marilyn specifically said she wanted the dress to be something just for herself, it’s highly disrespectful to go against the wishes of the deceased.
100% agree
Holy shit that makes it a whole different story that is extremely disrespectful
When did she say
@@catvalentine4163 in 1962, when she found out she would be performing her song for jfk, she called her designer and told him “I want you to design a truly historical dress, a dazzling dress that's one of a kind.” and specifically, a dress that “only marilyn monroe could wear.” this dress was made specifically for her measurements and so precise that she had to be sewn into it, it represents a very important moment in women’s history. it’s very special and not something to be worn by someone who it wasn’t made for, and definitely not for something like the gala. even disregarding the historical significance of the dress and possible damages it may have suffered, she explicitly said that the dress would be something only she can wear, just for her. i’m sorry i don’t know the dates of the call, but i just know it was in 1962 before jfk’s birthday.
Agree I feel like this was beyond disrespectful and that she should not have done that
The fact that Kim didn't care about damaging Monroe's dress says a lot more about Kim
The fact that the gallery of museum this piece was, rent the dress for her, says more..
She didn’t damage it
@@mae7586 she did.
@@mae7586 the zipper was ruined, The fabric was torn, many of the gems have fallen out, and sweat and makeup has been mixed into the dress. While some things can be fixed, enough of the damage is irreversible.
@@mae7586 she did, there’s photo proof of the back having being ripped, beads have fallen off and the dress was specifically made for Monroe and Monroe only, Kim disregarded Monroe’s wishes of the dress only to ever be worn by her and only her
The reality of this situation is that Marilyn had this dress created specifically for her, and actually asked that when she died, no one else was to wear the dress. It was her dress. She wanted it to be special and one of a kind, never to be worn by anyone else. It’s genuinely disgusting that Kim Kardashian of all people defiled the wishes of Marilyn, and I wish people cared a little bit more.
Where does it say that she said this
I think way too many people blame Kim Kardashian for this. I don't know where you got this information on Marilyn's wishes but to my understanding, it's a specific information spread across people in the fashion or history field, rather than common general knowledge. So I don't think Kim would have known prior to asking for the authorization to wear this dress : it was someone's job to tell her and they didn't do it. Same goes for the damages that happened, someone could have told her no and explained that this could happen.
Even if the Kardashians insisted, I understand they would be threatening seeing how powerful they must be with all their money.. But the press of Kim K trying to push for this to a conservator just trying to protect an artefact would have made such an obvious good guy and bad guy that this would have been a ridiculous argument to have..
To me this is on Ripley's, they simply didn't do their job and what they owed this dress.
It’s honestly just frustrating that it was Kim K of all people. Of course she also physically ruined the dress. To compare yourself to someone so historically appreciated, is a bold move.

Also when u search Marilyn Monroes dress YOU SEE KIM WEARING IT NOT MARILYN
"Shows her respect for fashion history"
Yeah. By destroying an amazing peice of fashion history
Just smh 🤦♀️🤦♀️
when u realize that kim also made a replica of that dress and could've just worn it instead, but no 🙂
Ikr, instead she had tu ruin the real dress
She wanted to feel special! 😃
The thing is, she wore both. She was changed into the replica right after the walk, which is almost even more insulting because the dress is almost identical besides the fact that the replica actually fit her and wasn't destroyed by her different body type to the original dress's owner.
Like even if she wanted the drama, she could've have taken the dress, store it and let people believe she used it, then return it in perfect conditions...
@@tetraganii oh my god 😦 i can't

