    honestly unsure if your 'eventual borderline top-10' prediction was an overshoot; Draper and Wayne seem to have decided to dial the second serve return aggression up near a 10/10, and the power/accuracy Jack has delivered in those spots has been both staggering and timely. Draper's easily been a top-5 player thus far on grass, and there's no doubt his level from today vs. Navone (and the past two weeks overall) can trouble and potentially overcome Carlos, especially if Carlos's first serve accuracy wavers. Shapes up to be potentially the best pre-Wimbledon grass season match of any - hope you have a loud victory lap locked and loaded if Jack should go back to back 🍿

    Draper stood strong, De Minaur might be in the mix at Wimbledon for the power rankings. This is a great year for the rising stars. Post GOAT era is shaping up to be good tennis.

      Love the De Min but hell always be top tier HC Specialist to me..he's got the returnchops and tennis IQ to win Wimbledon but for he needs to serve spotless in the biggest moments...DFs vs Zvereb were critical at Roland Garros he really had his chances...but I'm not going to say for sure he's big time big time in the mix at Wimby..think grass is an overall weaker surface de minaur is such a wizard on hard courts

      I hate to be the Debbie Downer but the level of play (so far) is not close to the GOAT era, even comparing to top ten not just the GOATs but we’ll see how things go.

    • @turntech4776
      @turntech4776 4 месяца назад

      @@KarmaticEvolutionI also think the level of play isn’t as even across the surfaces anymore. Compared to younger djocovic, Nadal and even Federer, clay just doesn’t have a big player anymore. Alcaraz is NOT as good on clay as he is other surfaces and he managed to win. It’s pretty bad for clay when zverev is arguably second best on the surface considering it wasn’t that long ago where he was confidently outclassed on clay by a couple guys. Whereas most of our top 10 are huge servers with great backhands, hurkacz sinner zverev, rublev even, which favours them towards grass

    • @mireafelder8194
      @mireafelder8194 4 месяца назад

      @@KarmaticEvolution Well, the GOAT's (except Nadal) at 21 were not even close to Alcaraz' achievements at 21, and Sinner at almost 23 is holding up well too. I think tennis is in good hands after the GOAT era.

      @@turntech4776 Zverev was great on clay pre-injurie in case you don't remember the RG semi-final 2022 against Nadal. Alcaraz is barely 21 years old, was out half of clay season 2024 due to a forearm injury. It's unbelievable how he managed to win Roland Garros with almost zero match practice on clay at all.

    Draper must feel like a huge weight has been lifted off his shoulders.
    I’m excited about Raonic. It’s good to see veterans return and still be able to reach the highest heights.
    Berrettini has shown that he is still right up there. Top 15 at least
    Embarrassing what happened with Draper getting an electric motorcycle with the colours Berrettini was wearing. So BOSS promised to give Draper one in his colours… and for some reason Berrettini still gets the original bike.
    Finally, I’m so happy Alex keeps getting better. I think his processes are working very well.

    Can't get enough of these Gill! You always provide the insights and context I wish I had the time and ability to distill myself. Going to keep an eye out for Draper's backhand weaponry and Demon's steadily increasing serve effectiveness. Crazy he out-velocitied Medvedev (even though Meddys serve has dipped from its 2021 - 22 heights I think)

    Sad for Matteo 😔 but congrats to Jack Draper. He played a a heck of a game and deserved to win👍 On another note, Draper’s issues are beyond service and surface related. They are due to climate and very low tolerance to high temperatures. He often withdraws from tournaments due to heat exhaustion, even fainting right on the court once or twice. This will greatly limit his tournament options and ability to move up in the rankings.

    Great stuff Gill! On Tiafoe, it looked like he injured his right hip after slipping on the grass but it could have hurt his knee as well. Grass has to be the most dangerous surface imo. I love that you brought up the importance of consistent depth of shot being the most important quality of a players ground strokes. Djokovic, Sinner, and now de Minaur are players that kill you with depth. I have been a huge fan of Jonathan Stokke @stokketennis since he started his podcast but I think he and I both heard the importance of depth of shot from Craig O’Shannessy @coshannessy Check out Craig’s presentation: Craig O'Shannessy - 2016 Winter Convention at Memphis Racquet Club: ruclips.net/video/0OllSYaf4II/видео.htmlsi=EIaDVnGUoiXHXPm3 The entire presentation is great but jump to the 27:54 mark for his thoughts on shot depth. I personally use O’Shannessy’s theories when playing and teaching singles.

    dimitrov became a consistent monster ,but not a major contender
    de minaur is talented , but not ambitious , he is not a favorite at any big title
    draper should have a big career like alcaraz ,sinner but he will not , physical and mental problems
    sinner - alcaraz rivalry intensify more and more

      De Minaur lacks some traits, but ambition is certainly not one of them. He's clearly a very hard worker and believes he can be the best in the world, I think his main issue is that he doesn't really have any big weapons which usually mark the top top players. He's just a rung below that.
