I read black and white on my Colorsoft with no front light on most of the time. You get used to it. I did read on my Paperwhite the same way though so I was already used to no backlight. For color I do have the light on some.
You didn't mention the "screen door" effect on the Colorsoft (my mom said it looks like a denim jean imprint which was very accurate). I bought both at Christmas to compare them, and ultimately decided to send the Colorsoft back because the "screen door/denim" appearance really bothered me. Also, the unit I got had the yellowing at the bottom, so that's still an issue as well. I'm hopeful that over the coming years this technology will be improved upon, because I'd love to have a color e-reader at some point. Right now though, in my opinion, the Kindle Paperwhite Signature is the much better bang for your buck. Enjoyed the video!
Ended up returning my Colorsoft and went with an iPad mini. Got a matte screen protector to make it easier on the eyes and I love it. Not locked into the Amazon eco system, can do all the things that the Colorsoft can do (I can highlight in color and there’s still dark mode), plus I can listen to my audiobook and read along at the same time.
I'm having a good time reading novels on the Colorsoft. The slightly darker background doesn't feel like a trade off and colour-coding my highlights would make it hard to go back to B&W. Trading in my 2016 Kindle got me the Colorsoft for £20 less than the Signature Paperwhite, so I'm very happy.
I’ve always used the glow light all the time when I’ve had a device with that option. I guess now with the latest screens being whiter, I could turn it down, but I don’t think I’d turn it off entirely. Or at least not indoors.
I ordered mine back in October, I returned it last month and the replacement still has a yellow tint, but it seems to be smaller. It doesn’t bother me when I’m reading, it’s more subtle.
@@bswindle71 Yeah, mine was definitely subtle as well. I just feel like for the price, it shouldn’t be there at all. Maybe that’s me being too picky 😂 ultimately I think I would have gone with the PW even if the yellowing at the bottom wasn’t there. I didn’t like the screen door effect on the CS either. But I know some people really love the CS! It really just comes down to personal preference 🙂
@@bswindle71I ordered the Colorsoft after Christmas because I’d heard they’d solved the problem, but they apparently haven’t. I can’t imagine they won’t fix it though. Like you said, it seems like a quality control issue wherever they were initially made.
I'm primarily a reader. had an old 2013 kindle. Even after all this time, I still went with another kindle paperwhite. The colour technology just isn't there yet, I'm afraid.
Interesting! See, my iPad mini 7 gives dark mode wi/color highlight and I just assumed it would be included on colorsoft. I use that a lot reading in pitch black at night. It’s super easy on the eyes. Seeing how high the brightness needs to be to match the contrast of the bw worries me on battery life… and for that price? I need to wait on color. I already have the signature and basic 2024 and they last for weeks if not months on battery even reading it daily.
Oddly enough, I’ve found the Colorsoft’s duller display is easier on the eyes when I’m reading in bed at night. However, I enjoy reading graphic-heavy content, like comics, on my iPad mini. The zoom is snappier and the page-turn animation is cooler.
So I will be new to the kindle family. Is there a way to turn off that flashing when the page changes ? Watching you flip through the pages and that flash reload thing is working my nerves. Can it not turn smooth and evenly like my iPad ?
I could not read on the Colorsoft for too long or I would start to get a minor headache or feel slightly dizzy due to the graininess on the screen which seems to be a Kaleido thing, and not solely Amazon’s fault. I returned my Colorsoft and went for the Kindle Paperwhite in Jade and I love it, as well as the color.
I returned my Kindle SE because its screen was so yellow compared to my old Voyage and that was on max brightness. I don’t mean the odd yellow light at the bottom or other parts of the screen that some people mentioned. I mean that overall the new SE’s screen has a yellow hue that my Voyage or my husband’s Paperwhite from last release don’t have. Some people argue that the yellow screen makes it easier on the eye but you already have the warmth setting if you want your screen yellow, so I didn’t see the reason why on 0 warmth, max brightness the screen should stay yellow. Having read many reviews that raised the same issue when comparing their older kindles with the new ones, I think I’ll pass on the 2024 edition. It’s a personal preference but I don’t like the yellow screen. Will have to wait and see if things will be different in the next release.
Ah the Signature Edition. Yeah, good screen. Very sharp, good light. Very easy and for some reason... the library actually shows and they didn't take up 90% of the screen for ADVERTS. Oh right Signature Edition... Yeah. Good one. I don't trust the colorsoft yet, as in well teething issues right? Early models had some issues. That and I already have a Kobo with color :)
You didn’t mention anything about the graininess? Does your version have it? Is this something they have fixed or is it something inherent with kalido? I picked a colour soft up on Sunday and I thought it was yellow hue free but looking now maybe it has a slight tinge hard to tell.
The size is just too small for anything other than reading Amazon’s own novels. Comics , journals, PDFs it’s not practical size. Traditionally textbooks were never printed on bright white paper, because it strains the eyes.
I have both the Kindle Paperwhite 11th generation and the 12th generation. I don't know if you've noticed but between the two the 11th generation Paperwhite has a very white screen while the 12th generation tends to be a little darker and more reddish.
Thanks for being pretty much the only one online showing the color soft without the front light on

Could have shown a full color comic live from marvel. Vivid seems to work very well for that.
Puedes hacer un video comparando el pocketbook verse pro colour vs kindle colorsoft, es que estoy entre esos dos ereaders.
Outstanding review thank you.
Are people still having issues with the yellow tint at the bottom?
Yes. I ordered one right after Christmas, and mine had the yellowing issue at the bottom of the screen. It wasn't horrible, but it was noticeable.

1:50 That issue with Kaleido, is also an issue for Gallery 3 or Spectra?
No Dark Mode on the colorsoft for 390 Euros is just straight up wtf
There is a color mode for reading that inverts the color to be like the darkmode. It just doesn't show in the UI.
This is a great video! Very on point! 👍👍 Good job!

can you do a review about pdf reading on kindle?

As far as I understand, the grain is the same-ish on the gallery, so yeah
I did the same thing.
I don’t understand this obsession with white backgrounds… Paper isn’t super white. Books are grayish or even yellowish.
For reading, get a bw one, for comics get an ipad. 😀
Nah, the Kindle is much easier on the eyes.
@pouyanm Yes, of course, but for comics, one must get an ipad to have a joyful reading experience.

We have confirmed before we started coverage on our colorsoft, that it was devoid of any faults
Graininess, yellow band, or other issues
@@goodereaderoh really, so the grainy is a fault. I’ll look into sending back then.

Kaleido such a bad tech. So dark
Yeah we know, Kaleido need glowlight. You could've made this a 10 seconds video: "The black/white version is better, until you turn the glowlight on."
Go away then
Thank you

Turning on backlight losing the purpose of E-ink, I would rather read it on a Ipad or on an Android pad.