she did have a replica that she wore once off the red carpet, which makes this even more ridiculous
@@Outandalout I didn’t know that but yes, I 100% agree with you
She did wear a replica at the after party but the whole point was to wear ,,the dress" that Marylin Monroe wore(srry if i spelled anything wrong)
@@ioanaburcin7786 I get where you’re coming from, but it begs the question why she didn’t just remain wearing the replica of the dress the whole time? She has ruined a piece of history now. She should’ve used this as a chance to explain to people why preserving historical dresses is so important. That’s what makes it so infuriating, Marilyn Monroe wanted to be the first and last person to wear this dress, but unfortunately this wasn’t the case.
They do buy think abt Narcistic Kim, she need to ne nr 1 eberywhere so yes she took the original one to just show off and what would happen to that dress later on she dont care.....
What breaks my heart the most is the fact that Marilyn Monroe has been used and abused all throughout her career. The fact that even in her death, some form of her is still being exploited for a quick clout with the bare minimum of not even fitting the theme of the event is just devastating.
Kim Kardashian completely lied when she said she is a fan of Marilyn Monroe because a genuine fan wouldn't do this to her memory.
Agreed x
K.K has even get locks up Marilyn's hair..But I wholeheartedly agree with you, I can't have said it better... My son's was doing a project on Norma Jean, Before the name change and been famous, And crap about Kim still pop up.
Another sad thing is that when you look up "Marilyn Monroe dress" images of Kim show up 🙁
Ugh i might gonna go vomit-🤢
Ripley put that stupid shawl and a picture of Kim and the story beside the dress. You can bet she paid them off to do so
What it boils down to, though, she rented a dress from Ripley's Believe It or Not 😂
Ripley's shouldn't even have that dress
I sincerely hope the Met Gala doesn't invite that classless clan next year. They took over the event
Ugh ugh ugh that's disgusting ☹️
Yeahhh no. Just googled it and it immediately showed me Marilyn with her iconic white dress blow up moment
The designer has come out saying he wasn't happy about her wearing a dress that Marilyn was stitched into

She wore it in competition of Marilyn’s cultural icon status , the level she will never achieve.
literally. She wore it for the sense of superiority she got then switched out… what a jerk
PERIOD!
The dress was literally sewn onto Marilyn. That’s how custom it was. It was never meant to be reworn by another body.
In some sick way, I feel like kim wore the dress to show that she’s just as significant as Marilyn Monroe when she’s not. Further, it also did not fit the theme of the gilded age at all so all in all it was just a waste of a historical piece.
You took the words out of my mouth. I was thinking this as the video played lol
Bet we see more ridiculous stunts in the next few years as the family becomes less relevant and their aesthetic falls out of fashion
Marilyn when alive was iconic, but not to the level she is today. A lot of our perception of her is thanks to the way her image was used after her death. Because of that, i do believe you can make a comparison between the two as icons.
But the idea of doing the same things that Marilyn did, just to be compared, will always brand kim as the bad copy of a true icon.
totally agree. at least for the moment, every time someone mentions Marylin, Kim will be apart of that convo too 🤷🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
@@justhadijat do you think because of the new Marilyn docu series on Netflix? Kim will come up especially if searched on google …
If she cared about “historical fashion” she would’ve stuck to the theme.
also she ended up tearing it in some places due to it not fitting. so she damaged historical fashion as well.
the moment kim wear that iconic dress you can really see that the value of that dress has gone
Kim could’ve either worn the replica the entire time or use her “creative imagination” to create an iconic piece that is entirely her own instead of using someone else’s especially damaging something historically famous.
It was hand tailored to Monroe’s body. It had to be stretched to fit Kim. If she really was that much of a fan of her, she would have understood that she shouldn’t have worn it. I’m a big Marylin Monroe fan, and I would never take any chance of ruining something so iconic just so I could wear it. I don’t really understand why she couldn’t have just worn the replica gown the whole time.
Ya if she has sooo much money she should tell them to make her a similar dress like gosh.
Perfectly said
she lost 9 pound in like one week, and trying to fit in the dress. the zipper at back actually is not open, so she damage nothing but lazy people’s emotion
This!^^
@@deeparaichandani9969 i saw some people saying she only wore it for a small amount of time , and then changed to a replica , she should’ve just worn the replica the entire time.
so many things wrong with this:
1. this is basically a historical artifact. it’s very clear that this was tailored “specifically” for marilyn in every single ways. by kim “trying” to fit into, meant that this is NOT for her AND she could ruin the fabric that can be so fragile due to the time period and length of it by trying to fit into the damn thing. it’s just disrespectful all in all
2. by attempting to fit into this dress, she further exacerbates the issues of eating disorders and body images by revealing her strict diet and etc etc on what she did to fit into it. as if the kardashians hasn’t done enough to set up unrealistic and toxic beauty standards, this just makes it worse.
3. she did all this and the dress wasn’t even on theme with the gilded age. like--
i fully agree
its neither gold as in the word guilded nor relevant to the guilded age..
its just as if she tookthe actual thing thinking shes making a statement..when in reality shes just ruining something that better off in a museum

