
Ok, you know what? You keep being stupid and I'm obviously wasting my time. I mean, forget the real horrors that already exist, like the fact that we are genuinely engineering plagues and bioweapons capable of slaughtering billions. Go ahead and stick your head in more bad hollywood scifi.
with news and media as it is
lets hope that it can figure out lies from truths
Gabriel Gardner lmao would be interesting what it figures out given of course that it doesn't develop bias in the first place.
My thought exactly! Someone could post 1000 slightly different books, articles or lab results to force an AI to come to a different conclusion. One could even use an AI to flood the internet with fake studies/lab results so that one treatment is favoured over another.
Gabriel Gardner Blame it on black peoples
Gabriel Gardner everything the media tells you is a lie
what is truth you can not tuch it or feel it, i mean what is truth
you are very talented at making tech videos - thanks!!!
Imaging Watson gathering data at the time of Galileo, and pick an answer based on its popularity.
Please, Watson, don't learn from us, we're not the best source :D
These are some of the best produced and well thought out videos I've seen on RUclips!
This is your best work so far, the introduction is very well written. It was really good
One of the best videos I've ever seen. Your really gifted I'm film making. Your great!!!
IBM Watson has announced its candidacy for president 2016.
Watson for President for a smarter America!
a machine is smarter than every president since jfk. so yes, please vote for him. but im not sure what the law says about machines wanting to become president. are they for example really born in the us, when they are built there?(well mostly they are built in china or so xD) is there even the possibility to make a machine president or is it against some other law?
+R2green3 Watson has my vote
Watson is working for Trump... lol Or maybe now, it's the other way around? Food For Thought!
@@MrGollum1996 :) Certainly the software is created in U.S.A. by his Americans 'parents' and that is making the A.I. legit even in constitutional terms.
You are within my top 5 youtubers :) love everything you put out bro...would LOVE some more 2 hour mixes..they get me through everything dude..keep up the good work !
This is one of the most fascinating videos I've seen so far from your channel. That's a big deal since every one of your videos makes me feel incredibly proud of what we have technologically.
If every electhronic text book has Watson in them, students would have a great, never wrong, and not boring teacher to taught them
amazing, thanks for the sharing dude
Very well put together and extremely professional, great job!
Well done mate. I think your channel is probably one of best ones on youtube. Watched at least half of all videos, will watch the rest in due time. Keep on at it! Cheers from Malaysia.
YOURE AMAZING, SICK VIDEO GOOD JOB CANT BELIEVE YOUR SUBSCRIBE COUNT ISNT IN THE MILLIONS you should be as big as vsause
Well I really wouldn't go as far as calling Watson an AI, for it's basically an advanced search engine and a filter. It provides answers based on documents written by people that, as we all know, are full of flaws/lies/misconceptions. However this is a quite a step towards AI-ish technology, but first we have to get a full grasp on how and why our brains work to have any success at creating what we call an AI.
It learns, it's cognitive, computing.
Your concept of what is possible now is based on the traditional approach to AI. That no longer applies. Your knowledge of AI needs to be updated.
Just came across one of your videos. Very impressive production quality and now I'm binge watching your channel. Thanks for being awesome!! Subscribed.
It is 5 in the morning where i live and this video blew my mind! Keep doing what you are doing! Because what I see is a person who pays close attention to detail with such a passion and can explain some of the most complicating technology to the world like no other person or channel! Good luck, and cheers!
here's hoping that Watson doesn't become Skynet
+unstoppableExodia Skynet is computer program and not the computer itself! Skynet is like Android O.S. and it runs almost allover in the world now :P
Amol Narke so what you're saying is that Genisys = Skynet?
Lol yes ! What I am trying to say that Future is not set. :P
haha there is no future but what we make for ourselves !!
+unstoppableExodia its sky net add hal 9000
Amazing thing is that Watson can, not only recognize arguments, but categorize them as pro/con. Question is, can Watson evaluate arguments and recognize bull?
Love your videos!!!! I've been watching all of them and they have sparked a great interest in me about technology. Cheers from California, USA.
Exceptionally well produced and presented, much thanks.
Now Watson just needs a little bug and we're all dead.
true
But can watson write its own study material ? can it do research by itself ?
Not now, but in future its very possible. In future, with Human being treated as God of AI robots, we will co-exist.
That's what it did.
In 2021 yes and more
This was really good! Thank you for sharing....your view of WATSON! I believe this is the way of the future! Absolutely an Eye Opener and Brilliant! Will be sharing this one!
another entertaining, informative and easily digestable video, well done m8
Yes, watson can look up and "value" information extremely fast. Faster than humans can. BUT in this example its using sources like wikipedia, wich is written by humans!
The computer can use and process manmade creations and possible use it in a better and more efficient way than we could. However we didnt see the "watson" actually creating data from scratch, like a person could. The computer doesent do the "raw research" it just processes it in an awesome way! So this is just a tool to make us humans even more powerful, not to replace us, because without anything to give the "watson" any data to process, it will be useless!
