New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon apologised and promised reforms on July 24, 2024, after a public inquiry found some 200,000 children, young people and vulnerable adults were abused in state and religious care over the last 70 years. Nearly one in three children and vulnerable adults in care from 1950 to 2019 experienced some form of abuse, the report said. The finding could leave the government facing billions of dollars in fresh compensation claims.

The abuse of indigenous children all over the world is horrific. Too many young people were taken from their homes, abused by the Catholic church and even unalived. They were forbidden to speak their mother tongue, so many babies and young children in Canada were found buried in unmarked graves. I hate hearing anyone praising Sky Daddy; it's so messed up and the damage done to the ones lucky enough to escape will live with them forever. It's nice when you hear a government acknowledging the abuse but it never should have happened in the first place.
For anyone doubting this, there are many documentaries on RUclips about the indigenous residential schools and the unmarked graves found in Canada. I'm sure there are more about other schools but as I live un Canada, they were the ones I watched in horror. Al-Jazeera did a great documentary if I'm not mistaken.

Oh, and worse. In Canada many indigenous youth including babies were found in unmarked graves. The Catholic church liked to turn a blind eye. There are many great documentaries on RUclips about this. Al-Jazeera did a great documentary about this if I remember correctly.

It most certainly does have everything to do with the church; they're well known for their abuse of indigenous people in many parts of the world. I suggest you do some research before you proclaim that it has nothing to do with religion. In Canada for instance, many indigenous youngsters were taken from their homes by the Catholic church, abused repeatedly, unalived, and were forbidden to speak their mother tongue. There are many documentaries on RUclips about this and I suggest you watch a few.