The 20-year-old went platinum blonde and sported a beige-coloured corset and white skirt by Louis Vuitton. She paired it with a dazzling diamond tiara and choker by Cartier Jewel, the brand's latest ambassador. However, she faced harsh criticism for reportedly wearing Maharaja of Patiala's diamond choker to the gala.
I cant see how it is "appreciation" when she literally damaged the dress🤦🏻♀️
There's a HUGE difference between wearing vintage and wearing a literal piece of irreplaceable history. Most mid century vintage pieces are fine to be worn and should be worn and appreciated. However certain couture pieces, one of a kind pieces and pieces with historical provenance should be preserved for future generations to admire and learn from.
ok my opinion:
She should have paid for a replica instead of taking it from the music. Or either actually follow the theme of the met gala.
She had a replica and changed into it immediately after the red carpet

Who is more *sophisticated* who came first?
Marilyn wore it first and she is an icon, She literally had a big influence both in fashion and in television and Kim is literally copying her lol that's why she's so eager to fit into the dress. Yeah it is "just" a dress but It became historic because of *Marilyn* . @@itstinyty she was a icon very influential and the fact she was asexual and sapphoromantic makes me doubt all of that.

I have more of a issue that she forces herself into a dress that did not fit her, and in the process ruined it. And it does not help at all that she also made a replica that she wore right afterwards, so she basically just damaged the dress for publicity and it is working since everyone is talking about it
So basically the dress was bought by a "museum" that allowed her to wear that dress. If she wanted to show her appreciation for fashion history, she should NOT have worn the dress. Garments are extremely fragile and every single time you wear clothes, they get ruined further. Her wearing that iconic dress that is nothing less than the most expensive dress ever damaged that dress beyond repair. And you wanna know the fun part? IT WASN'T EVEN OF FUCKING THEME!! A simple Google search will reveal that the gilded age was roughly 1870s-1900s. And I'm not good at math but I don't think that 1962 is in that time period. All her life Marilyn was treated as an object, especially a s*xual one. 😞 No one ever really saw her as a fellow human, and she never really had something to call her own until this dress was made. I think once it goes on display at a museum it should not be taken out, unless it is worn by the child or grandchild of the person the piece was made for/worn by (example: Princess Beatrice wearing one of her grandmothers dresses as her wedding dress). But if a garment is just a vintage piece from a designers archives/previous collection and was not made specifically for a specific person/historic event it is fine.

If she actually cared about fashion, she would have gotten a replica of the dress instead of ruining it by wearing the original dress when it doesn’t even fit her
The disrespect. Marilyn should have been the last person to wear that dress. It was worn in a pretty big historical moment and should not be worn fifty years later by anyone, let alone a kardashian.
And the fact that they aren't even related also annoys me

I honestly think it's the museum's fault for giving a historical dress to someone to fucking wear. It's all torn, stinky and damaged now ;-;
It belongs in a museum, it was made for Marilyn Monroe; no one else is supposed to wear it.
I feel like having a dress made that took inspiration from Marilyn’s original dress would have been a better show of respect and admiration than just trying to adamantly fit into a dress that was tailor-made for someone iconic and actually important

Besides, they could've made a gown matching her skin tone and that fits her!!!
Ngl her getting her own dress, made in the same way as Marilyn's to fit her body and skin colour, would've been such a good way to show your appreciation. If it fit the theme it would've been a great idea. Not like this tho.
Yeah no she was not appreciating or paying any homage to the iconic Marilyn or the historic fashion industry, not when she knew that the dress didn't fit her, had she really cared and had respect she would have said, "no let's not force it on me, I would hate to damage it" but noooo not Kim this is how much respect she has. But honestly I can't be mad at her, it's more dissapointing that the company even allowed/permitted for that dress to be worn by anyone.