***** just having fun with the idea...but it seems it would be only a matter of a couple generational evolutions before the ability is there for a computer to come to its own conclusion and write better answers to the questions even if data wasn't provided specifically...they still are limited in mobility...haha...but that may some day soon change as well. If we link everything together there is a possibility that it could pull the data it needs from some other machine. Some crazy stuff when you start thinking about it. Internet + Watson's learning power + time to develop + whatever-google-is-doing-with-all-those-robotics-companies = the terminator
Fx
+Sisrace But many people are not in the business of preforming raw research. Many people essentially just process data for their jobs and so, to an extent, I think Artificial Intelligence is undoubtedly going to replace a lot more than we might be comfortable with.
Rafał Kotrys fx 6300 is my procceser
Your concept of what is possible now is based on the traditional approach to AI. That no longer applies. Your knowledge of AI needs to be updated.
Google Now (for searching) + Wolfram Alpha (for stats and calculations) + Watson (for analyzing and reasoning data) = The best personal assistance for smartphone and best software for anything, anywhere! If we can get this integrated into Android in a few years, boy that would be awesome!
I love all the videos, they are easy to understand will still having enough information to be interesting 👍 keep up the good work throughout 2015. Good luck!
Very interesting! Your videos are always polished and good, I salute you! :)
Well they finally did it! We're now on the path to redundancy, and they called it Watson.
3 years after video. Where’s watsitsface?
(I never heard of it till now)
This video was epic as always! It makes you really think what's going to happen in the future.
Really enjoyed the video Dagogo it was really well put together keep up the good work man!
So Watson does a huge googling in the internet, does a CRTL+F to search for important stuff and that's it?
+Eduardo Forneck Haha nice explanation
Watson may be the next generation of computing, But can he run crisis 3 in 4k Ultra at 60fps?
It might run crysis, but won't launch AC:U!
Dr Barnabus I think NASA has your computer c:
***** cant run video games at all
Hahahahahaha ur so harami :D
Sir, I respect you. You had so amazing analytic skill that turn such a complicated topic to a very interestingly documentary. Much of your thought inspired me.
I kept thinking about the movie Transcendence while watching this. Great job as usual, I really like your videos, they're very informative.
Yea. Transcendence
I see what you did Harold Finch...
+Forest Noise love the show
Is it time to welcome our new robotic overlords?
+Lilith Lovett i will great them with batteries
Just pure awesomeness!! Lovely video and the times are changing.. :)
You are an incredible guy. Another top class video! As always I will be sharing this, keep up the good work
Except that logic and facts are not, and never will be intuition and emotion. The later two is what spawns curiosity, drive, function. It's why we have questions to begin with, it's what drives us to learn, drives us to expand.
A computer, no matter how logical, can never possess this, hence never expand outside our own past desires.
..and your claims are based on what exactly?
unbelievablesuccess Your uninformed and sarcastic comment has changed my opinion to match your own.
All hail our new computer overlords.
Sorry, I didn't intend to be condescending. You're right, it was a bit sarcastic, but certainly not uninformed (by definition, asking a question).
I guess you're believing in god/soul? Then I could see where you're coming from. To me we're nothing more than the matter we're made of, and as such could possibly be replicated by software/engineering.
Have a good day!
I really dont see why a computer will not have the drive to learn and expand its knowledge. Just program it to have that drive. Done.
You are implying that our brain isn't a computational device when it actually is. Why wouldn't we be able to determine the software necessary to compute like we do? We are all part of the same world and a computer is made up of the same matter as you. Thinking it couldn't do what we are capable of doing is the flawed thinking here.
I do not think Watson will be able to think purely logical, as the knowledge it assesses and bases its arguments on, is human-made, therefore it is not only irrational and emotional, but also somtimes purely false, of course without us knowing that.
Thus this "logics" of Watson is nothing more than a summary of human thoughts, therefore will not shed new lights on topics or information, but rather regorgitate the common intellectual opinion.
I loved watching this and it was very interesting. I always look forward to your videos!
didn´t those pros and cons contradict themselves? i think the first con-argument was simply stating that one of the pro-arguments was a lie.
so watson is basically not able to reason, but only to serve as a better google+siri.
:) Watson just pointed out about that statement subjectivity and as always the truth is somewhere at the middle. It's not about playing video games but also about who's playing them. The inner essence of each of us decides not what we are seeing and doing.
LoL pc served every noob who wants to ban games...
Man.... I love all your videos, i enjoy them alot!! They so informative. The part I enjoy the most is the history and am amazed about the future I've never heard. Keep up the good work!!
Great video. Always a pleasure watching.
2:04 yeahhh bitcoin aint doin so welll
whaaaaat
Yeah, it got regulations and shit. At this moment, it's hard to buy Crypto without a passport due to fraud.
+jason bowen It's illegal in my country for example.
jason bowen hahaha 1 year later, its doing mazing now buddy this video was awesome
Thanks a lot, awesome video
Enjoyed the whole video
As always waiting for the next
Spectacular video! First time I've heard of IBM Watson.
