for anyone who doubts his wrestling, these videos are only his wrestling for MMA. theres great videos of him wrestling with people in colorado state and olympic team members and you really see how freakishly good he got at wrestling.
@@edinsimic9867 it’s not about doubting his wrestling, it’s about the fact he never really wrestled until he got into MMA and became of the greatest to do it
He's just so good at timing that takedown when the other dude is thinking about striking, especially ducking under punches.... or literally while the other guy is striking he's taking them down. So it becomes a huge dilemma to try to land shots on him knowing that that's what he wants so he can get to your leg/hips. Master of timing
I understand people may think Khabib or Charles has the best grappling in ufc history I’d argue it’s still GSP the amount of elite wrestlers he manhandled is honestly terrifying but it’s not just that it’s the fact he had no background in grappling he was a karate guy the level of the grapplers he destroyed is amazing
he has outwrestled a number of accomplished collegiate wrestlers, even more than khabib has.. i think gsp is the best mma takedown artist ever, if we base it on the number of collegiate wrestlers a fighter has outwrestled..
I hate when people act like you cant know takedowns or defense just because you didn't do scholastic wrestling, its idiotic. This man proved that you can learn later on and dominate the people that actually practiced it.
@@user-xg6sx5ev9u Bro, I'm talking about Grapplers in MMA, Khabib and Charles are better than Gsp on the ground in Grappling and not in MMA as a whole that GSP was clearly better, Charles is the greatest finisher in ufc history and Khabib finished his opponents with a lot of pressure control and Ground and Pound agressive

lmao, most of them in this video look like they never practiced takedown defense once in their life. These are very early days of MMA, when people were still figuring out what to do.
Listening to the bias Joe Rogan commentary against GSP, particularly with Hughes and BJ Penn (but also with the likes of Parisyan), makes you realise just how exceptional GSP was, despite not having grown up a wrestler.
Never fails to make me smile when Joe reluctantly had to finish the sentence he was gagging to repeat over and over as GSP ragdolled BJ almost at will: 'BJ's got such impressive takedown defence, watch what he-' *GSP launches BJ onto the ground* 'does now that he's back up'.
Not in any way shape or form. Hughes was bigger, Hendricks was bigger, Alves was bigger, Koscheck was bigger, Condit taller, Diaz taller, it just didn't matter.
Can someone explain how GSP is able to shoot without dropping one knee to the ground upon entry, and somehow still managing the takedown. Is it his brute strength, opponents balance, and distance management that helps him with getting the take down ?
It had a lot to do with establishing his ranged tools, in particular the jab. His level change became increasingly difficult to read as fights went on. He also was a beast of an athlete so his reactive double was an ace in the hole.
he said his karate background helped him a lot with his timing and distance management. also hes setting it up with strikes, so when his opponent expects a strike and covers up, gsp goes level changes and goes for td.
He has amazing timing and shot a lot of takedowns when his opponents were standing square. Which eliminates the need for a really good shot He also was able to reshoot if his opponents stopped his first attempt a great example of this is at 4:31 where he shoots on bj, bj stops it he frames on bjs head and picks up a single
"Honey, my mom asked me today, 'Sweetheart, what is it about those fights that gets you going?' And I'm like, 'Mom, I'm not even sure what I'm looking at, but that body, oh my goodness, it's just... wow. And then I saw those lines, that power force on that canvas, and I was like, 'Girl, this is art.'"
The single greatest wrestler in the UFC's history. Compare the amount of D1 and All Americans or BJJ masters (Penn) he dominated or cancelled out compared to someone like Khabib, who at best, had RDA (world champion grappler) and Gaethje (D1).
Excellent video displaying GSP's effective development of the double-leg takedown. Low double-leg takedowns are not as effective as high double-leg takedowns. Low double-leg takedowns, whenever you drop a knee, need more technical skills to turn the corner while changing levels and low double-leg takedowns are easier to counter and take more energy. Why drop to a knee when you come back up on your feet 🤦. This video proves high double-leg takedowns are more effective, especially when teaching fundamentals and new people in the sport.
This is pretty much all he has,a double leg and lay n pray. People dare call floyd boring but floyd has a higher finish percentage. Gsp is 85% lay n pray.
Yes but with good timing and technique it won‘t happen. Thats like saying o floyd threw a lot of jabs from a low guard he exposes himself to overhand right hands.
Great Fighters rarely make great trainers but in this case Mike lost it long ago and represents a radically different physique so I'm thinking more publicity stunt... That said I'm a huge Mike Tyson fan because I'm a short heavyweight

so many single legs and double legs, with the occasional tackle. nothing fancy, he sticks to the tried and true fundamentals.