While I sometimes find ridiculius that people treasure clothes so much and not want them worn, this is different
MM literally said she wanted be the only to wear it.
And since it was fitted, I can imagine the pain this dress went through because of being stretched to fit and stuff.
If she really was such a history fan, knowing that she basically ruins a dress and wears it even though the og owner didn't want to, really shows her uhm...appreciation....for fashion history
I think this was disrespectful and selfish for kim to do idk why she is even famous the reson is because her dad was in the O.J Simpson trial and that’s what got her famous. I honestly hope this dress gets put back in the museum
shut up.
go live in north korea.
People can wear whatever they want.
its not even owned by a actual museum and probably wont
No point in it being in a Museum anymore. The heffer stretched it out, most likely broke the zipper, more than likely stained it with whatever make up and perfume she wore. They'd have to repair the dress, and at that point it would no longer be the same dress that MM wore.
@@ashleypetrini4627 Ok calm down it is a dress there are many dresses in the world and you DON'T have to put down others it looks gross
@@iamaghosthi682 idfc, there is NO other dress like the one Kim uined. It was fitted specifically for Marilyn, to fit MARILYN'S body. It was made to match MARILYN'S skin tone. It was part of a HISTORICAL event that involved MARILYN. Marilyn SPECIFICALLY said she DIDN'T want ANYONE else to wear it. Kim disrespected Marilyn and Marilyn's wish. I mean Kim had a replica she wore AFTER ruining the dress (a.k.a. the red carpet). She could have EASILY worn the replica the whole time instead of breaking the zipper on the dress and stretching out MARILYN'S dress. That, again, she stated that NO ONE was to wear HER dress.
This particular dress should definitely be in a museum
At least now people will stop insisting that Monroe was "a plus-sized woman."
If Kim had had a copy made I wouldn’t have cared. But not only could Kim risk stretching it out since they aren’t the same size, Marilyn SPECIFICALLY said she didn’t want anyone else to wear this dress
They gifted Kim k Monroe's hair .. there's a whole series of bad ethics surrounding this
...that's creepy, why tf would you want a dead person's hair you don't even know, celebrity or not that's just creepy
@@lurkinlikeaboss If you think that's creepy you can look up Richard Poncher that asked to be buried face down over Marilyn Monroe's crypt. What they are doing is deeply disrespectful.
@@tinaandro1178oh man that's awful wtf is wrong with people, can't they just let the dead rest in peace
Because of her huge dumper she has now officially damaged this iconic dress which was made specifically for the legendary Marilyn Monroe.
Personally i don't think marylin would have wanted someone like kim to wear her dress
It looked real bad on Kim.
While it was stunning on Marilyn ❤️ it should be preserved in a museum
If she really appreciated historic fashion she wouldn't wear and damage it when it just doesn't fit
Historic fashion Should not be Not reworn
Perhaps remade to resemble the original, tho
If she respected historical fashion, or Marilyn, she would not have worn it. Kim's entitlement knows no bounds 🙄
And it didn't even look good on her! What a shame pieces like this aren't respected for the art they are.
They even gave her MM hair as a ‘ gift ’, like let the damn woman be at peace
Apparently no imagination and this particular dress was Marilyn's only.
I feel like her wearing the dress says that she thinks she’s important enough and deserves to wear it Imo
I wanna know who even allowed her to get the dress out of the museum and let alone try it on and actually wear it!? Not to mention that she damaged the back of the dress to try and fit her she also has the dress in terrible condition with the gems falling off and gone the dress literally was not made for anybody else but Marilyn Monroe.
The reason it was so iconic on Monroe was because it was made just for her, the color, the fit, but on Kim it doesn't have the same effect and even ignoring all that, it didn't fit theme I could make a reach and say by guilded she thought they mean money, glamour and Hollywood stars, but even if that was the case it would have been so predictable, not even taking into consideration that that wasn't even her explanation, anyway personally I don't care that people wear archived pieces, it's just how they do it that bugs me, people should put more thought into what they wear not just showing up in underwhelming garments just to get the job done
If she really appreciates the piece, she could’ve paid tribute by getting a similar one made to fit her body and skin tone and the Internet would’ve actually appreciated her for coming up with an idea but wearing the very fragile, precious original one, is just a big no-no.
The fact that Marilyn specifically asked that no one else but her where is that dress wow Kim for real you got a rune everything bro 🙄
The fact that many celebrities also wear historic/vintage clothing should be appalling. Older clothes that has great historical value are going to degrade, so why wear that when a replica or an ode to that style could be made?
Worn by "the late Marilyn Monroe" as she was introduced that fateful night. I remember having a premonition about the introduction using the word "late" which means 'dead'. I was 15.
This is more special than other iconic garments and should never have been loaned to anyone let alone someone whose behind can't fit into it.
Put it in a museum and leave it there.
Kim - if you were a true fan of MM, then you would never wear this dress. Mm asked that this dress not to be worn. You sound like Amber when you said the dress fits. The dress did NOT fit. You stretched it and the back did not zip up.
I would never wear the dress even if I was paid to do so. And I am closer to Marilyn's size
Considering she caused damage to the dress? I think it’s super disrespectful
No I do not think that Kim should have worn that dress. And I'm disappointed at Ripley's for even lending it out