Your videos are incredible! Thank you very much!
Nicely done!! I loved it. Quite informative.
I Love this channel..can't get enough of the knowledge shared!!
I will be sharing this with all my friends great video!
Wow!! Great show as usual :) Really got me thinking.
wonderful production good job my friend
your voice is so amazing, which just makes your video so interesting to watch!!
These edits are really top notch.
Great videos! Thanks for doing them!
Upvoted the vid and subscribed to the channel. Thanks for posting. The future has been here for awhile now. Some are just now noticing.
this is seriously awesome! I am a bit dissapointed that this channel only has so little views ...
About a week ago i found your channel through a search on youtube, about google and it's success. That led me to your awesome channel with truck loads of information, news and an awesome taste in music. Really glad i found your channel and hoping the content continues.
Oh and also can you do a video about graphene? What it is, and what power it has?
you are a great talker. its nice to listen to you!!
Simply awesome bro
Thanks fo dagogo and coldfustion
I always learn something from your videos.
Thanks fo making such a Gud video.
And u r awesome bro no other can make videos better than u.
I'm in 2022 looking back at a 6 years old video, right now we have GPT3 a completely different technology to Watson's, an AI that you can even talk to.
What a time to be alive!
Great film, great style and great content as always! It is important to note that Watson has to be limited to searching text books on medical matters, etc. So in the future reliance on such wonderful analytical tools, the source material could be careful edited by academia and skeptical debunkers to exclude info that would result in an undesirable result returned by Watson. For example, Cancer research is currently focussed on genes as the cause of cancer, yet some effective treatments to cure cancerous cells and tumor growths sit outside of this research even though they are effective. Who will program Watson? we need a new generation of computer to impartially set the boundaries as more open, and call it Holmes :-)
Great video, all of them! Thank you!
Impressive stuff. Watson's capabilities is amazing.
as always your video is informative and amazing. thank you for sharing your knowledge
how in the world do you find all these extremely old retro videos/clips and how do you slice them together ssssooooooo nicely!!????! Love your content, like a new discovery channel
You are one very switched on dude. Love your work.
Love your style, great vid.
Greate video as always . Thank You!
Nice work man! :D
Greetings from Spain
thanks for that awesome vid.
brilliantly done
I hope you videos get showed it schools so these kids at school today can see what happened and how this was all made. P.s I Love you editing, its so simple and clean
Bel video! Sono senza parole come sempre. Thanks!
Very cool stuff I'm barely gonna learn to code next year in high school and I'm excited to create something cool like this
Another absolutely mind blowing video.
Awesome Video Mate !!
It's so amazing. It'll help us very much in the future, such as an assistant
I can just see myself in 20 years waking up and just having a conversation with my computer/robot and asking it something like, "What should I wear today" and then it would factor in current weather conditions, my commute, my personal preferences, and what i have available in my wardrobe and then have it say, "you should wear jeans and a sweater today". That would be awesome.
congrats for the1,024k subscribers keep gooing thats great
if i had 1 wish it would be that this channel gets so much more exposure
Thanks for your informative videos.
Awesome channel, thank you!
Awesome video. Thanks a lot dude.
I'm glad I am subscribed to this channel.
amazing video. great channel!
Incredible video as always. Watson to take over the world! Can't wait for project Sherlock!
This is a MUST SEE!
Compiling information is impressive. Obviously running on a pragmatic algorithm to collect, store, organize knowledge, and to combine and spew it back out in a "remix." when requested by referencing keywords in a request.
~
Great production Simply superb......
good to see you in video :)
This is really amazing! Its more on the side of analytical thinking, but just to see it do it all on its own is amazing! It sounds like a part of what could be in the idea of what the Robot was in the movie, "Ex-Machina". This software is being able to come up with reasons on its own, but at the same time had to be made and programmed by humans. No where near the AI from the movie but its a nice step forward and I cant wait to see how it expands and affects our lives in the future. :D
I have listened to several of your videos in the past couple days, and I really like them. In addition to the excellent content, I also like how you speak. Your accent is intelligent-sounding and pleasant to listen to. Your pronunciation has one feature I've never heard in anyone else before, though, and I wonder if this is something that comes from the community from which you derive your dialect, or if it is specific to you.
The feature I'm talking about is this: To my ear, you pronounce the -er at the end of words as I would expect the -ar combination to sound. So, it sounds to me like you pronounce "whether", "easier", "later", and "power" something like "whethar", "easiar", "latar", and "powar". Actually, since you speak a non-rhotic dialect, these words come out more like "whethah", "easiah", "latah", and "powah". In other non-rhotic dialects I'm familiar with, these words are pronounced more like"whethuh", "easiuh", "latuh", and "powuh", where the "uh" sounds like a schwa.
So, I'm left wondering if this is something specific to you -- maybe you over-articulate these sounds because you're narrating a video -- or whether it's specific to the dialect of some community I'm unfamiliar with.
