Thanks Sue for another fabulous visit to this amazing cemetery. I’ve always loved Rodin’s The Thinker. Some of the sculptures and bronxes are stunning. The woman at the Rosetta family looks pregnant the way she’s standing. Gosh, I’d have loved to go there but it’s out of the question now sadly.
Some of the statues could easily be worth thousands and thousands. It is amazing what money some families put into their final resting places. Beautiful to see but mind boggling.
The experience must be overwhelming. I can feel the sadness on so many, let alone if I were seeing it face to face. The gothic spiral churches in the background are surreal ❤
Oh the church is absolutely stunning, unfortunately when we arrived there was a funeral, when we finished our video, we walked over to the church and it was closed
Good Morning, morning glory, and how are you today? 🌞 Rodin’s “The Thinker” and other lovely statuary. Sweet. I used to have a nice table top piece of Rodin’s “The Kiss”. One of my favs of his. That one of the young soldier boy killed so young in battle is very touching. Can’t see such emotional grave pieces enough. They are all so stunning. These are to soothe those left behind, & to pay homage from one loved one to another. This was lovely. You do great camera-work, Sue. Thank you again. 💚💚☘️🍀
Merci à vous, thanks from Belgium.
Hello Serenity Sue, another awesome video. Loved all the statues in this cemetery. I always loved the European mindset share the living with the dead. Please keep these awesome videos coming. Cheers Jean Crosby Nashville TN USA
The statuary there is like going through a museum! Thank you for showing us the incredible sights from the most beautiful cemeteries in all of Belgium!!! The original bronze Thinker by Rodin!!! Stunning!
Happened on your channel today. I love old cemeteries but I've never seen one like this. Firstly, the graves are massive and make a statement. I can't even imagine the costs. I've never seen statues of this magnitude anywhere. They are unique and absolutely awe inspiring. The mausoleums were on another level. The cemetery was well cared for, as one could see, but there were those with damage which I guess is the responsibility of the family. Overall, what a remembrance of their family members. Thank you for sharing!
You're very welcome, I'm from Ireland, so we only have a few cemeteries like this but the rest are as old as the 12th century and before. We have lots of old abandoned churches, ruins, abbeys and graveyards. So to see this place in Brussels literally blew me away
Sue, your tours consistently reveal the stunning beauty of this extraordinary cemetery. The awe-inspiring sights here never fail to captivate. Warm regards from Adelaide, Australia. 🙋♂
The statues were so incredibly lifelike- wow! The folds of fabric, the details of shoes and hair. Frankly, I thought the statues by the graves were more impressive than The Thinker. As someone said, the cemetery is almost a museum. Enjoyed the tour!
Absolutely fantastic place.. I love the statues over and on the graves . The soldier on the grave is sad but it's also life unfortunately. Fantastic video Sue
I agree with everyone. The statues are gorgeous! They remind me of the ones I discovered at Bonaventure cemetary in Savannah Georgia. So many and amazing how they look so life like sometimes! This is a beautiful resting place ♥️
The statues really tug at your heart! I would give everything I have to have a statue of my son on his grave. He died at 30 from an aneurysm, not in a war but the pain is the same.
That's so young, your heart must be broken, even now. Time heals, they say, but I never think that's true, I think you learn to live with it. A little part of you remains broken, mind yourself, and may your son rest in peace 🙏
These statues are absolutely amazing.......thank you for sharing your trip! You bring those passed back to life, even if for a moment they are remembered!❤
Wow the statues are amazing, I can’t imagine the cost of those back in the day,so just imagine how much they would cost to make today. Thankyou for the upload 🙏🏼
Hi Sue, Thank You for showing us all these Gorgeous monuments!! I've seen "The Thinker" in books and magazine's, but never saw this Monument in a Cemetery. I am just thinking how you would even cast these bronze statues. Definitely like a Museum, like many posters before me mentioned. God Bless You Sue!!! 🦆
This is the most beautiful cemetery! The monuments and statues are extraordinary! Absolutely breathtaking! Thank you for allowing us to Amble along with you!
I too would like to thank you for taking us in the absolutely spectacular cemetery……truly the best I’ve ever seen, and I’m nearly eighty. Blessings from Queensland Australia 🙏❤️🇦🇺🇦🇺
That is an amazing graveyard the statues were beautiful especially the one with the young lad standing over the little girl also the young soldier was so sad... beautiful lush green area for peace and serenity so once again enjoyed your video so from Aussie pete stay safe
Sue, I said the same to my grandmother. I could not watch my son go off to war. She had three sons who served. She said, “They were serving our county”. What a sacrifice or parents to make. They all three survived but, with PTSD and an uncle who crashed his car three weeks after coming home and died. War is a sin. Horrible.
Ahh bless them all, I don't think I'd have the strenght to watch my sons leave for war, the after effects were like they were living in the war for life, think of all the veterans who are homless after serving their country. That makes me so mad too.
Another fantastically interesting video Sue, the workmanship that went into those statues is awesome and breathtaking. Thank you and your nails looked very nice 💅🏼💅🏼👍🏼
Wonderful! Just seeing the life-size statuary, especially the one from 1914 lying on the stretcher atop the tomb makes me think that wouldn't it be marvelous if we all could have something like those full-length reclining statues "asleep in death," like those which adorn the sarcophagi of some of the long-past Royalty!
You cannot help but admire the detail in the statues and feeling the desolation of them.Beautiful cemetery Sue.Thanyou.Its certainly not roasting back at home 🏠 x
Awesome cemetery! All the statues, mausoleums, and other monuments, just awesome! For myself, the one monument that struck home, was that of the young soldier who died in 1914. Awesome video, thank you very much for sharing this with us Sue. Have a great day 😊
@SerenitySueGraveyards I think it wonderful, that Max's parents are buried with him. This video is truly one of your best Sue. But please be careful if you are out by yourself, or was GV close by.
I think GV was in the underground crypt at this stage, I didn't feel unsafe here or anywhere in Belgium to be honest. Yet anyone we talked to warned us of pickpockets and homless
Watching this is almost like make-believe! It is hard to fathom places like this really exist above and below ground. I have never seen anything remotely close to this in the states. I think Cathal said it has been open since the 13th century! This in itself is hard to comprehend. Kudos to both you and Cathal, Sue. What an excellent job! I am speechless. ♥️☘️
